CHAPTER 5 EDITED
HUNTER X HUNTER CHAPTER 5
RECAP
I shrugged and smiled, I rub my hands together feeling a bit cold, "At least I'm helping you!" I paused when I noticed Gon stopping and pulling out his fishing pole. With great accuracy he used the hook to grab the bag laying on the ground.
"Wow!" I yell as I look at his fishing pole excitedly, that was so cool!
Killua nodded in agreement, "Oh, that's a pretty cool trick, would you let me do that?"
I nodded my head eagerly wanting to try it out as well, "Only if you lend me your skateboard and make me float in the air too!"
Killua and I both share a look before grinning, "DEAL!!!"
With a strong powerful snap of my fingers I made Killua and Gon float into the air as well.
NIJIKA P.O.V.
"Whoa! This is so awesome!" Killua grinned as he flipped in the air, his pale hands were inside his pant pocket as he did a few other tricks. Next to him the black spikes haired boy was whole heartily laughing as he swam in the air doing the breast stroke.
Leorio on the other hand was laying on his back as he panted heavily. He had his eyes closed and was resting.
"Hey!" I yell catching all three of the male's attention, "I'm going to drop my concentration of the air and give it to you guys, that way you can control it yourself."
A look of horror appeared on Leorio's face was he pointed at me.
"How the hell are we suppose to do that?"
"Just think, if you want to go forward think in your mind of going forward, you should be able to do it," I easily explain looking at them currently I was upside down in an Indian style, "Are you ready?"
Beside the two boys, Leorio looked a bit uncertain but nodded anyways. I then closed my eyes in concentration going threw my head. I snapped my eyes open and saw myself standing in the middle of a pure white room where there were multiple golden strings connected to different boxes stuck to the white walls, almost looking like a golden spider web. I searched for the box that contained the power that helped be control the elements, I passed by water and earth, searching for the right box. I smirked when I found a box labeled 'air' with fancy golden letters. The box was open and had four strings floating out of it.
I slowly leaned down to pick it up, carefully fingering the thin strands as if they could easily break.
Out of the four strings the thickest one would be mine since the power belongs to me. The other three will belong to Killua, Gon, and Leorio since they are borrowing my power. By cutting it off from the box the power will be theirs temporary, the length of the string is the length how long they would hold the power.
6 hours should be enough. With that I apply saliva on my fingers before wetting the string. The first string easily snapped off, indicating the person's soul and body to be a bit weak. As soon as the string broke the image of Leorio immediately ran through my mind, out of the three boys he was the weakest.
I repeated my action, this time I needed to rub the string before it slowly came apart. I smiled, I could tell this person had a strong soul. My saliva couldn't break through the string, which meant this person had a strong mental strength, but by adding movement the string broke. So this meant this person is strong in the inside, but physically he still lacked a bit.
Like the first string the image of the person popped inside my head. Gon, he needed to improve his physical strength a bit.
The last string which belonged to Killua interested me. Though not as thick as my sting, compared to the two other it was thicker. Also a tint darker.
Without hesitation, I wetted my finger and took the string between my thumb and index. My eyebrows furrowed as I rolled it between my finger waiting for it to snap. It didn't.
I smiled, this was the first time this happened. A strong soul as well as a body, definitely something you don't see everyday. With slight irritation, I took the string with two hands and tried to pull it apart. I growled slightly when it didn't break. With a small vein appearing on my forehead, I brought the string to my mouth and used my teeth to snap the golden string. I sighed when the string finally did snap. I let the three strings that I had in my hands rest in my palm. With a gentle blow from my mouth the strings floated in the air before disappearing.
With that I cut my concentration and opened my eye of my physical body. Instead of the white room, I saw the dark tunnel I was floating through.
"Whoa, Killua I can control where I'm going!" I smiled when I heard the loud laugh of Gon.
I caught sight of the two guys floating side by side, Killua mischievously grinned while clapping, "Oh, sugeeeeeee!"
My eye searched for the other male I lent my power to. I stifled a laugh as I saw Leorio floating quite similar to how I was earlier. He was upside down looking slightly blue his long legs crossed.
"How the hell am I suppose to control this!!!" He screamed before covering his mouth turning blue to green.
"I forgot to mention, people with dark thoughts can't control them," I joked, lying to the poor man.
