Chapter Five pt.2
Cas and Walt
"You must really like this girl." Walt said as he walked towards where Cas was standing on the roof binoculars to his eyes. "Because this is creepy, even for you."
Cas watched as the girl laid her bags on her couch before pulling out her laptop and looking up information on secret government organizations. He knew this because he had bugged her computer, cellphone, car and apartment. He also knew that while she had completely ignored his threat, she had not discussed any of her findings with anyone else. Not that she had found anything of substance, however it worried him that she had found a small connection to the Isis and Jin fighting and the kids going missing eighteen years prior. The source itself was laughable but sources did seem to be laughable when the government were paying to keep their dirty secrets, secret.
"I just want to make sure that she doesn't get too involved. She completely ignored my warning." Cas said in disbelief.
Walt snickered, "More like empty threat. We already ruled her out, so why are you still watching her?"
Cas was silent for a moment before saying, "Because I have a feeling...I told her not to dig because if she happens to find herself at the wrong place at the wrong time than she could get seriously hurt." He put the binoculars down and looked at Walt, "I have a feeling someone is supposed to be recording this, and that someone is her."
Walt said nothing as Cas repositioned the binoculars over his eyes and began watching her once again. In all of the time they had been together Cas had not once showed an interest in any other woman but Isis. And that was less about romance and more about Cas's bruised ego. Cas had always been about doing what needed to be done so that they could find her. Sure they worked for B26, but that was to take the heat away from what they were really trying to do. Now Cas was being distracted by a human girl who would turn out to be nothing more a nuisance and Walt wondered if B26 was on to them. If somehow they had placed that girl their knowing what Cas and Walt were up to. However Walt quickly dismissed that idea. Whoever was running that show could not be that intelligent. Cas said nothing as Walt walked away. The girl, Danelle stopped her research suddenly and looked out of her window. She couldn't see him, he knew that for certain, but she had to have had a feeling that someone was watching her because she stood up and closed her blinds.
Hawke
The night air felt cool against his skin, as he leaned against his bike. He was back at the abandoned house and he watched as the sun set gently against the sky.
"I never took you for the kind of guy that appreciates nature." Archane said walked towards him from behind.
Hawke offered her a playful grin as he pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket. He pulled one out and replaced the pack.
"Well that just goes to show you don't know everything about me." He said as he placed the cigarette between his lips. He pulled out a black zippo with a thunderbolt design and flicked it open. The flame danced as he lit the cigarette before he quickly snapped the zippo shut placing it in his pocket. He inhaled the smoke quickly and exhaled slow.
"I know enough." Archane responded as she stood next to him folding her arms over her chest. "I know you are not in love with me."
"I never claimed to be...."
Archane chuckled softly and added, "I also know that you are very aware of the fact that I am in love with you."
He didn't respond, but then again how could he? He knew that she loved him, and even though he would never love her he still gave her hope. He used her as a release, and even though he hated to admit it the only thing he did was use her.
"It's okay." She said before clearing her throat, "I did not call you here for that, I called you here because of what happened at Malone's."
"Yeah, speaking of that." Hawke finished his cigarette and tossed it to the ground. "It looked an awful lot like you were going to help your sister kill Isis."
Archane giggled, "Ah, it possibly crossed my mind but that is not important. Tristian."
Hawke clenched his jaw as his eyes locked with hers. "They really want Eros back, and we have orders to kill whoever gets in the way." Archane's expression softened. "If I continue to help you from this point on I am signing my own death certificate. Is it worth it to me to do that?"
Hawke looked at her and felt regret. He knew what she was really asking him. She was asking if he could ever love her. And he couldn't lie to her, even though he knew that it would be easier and more beneficial to him. Even though they were on different sides of the battlefield, even though he did not return her feeling he still looked to her as a friend. And it was that reason alone that he did not lie.
"If your intention was to win my affection, than no your life is worth more than that. But if it is because you know what they are doing is wrong, and you want to do the right thing, then yes that is worth risking your life for."
Archane looked away from him and asked, "Is that why you are doing this? Because it's the right thing or is it something else."
"I don't know what you are implying..."
"Don't start lying to me...it's bad enough you do it to her..." Archane walked away leaving Hawke alone with his thoughts.
Isis
Isis hesitated before knocking on the door to Alex and Jin's room. Jin looked up from the book he was reading and upon seeing who it was smiled. She walked in and sat on the bed next to him.
"How are you taking everything?"
Jin raised a brow, "Well it is not everyday you find out your a reincarnation of an ancient dragon that the government experimented on for...why is the government involved?"
"Normal reasons they want to create super soldiers..."
Jin stood up suddenly, "That's just it, there is more to this than I think you all have looked at."
"Oh? Isis looked at him with interest, "And just what have we all been overlooking."
"I...I don't know I just have a feeling that B26 is the least of our worries and something bigger is at play." Jin let out a deep sigh.
Isis stood and placed a hand on his shoulder, "Perhaps, but until we figure out what exactly that is...we should deal with this threat."
"Perhaps..."
