Chapter One pt. 2
Lucy and Alex
It had not taken Alex and Lucy long to find the strange girl the boy mentioned earlier. When they went to the diner next to the motel, their waitress, who was just as equally skeptical of the strange girl as the boy from earlier, mentioned that the girl had a job at the bookstore in town. Alex and Lucy went there next. It was a small shop with wall to wall bookshelves and three additional rows of bookshelves in the center of the store.
A small bell dinged as they walked into the bookstore, and the girl looked up from her novel at the register. She nodded her head to Lucy and Alex and went right back to reading her book. Lucy's phone vibrated as she and Alex pretended to browse book.
"It's Isis, she is telling us to abort the mission now." Lucy said in a low voice. "She had been so adamant about us going now we finally have a lead and she wants us to leave."
Alex raised a brow at Lucy and whispered, "So you admit that there is something strange going on?"
Lucy rolled her eyes. "I felt it as soon as we walked through the door, that girl is definitely a witch."
The bell dinged again and two women walked into the bookstore. They both wore black leather jumpsuits, and both Alex and Lucy recognized them immediately. Asesina had pale skin, and wore black boots that stopped mid calf. Around her right thigh was a harness that held four daggers and around her waist was a black leather harness that housed twin swords. They both rested on either side of her hips and Lucy knew they both had sixteen inch curved blades. She wore steel gloves with pointed tips at the fingers. Her hair was black and parted down the side, falling just below her shoulders. Her lips were painted with dark red lipstick a sinister grin on her face.
Her companion they also knew was her younger sister. She wore thigh high black stilletoes and had on black gloves. Her hair was cut into a bob and a mask covered her nose and mouth so that you could only see her silver eyes. She two had daggers strapped in a harness around her right thigh, and a single gun harness around her waist.
Lucy and Alex quickly ducked out of sight, as the two women approached the witch.
"I really hate small towns." Asesina said loudly, as she sat on top of the counter.
The girl started to protest when Asesina held her hand up to silence her. She looked down at the girl and continued. "You see, it makes rounding up rogue witches so much easier and part of the fun is the chase."
Archane sighed and said, "Come on Sina, I would like to make it back to headquarters as soon as possible."
"I'm not going back to B26!" The girl yelled as she backed away from Asesina.
Asesina smiled as she stood on top of the counter, "Why yes that was just the kind of fun I was thinking about."
"Sina, we are not even supposed to be here right now. Cas..."
Asesina looked at her sister and sighed, "You're right. Well little witch, you are free to for now." She jumped off of the counter and walked towards the door, "Archane?" She paused looking back at her sister who stared at a bookshelf.
At her name being called Archane looked up and started walking out of the store. Lucy and Alex quickly came out of hidding as Alex glared at Lucy.
"Maybe Cas was the reason she wanted us to leave." He said as the girl ran past him and out of the door. "We should leave before he gets here."
"What about the girl?" Lucy asked.
Alex held open the door and said, "For now we let her go. Let's head back to Winterview now."
Lucy walked through the door," At least I don't have to sleep in that roach infested room anymore."
Hawke
It was almost daybreak when he reached their meeting place. It was a an old safe-house a few hours from Winterview, a small one story two bedroom house, that had been abandoned for years now. He sat down on a dusty old sofa as she stepped forward out of the shadows.
"Your people were in Mapleview." Archane said softly.
Hawke ran a hand through his hair and said, "They were. And you are supposed to go to Winterview, for what?"
Archane frowned, "How do you know about that?"
"I sure as hell did not find out about it from you." Hawke said as he pulled a pack of Camel Crush from the pocket of his duster. She watched as he put one to his lips and lit it.
She let out a sigh, "They just want me and Sina to poke around a bit, see if we can smoke out a few witches. It's a standard assignment."
"Of course it is..."
Archane rolled her eyes, "What does it matter to you? I've heard reports that Isis is somewhere in east Asia."
Hawke had also heard those same reports. Reports that he now knew to be false. He took a long drag of his cigarette and said, "Those reports are bullshit. She is in Winterview, Winterview is also where I currently reside."
Archane was silent for a long time before saying, "We won't make it there for a couple of days. We were called back to headquarters, something about a witch in Mapleview disappearing."
"Thank you for that." Hawke said smiling at the girl who now stood directly in front of him.
She straddled him and asked, "How much time do you have until you have to be back?" She kissed the side of his neck and he closed his eyes.
"However long you need." He said as he put his cigeratte out in the glass ashtray, that sat on the small table next to the sofa. He placed his hands on her hips as he closed his eyes and threw his head back.
She kissed him slowly before asking, "Will you be able to pick up and move in a few days?"
Hawke frowned, "No. We will stay, whatever happens, happens. Now on to other things we can go back to playing enemies later." He said before kissing her roughly.
Jin and Isis
Malone's had closed just thirty minutes prior, and Isis and Jin where almost finished cleaning up. Jin walked over to her, his apron thrown over his shoulder as she replaced the last glass. She flashed him a warm smile.
"It is so fun bartending." Isis said as she walked from around the bar.
Jin smiled, "I'm glad you like it here, you are a natural. Sorry about my brother earlier."
"Oh you don't have to apologize for Tristian, he does that enough on his own." Isis said the smile never leaving her face.
Jin looked at her with raised brows. "You do know Hawke hates to be called Tristian right?"
"Oh yes, he hates it even more when I call him that." Isis laughed, her eyes had a sinister glint to them.
Jin laughed nervously and asked, "Did you two date or something? You seem familiar..."
Isis's eyes grew distant, "Yes we have meet before..." she suddenly laughed, "But me and Tristian date? That is funny, I can do so much better than him."
They walked out of Malone's together, where the man from earlier, leaned against a black motorcycle. Isis left out a deep sigh and looked at Jin.
"I can do so much better than him....but still." She let out another sigh. "Don't tell him that I left with Darrion." She smiled at him warmly, "It is truly good to see you again."
She turned away from him and he watched as she walked towards the man who smiled at her. He instantly disliked the man and he could not put a finger on why. He watched as she hopped on the back of his motorcycle and wrapped her arms around his waist, pressing her body against his as he revved the engine and then took off.
Jin knew that she had told him not to tell Hawke about Darrion. But he liked Isis and Darrion seemed like trouble. His brother could be a complete dick, but he could tell his brother cared about Isis. He also knew that Isis was in love with his brother. If anyone would look out for her it would be Hawke. So he decided as he got into his car and started the engine that the first thing he would do in the morning was tell Hawke.
