Chapter 10

It was strange sleeping without the comforting weight of a dragon, Ezra knew that from the past. But knowing the dragon was on the Ghost but not with him was stranger. He lay on his bed, gazing at the place where Whiplash was supposed to be, but wasn't. It was weird. Unnatural if you will. Ezra sighed to himself and rolled over, facing the wall and listened to the snores from Zeb and Bludgeon below him. He didn't understand it. He had a stronger bond with Whiplash than Zeb had with Bludgeon. Why wasn't his dragon with him? He missed his little friend dearly and wanted him more than ever.
Of course he was happy that he and Fawn were okay again. That was a massive burden off his shoulders but there was still Whiplash to deal with.
Ezra found himself gazing at the turquoise Dragon Holocron Fawn had given him. He slowly picked it up and turned it over in his hands. He had to admit, he favoured this one more than Fawn's. Mainly because it reminded him of Kanan's Jedi Holocron instead of the Sith one that had almost torn him apart. He ran his thumb around the glass and sat up. Crossing his legs, Ezra placed the Dragon Holocron on the bunk and focused on his fragile bond he had with Whiplash. If he could just get the box to move, even a little, he'd know his connection to his friend wasn't completely gone. Closing his eyes, Ezra clasped his hands together and rested his forehead on them. He could hear the Holcron, it was calling him, softly, but it was talking to him. Ezra dove deeper into the bond, eyebrows scrunching down in focus.

'Heal the past, earn back what you've lost, trust in the bond of the Dragon and Rider.'

Suddenly, a sharp pain slashed through Ezra's chest making him yelp and jump away from the Dragon Holocron. He panted, clutching his heart that was beating faster than normal. He gazed at the Dragon Holocron in both fear and amazment. It had spoke to him, it had really spoken to him. The pain though, he knew what it was.

Bonding Sickness.

It was getting worse. Ezra had been experiencing sudden pains throughout his body and twisting feelings in his gut. It felt like someone was trying to pull him inside out. It was almost unbearable. Ezra had to fix his bond soon.

Whiplash lay on the meditation chair in Fawn's room. He couldn't sleep. Everyone else had dropped off easily but not him. He had too much to think of, too much to worry about. He was back in the Ghost with his friends, a place to call home. If that was true, why did he feel so out of place? It was like he didn't belong in the Ghost anymore. He rolled over so he was facing the bunk bed where Fawn and the dragons were sleeping. He sighed and looked at the floor, tail flicking slightly as he thought about anything relaxing to help him drop off.
A sudden agony ripped through him making him snarl in surprise and pain. Hurricane's head shot up from beside Fawn.

"Whiplash? You okay?" He asked.

The dragon placed a paw over his chest, wide eyed and breathing heavily. The pain had gone as quickly as it had come. Whiplash shook his head, regaining his composure.

"I'm okay" he replied.

"I think."

Hurricane cocked his head to the side in concern, noticing how his brother's sides rose and fell heavily.

"Nightmares?" He asked.

"No, didn't even get the chance to have them" Whiplash replied, curling himself up tightly.

Hurricane purred in thought before exhaling.

"Whiplash, it's okay to speak your mind you know."

"I don't need to speak my mind" Whiplash replied firmly.

Hurricane gazed at Whiplash and sighed to himself. His little brother had become so isolated since they'd left the rebellion. He assumed Whiplash would be fine after they returned but the dragon seemed even more to himself then ever.

"Whiplash?" He began tentatively.

"Go to sleep Hurricane" Whiplash said.

"Is this about Ezra?"

Whiplash instantly uncurled, looking at Hurricane with angry and daring eyes.

"Mind running that by me again?" He growled.

Hurricane hesitated. Whiplash had never fought him since they left the rebellion and he knew his brother had been training from dawn till dusk. Judging by the reptile's large muscles and sharp spikes, Hurricane would have more of a challenge. Plus he barely knew Whiplash anymore, it was almost impossible to tell what he would do.

"Nothing, never mind" he said.

"That's what I thought" Whiplash glared turning away from Hurricane and lying back down.

Hurricane watched and his expression remained concerned. Whiplash was so angry all the time. He didn't know why but he needed to consult someone who did know the dragon. Deciding that would be his first mission the next day, he lay down next to Fawn and let himself slip back into sleep.