Leorio suddenly turned pale, his little soul floating out of his mouth. Feeling slightly bad I advice him,
"Saying where you want to go out loud may help."
The life soul seemed to get sucked back into his body, "M-Move forward, my body up right!" I watched with a satisfying grin as Leorio moved as he said.
I gave him one last glance before flying towards were Kurapika was running. I land right next to him before matching his pace.
"Hey you ok?" I question the blonde, out of all of us, he was the only one running.
He send me a small smile as he brushed his blonde hair out of his blue eyes, "I'm actually doing pretty fine, from listening to people around me, I've learned we had one person drop out so far."
I nod appreciating the information, "Hey if you get tired tell me, I'll lend you some of my wind."
He sent me a graceful look before nodding. A silence fell between us before I grew curious.
"Any specific reason why you're taking the exam?" I slightly regretted my action when I noticed Kurapika stiffen a bit. Was it a topic I shouldn't have asked?
"I-I'm the only survivor of the Kurata Clan." My eyes widen slightly at the familiar name. I heard of it before, the clan with people with scarlet eyes, from the little information I have I've heard, the color of the red is beautiful, "Four years ago all my relatives were murdered by thieves."
I felt the anger and sadness in his voice, but I didn't look at him with pity. Pity is one of the things I hate most, and I don't believe other people except you have the right to give people pity.
"I'm taking this exam to become a hunter, so I could hunt down the thieves, the Phantom Troupe also known as the Genei Ryodan." If my eyes could widen even more it would have.
"The Phantom Troupe?" I mumbled questioning if I heard right. Apparently I did since Kurapika snapped his head towards me in alarm.
"Do you know about them?" I shook my head, "I personally don't know them, but it's the second time I've heard that name today. Earlier when I was heading towards the exam I saved a man who was attacked by them."
With slight fascination I watched the blonde's eyes turn slightly red before going back to blue.
"You're wearing contacts?" I questioned as I looked at his eyes. He gave me a stiff nod while breathing out.
"Why are you taking the exam Nijika?" I let him change the topic of the conversation with a smile.
"Well I-"
I was suddenly interrupted as Gon and Killua landed besides Kurapika and I, sandwiching us.
"I want to listen!" Gon cried as he ran with a goofy grin. He ran beside Kurapika, in his hand was Killua's skateboard. I turned towards the silver haired boy running beside me, he looked at me with his blue cat like eyes full of interest.
"I'm taking this exam because with my license, I'll have a higher chance of finding a certain man." I imagine the brunette I saw on the newspaper in my mind, "You might have heard him, I'm searching for Sorata Kijime."
I noticed how both Killua and Kurapika send me a look of alarm, while Gon cutely tilted his head in confusion, he obviously never heard the name before.
"The man who assassinated three thousand soldiers for a mission?" Kurapika questioned in suspicion.
I nodded with a frown, "Yeah."
"Do you want to kill him or something? Maybe one of your relative was one of the soldiers?" Killua questioned as he ran besides me.
I shook my head, "Nah, have you seen any type of picture of him before?" Kurapika gave a small, thoughtful nod, "Once or twice in a Newspaper and from my research, he's known to be a skilled blacklist hunter."
"Then can you see the resemblance with him and me?"
Both Kurapika and Killua snapped their heads towards we observing my face.
A thoughtful look crossed both males faces. "You guys are leaving me out!" Gon wailed as he sends us a look.
I shot him a look of apology, "Sorata Kijime is a well know blacklist hunter," I explain, "When I was an infant I was abandoned in the woods, the reason why I grew up with Yama Inu and Mizu Nekos. Few years back, I learned about Sorata Kijime and people kept pointing out my resemblance with him."
Killua looked at me closely, his blue eyes narrowed, "You do look like him."
I frowned, knowing he was right, "Yeah, I know, I've even got attacked a few times by the enemy who thought I was him. Any ways around the same time I learned about a him, rumor about him searching for his sister reached my ear."
"So you think he might be related to you." Kurapika stated finishing up my sentence for me.
I nod, "Yeah, so I want to meet him, maybe talk and get some blood samples and see if we are related, it'll be nice if I had some blood related family."
"But wouldn't that mean you would be meeting the family who first off abandoned you in the forest?" Killua questioned, his tone a bit harsh.
