Chapter 3: The Crimson Queen

That night wasn't exactly the most comfortable for me, locked in one of their tents with a knight guarding outside. I mean, I could beat her easy. I'm not the Iron Prince for nothing, but I'm sure Alyssa doesn't want her knights getting hurt... even if she still keeps our secret.

"Prince! Aren't you lucky..." I heard a familiarly sweet voice from outside the tent, Alyssa's voice, although it didn't exactly seem sweet, it was easy to tell when she was acting. "We're not killing you tonight... instead. The Knights have chosen to use you as leverage against your own Kingdom. Isn't it nice to know you'll be the reason your kingdom falls?" she continued, and I sighed and rolled my eyes, and I could tell that annoyed her a little from the way she turns around.

"Bind him and let him rot. Then you can all rest easy, tomorrow will be an easy battle." She said to her knights surrounding her, staring at her both in awe and inspiration as she walked away to her own tent, followed by all but the guard outside my tent, who locked my arms with a surprisingly fluffy set of handcuffs that looked like clouds.

The guard, a worried look on her face, noticed my confusion and showed me her smirk, making me shiver as I heard her words. "Don't expect this little thing to be easy to get out of, Guardian. We're not dumb enough to use iron bindings on someone like you. Try to get out and this will shock lightning so deep into you, you'll be knocked out to next week."

I could only shiver at the thought. So that's what they meant... we've heard of stories of Guardians dying to such a device, a torture weapon used only against the most loyal of the Iron Fortress and thought to have been accounting for the disappearance of multiple groups of Guardians, but as I shook it out of my mind, I still noticed her worried look, and I asked without thinking. "What's wrong...?"

To my surprise, she replied without a thought. "My friend hasn't come back from her expedition." She said, quickly noticing what happened and immediately putting her guard up against me, "Hah! Most likely your Guardians have already caught and killed her. If I had the choice, I would've killed you already. But no... this fight is more important than just my retribution. I am a Knight of Firmament, I will not let her death be in vain!" she stood up and quickly turned around, leaving the tent as I tried to lift my hand to stand up, quickly getting a massive electrical shock that made me curl on the ground in pain.

"Ahh... I can't even stand up..." I sighed, lying down on the bed to fall asleep.

My sleep didn't last long as a loud explosion filled the camp. The sounds of Firmament Knights running around toward the source of the explosion filled the air, the voice of my Princess quickly replacing them. "Knights! What's happened?! Are we being attacked?!" she shouted out, as I heard her voice come nearer, figuratively dragging me out of my stupor and literally dragging me out of my tent.

The explosion had come from behind the camp, and as Alyssa dragged me with her to it, she stood still at the view, and from a quick look around me as I was facing the wrong way, everyone else was also shocked frozen. "Janet... w-what are you doing...?" I heard a familiar voice say, it was my guard, the one that had given me the cuffs.

Realising a traitor had attacked them, I stood up using Alyssa's hand to help me up and looked over to watch the scene unfold, only to be struck frozen by the sight. The Knight had looked messy, her armour torn at the sides and just barely hanging onto her body, her blade on the floor with blood on its edge as well as on her face and arms, but what I struggled to comprehend the most was what she held in her hands.

One held a lightning bolt, her own element, and the other held a floating ball of crimson blood. Noticing she had the lightning bolt pointed against Alyssa, she quickly threw it at her and in a split-second reaction, I broke my cuffs, taking the electrical shock they dealt with gritted teeth as I lifted a stone wall from the ground, blocking the lightning bolt but cracking the stone into pieces.

"Impossible..." I muttered, staring at the traitorous Knight as I saw her hurl crimson blood at me, only to splash on the floor as another Knight launched a bolt at her chest, piercing what was left of her armour taking her down in one shot.

As I passed out, I could hear the last muttered words of the fallen knight, her voice crackling but sounding a lot older than she looked. "I will kill you, Firmament Knight..." she said, falling to the blood-soaked ground.
