Chapter 11
Colour Fly's breath fogged in the cold morning air, evaporating into thin mist to link with the lines of grey already present on Attalon. She'd woken early in Sabine's arms and unable to drift back into slumber, she got up and went to watch the sunrise. A soft thudding of talons caught the dragon's attention, making her look round to see Whiplash approaching her.
"Hey honey" Colour Fly nuzzled Whiplash's nose when he reached her.
A smile graced the dragon's lips as he pressed his forehead against his girlfriend's.
"What are you doing out here so early? You'll catch a chill" Whiplash said, seating himself beside his beloved.
"I've got feathers Whiplash, I'm fine" Colour Fly draped her wing around Whiplash as she said this.
"You, on the other hand, don't have a single feather on your body. You should be worried about you're own temperature. I know you hate the cold."
Whiplash smiled a little and nuzzled Colour Fly's neck before looking back out to Attalon's vast plains.
"You can't keep avoiding it, you know" Colour Fly spoke.
"Huh?" Whiplash turned to his girlfriend in confusion.
Colour Fly looked at Whiplash, expression sympathetic, yet serious.
"You may not like the prospect, but you know your Bonding Sickness is getting worse. You need to consult Ezra and fix your connection, you can't hide your emotions forever Whip."
The dragon's eyes moved away from Colour Fly and he dropped his head onto his crossed paws.
"Colour Fly, please, you know I don't like talking about this."
"But it's serious, your mark's infected."
"What?"
Whiplash lifted his head and stared down at the spiral burned into his shoulder. A pale red rash was starting to stretch out from the mark.
"I-I didn't even notice it" he said.
"It wasn't there last night love, you need to-" Colour Fly began.
"I know I know" Whiplash sighed.
"I'll talk to em, can't promise on how it'll go though."
"As long as you speak to Ezra, I'm satisfied" Colour Fly hummed.
Silence fell between them for a few moments before the male dragon shook his head sideways a few times.
"Well, I'm going for my morning laps" Whiplash stood and stretched.
"You gonna come?"
"Ha, and participate in what you call 'training warm ups'? I'll pass thanks. Be back soon though okay?" Colour Fly said.
"I will" Whiplash promised, softly kissing Colour Fly's forehead.
He ran down the ramp amd lifted his wings, kicking off the ramp into the sky. Colour Fly watched him go, a fond smile on her face.
"That's the calmest I've ever seen Whiplash."
Colour Fly jumped and looked round to see Hurricane moving down the ramp towards her.
"Son of Mortis, Hurricane, don't creep up on me like that" Colour Fly glared, but Hurricane knew she wasn't really mad.
"Please accept my most humble apologies" he grinned.
"Oh hush and just sit down would you?" Colour Fly rolled her eyes.
Hurricane chuckled and stretched out beside the female Fire Horn dragon, resting his head on his paws like his brother had done.
"Any particular reason why you're up so early?" Colour Fly hummed, lying down as well.
"I needed to talk to you" Hurricane replied, smile fading into a frown.
Colour Fly's head cocked to the side while her tail flicked in interest.
"It's Whiplash, isn't it?" She said.
Hurricane lifted his head and gazed at Colour Fly in suprise.
"How did you know?"
"I may not have any siblings Hurricane, but I know what they're supposed to act like and do. Rough house, exchange banter and be there for each other. It's like your connection to Whiplash has been fractured."
"Is it that obvious?"
"In its own way, yes. It's been over six months Hurricane, you two should be okay now that you're back with the rebels shouldn't you?" Colour Fly asked.
"It's not that easy Colour Fly" Hurricane sighed.
"Ezra and Whiplash need to be reunited, and Whiplash needs to snap from his...well, this, soon or he'll have an emotional break down. He's done it twice and it was not pretty."
"I know, Moonshine told me about it" Colour Fly then sighed.
"Why has he become this way? He used to be so sweet, now he's..."
"A replica of Vader except breathes quieter?"
Colour Fly clamped the back of her paw over her mouth to stifle her giggles.
"Yeah" she said once she'd calmed down.
"That's one way of putting it."
"I don't know how to sort it out" Hurricane sighed.
"This has never happened to me and Fawn before."
Colour Fly rumbled sadly, putting a paw on the dragon's shoulder.
"He'll come around, he has to" she said.
"Yeah I know" Hurricane sighed then his eyes widened in realisation.
"Oh son of a Mortis God! I just rememebered! Fawn wanted to try and bond with the Krykna spiders! She'll die if I'm not there!"
The Shadow Wing jumped to his feet and ran down the ramp, flapping his wings to become airborne.
"See ya Colour Fly! Thanks for the talk!" He yelled over his shoulder.
"If Fawn's dead, bring back her armour! Sabine wanted to repaint it!" Colour Fly called after him.
"Ha ha! Very funny! I'll see you later!"
Colour Fly laughed to herself as Hurricane's form became smaller in the distance. A thin line of sunlight broke out inbetween the horizon and sky, a golden glow stretching out over the vast plains.
"It's a start" Colour Fly murmured to herself, a smile on her face.