Though it didn't bother me. "I don't really care, I liked my life in the forest, the company of the Yama Inu and Mizu Neko were nice."
The image of the huge cat and dog like animals popped in my head. They did raise me good.
"You're kinda like me, I'm searching for my Dad too!" Gon exclaimed. I looked at him interest, wanting to know his reason why he was taking the hunters exam.
"My dad left me with my aunt Mito-san to continue being a hunter, since he left his own son to be a hunter, I want to how amazing being one is!" I stared at Gon with new respect, I would expect him to be bitter towards his Dad, but in his large brown eyes I only could find honesty and excitement. He's a positive person, now I definitely want to be friends.
I eyed Killua who also had a thoughtful look in his eyes. Suddenly he smirked and looked up, "Hey Leorio, you're the only one not running, are you too old for the exercise?" The assassin taunted, his face becoming cat like.
"It's Leolio-San! Show respect, and I'm not that old! I can run!" With amusement I watched the suited man jump down clumsily before running beside us.
Now all of us ran in a horizontal line, Leolio being the only one sweating and panting heavily.
"Well damn," I hissed as I looked at the path in front of us. My eyes widen as I stared at the longest stairs in my life. I gave Leorio a worried glance but continued running.
Leorio whined while Gon and Killua laughed, I soon joined them, "This'll be fun!" The two boys nodded in agreement.
My sensitive ear perked when I heard Satotsu'a voice, "Well let's pick up the pace." I smirked, this man was cruel, now we'll definitely have people dropping out.
I slipped my thin jacket off before tying it around my waist and pulled out a small hair tie to bundle my short hair. Leolio followed my example and ripped off his dress shirt and jacket and started to sprint of the stair, his nose flaring up like a bull.
Kurapika and I shared a worried look before following the older male, "Leolio are you alright?"
The blonde question as he ran behind the sweating man. Leolio continued to run whole gasping, "As you can see, I'm.... Perfectly fine! I'm not the best, but it doesn't matter, I know I'll make it!"
I smiled before running pass both of them, I feel like they're going to have an important talk so I don't want to interrupt.
"Hey, Gon! Killua! Wait up!" I yell as I pass by other examines. My eyes counted the panting people laying on the ground. Total of 37.
Many of they looked at me in disbelief as I sprinted up the steps skipping every two. My eyes met with Illumi for a second, I flashed him a quick smile while he returned it with a wave. Next to him, the red haired magician was smiling happily. A shiver ran down my back as he grinned at me.
"Hurry up Nijika! Or we'll leave you!" Killua yelled back with a grin. I tore my eyes away from the magician before I gave Killua a determined smirk as I sprinted towards them.
Soon I ran beside them with a smug grin, "Ha, I caught up." Killua and Gon seemed surprised, but grinned at me and gave me a high five.
"You know, I didn't notice earlier, but we're in the very front." Gon commented as he looked back, his breathing was a bit uneven. I followed him and looked back, eyeing the other examines, many of them looked tired, and breathing hard.
"Yeah, but we're not going that fast. Trying to save energy and going your own pace is actually more tiring," I state as I eye Satotsu's back. This man, he was strong, I could feel it rolling off of him.
My attention went to Killua who let out a sigh, "I thought this was going to be more interesting, the hunters exam seems very accessible in reality, it's not fun." Gon looked at Killua in confusion while I frowned at my silver haired companions statement.
"Why did you want to become a hunter Killua?" Gon question while I listened with interest. "I don't really want to be a hunter, I've heard it's extremely hard, and I thought it sounded interesting, but honestly I'm disappointed. So Gon you want to be a hunter because of your Dad right? What kind of person is he?"
"I don't know!"
Killua and I shared a look before laughing, "Hahaha! That's not ordinary!" Killua and Gon conversed as I listened to them with a smile. It was funny how Gon had no idea what kind of guy his Dad was, yet he wanted to become a hunter because of some hunter telling him stories about him.
I pointed in front of me with a grin, "Hey, Guys! The exit!" I exclaim, happy to see the light. "Whoever gets there first gets a free lunch!" Killua screamed as he took off.
Gon and I shared a look before we sprinted after the teen, not wanting to pay lunch. "First place!" All three of us yell as we jump into the light. But I stopped my cheering when I saw what I didn't expect.
"No way," I groan and slump down.
