🌻Chapter Two; Part Two: The Exam🌻

They walked down into the foyer to find all of the freshmen crowded around Dean Goeffe who was standing on the stairs with an ice cold glare.

"Does she ever smile? You'd think she hates her job or something." Rachael says.

"Her job is keeping a bunch of post-adolescent magick-using youths alive. I am one, and I still don't want that job." Zeph laughs.

All three of them walked over to the papers taped on the wall, to see where their placement exams will take place. Rachael skimmed her finger down down the page stopping when she found her name.

Zeph looked over her shoulder. "You got Kontos, too? Nice! And mines right before yours. Walk over together?"

"Sure, I'd like that." Rachael smiles.

"I, however, have to trudge all the way across campus to the clock tower for mine. I'll catch up with you guys later." Shreya says.

Zeph and Rachael head towards the door to leave seeing Griffin talk to a friend in the hall. She waved at him politely. "Good luck, freshmen!" Griffin calls out to them.

"Thanks!" Rachael smiles back at him as the two of them head out of the building.

"Hey...about earlier. Sorry, if it felt like I was prying." Zeph says rubbing the back of his neck.

"It's fine. Shreya was just being cautious, but I know I can trust you, and I think she knows now too." Rachael reassures.

"I still wish I could have been more help. It seems like you're going through a lot." Zeph sighs.

"You could say that. But I've got you and the famous Shreya Mistry in my corner, so I think I'll be alright." Rachael smiles.

"Shreya's something else, isn't she? Sharp as a knife, great sense of humor, and a stellar fashion sense. She's my kind of person." Zeph says.

"Your kinda person, huh? Do I sense a crush brewing?" Rachael teases.

"Nah, it's not like that. I'm aro-ace, actually." Zeph explains.

"That's cool. I hope you didn't feel pressured to share that." Rachael smiles at him. "I'm a disaster bisexual, if it makes you feel more comfortable."

"I wasn't pressured at all. I wanted to tell you. I'm done with being afraid of showing people who I really am. That's so high school Zeph. Besides, I wanted you to know this little factoid about me, since it's obvious we're going to be the best friends." Zeph smiles.

"Well, I'm honored." Rachael says.

"As you should be." Zeph laughs. "I guess you could say I'm into people friendically."

Rachael giggles as they get closer to the garden house. "That's one way to put it."

"So, I heard you were the one who came through the lake yesterday. What happened?" Zeph asks.

"Uh...Zeph, If I tell you why. You can't tell anyone, okay?" Rachael says anxiously.

"Yeah, of Course. You're kind of worrying me a little, Rachael." Zeph says concerned, as she starts to spill everything that's happened to her in the part two days. "Woah, but how did you get here? Someone has to know there's been a mistake or something, right?"

"That's exactly what I've been asking! I'm starting to think it wasn't a mistake after all...That maybe someone wanted me here." Rachael says.

"That's super spooky! I can't believe all of that happened in the last twenty-four hours." Zeph says.

"Talking about this is such a relief. Shreya was way to casual when I told her about this. I was freaking out yesterday." Rachael says.

"Rightly so! Even in the magickal world, that's pretty weird origin story. But don't worry, I'll help you figure this out." Zeph says.

"Thanks. I'm gonna need all the help I can get. But... You won't tell anyone, right?" Rachael asks.

"Cross my heart and really hope not to die, because I'm too young, gorgeous, and witty." Zeph laughs, as they approach the garden house. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta go get told that I'm a Water-Att."

After a few minutes Zeph came back out of the garden house with the biggest grin on his face. "Well surprise surprise, I passed with flying colors! By which I mean, I'm a Water-Att. You're up."

"Oh God...let's see how this goes over." Rachael sighs to herself as her stomach begins to churn. She took a deep breath and stepped into the building.

The greenhouse was warm and filled with the soft fragrance of florals. The entire room was consumed with plant life, only a small section of the room was plantless that contained the student's and teacher's desks.

"Woah, we have class here..." Rachael mumbles.

"You most certainly will." Kontos appears from behind his desk. "Please, sit. Don't worry, this test will come as naturally to you as magick itself."

Rachael frowned having a feeling this wasn't going to end well, she took a seat in front of his desk and he leaned in a little. He furrowed his brow and observed her intensely.

"Well, your presence is certainly strong. The strongest I've felt in... quite a long while." Kontos says. "Yes, your potential must be fairly high. Now just relax."

"Trust me, I'm doing my best." Rachael says nervously.

He laughs at her, before clearing his throat. "Pardon me. Ahem. I'm going to ask you a series of questions Close your eyes and answer as honestly as you can."

Rachael closed her eyes and focused on his voice, his deep vocals sending relaxation over her.

"A sphinx asks you a to answer a riddle what do you do?" Kontos asks.

"Take a random guess..." Rachael shrugs.

"What sound do you find most pleasing?" He asks.

"A rushing river." Rachael answers.

"Choose a potion." Kontos says listing out her options.

"Mercurial, shiny, and silver."

"If you could live anywhere where would you live?" Kontos asks.

"In the ocean?" Rachael shrugs.

"You're at a crossroads. A bank of fog lies ahead. Which way do you go?" He asks.

"Straight through it." Rachael says.

"How do you make decisions?" Kontos asks.

"With great difficulty." Rachael laughs at herself, silence filled the room and she opened her eyes.

The room was full of a bright white light and she had to blink rapidly until it started to dim. The Professor was resting his chin on his fist and staring past her thoughtfully. "Hmm...this is quite interesting. Very interesting indeed."

"What?" Rachael asks confused.

"Hm? Oh, yes. I just-I just need a moment to-" He says cutting himself of and digging through the shelf behind him pulling off a bright gold book. "Alright. I have a suspicion about you, Rachael. But I'll need one last test to be sure. Is that alright?"

"I guess..." Rachael says unsure.

He open up his desk drawer and pulled out a small, silver pitch pipe, handing it to her. "Stand, please." Rachael did as told and he put a pair of goggles over his eyes. "Now when you're ready, blow."

She hesitantly brought the pipe to her lips and blew into it gently. The pipe let out a shrill and shatter the nearest window.

"Holy shit!" Rachael gasps, as a gust of wind ripped through the room and tore through the treehouse.

"As expected." Kontos smiles, stopping the storm she created. "Perfect. Marvelous, actually. Absolutely astounding."

She sat back down thoroughly confused. "What was that all about?"

"It's just...Well, you have no idea, do you?" Kontos beams with excitement.

"No idea about what?" Rachael asks, nervously. "You're starting to scare me a bit..."

Professor Kantos sat back down in his chair and smiled at her with genuine wonder. "You my dear girl, are Sun-Attunded."

"And that's good?" Rachael asks unsure.

He laughs at her again. "Yes! Very good! And that's not all...You're also Air Attunded. It's truly astounding. Your potential is so high that it was difficult to get a clear reading."

"What do you mean 'my potential'?" Rachael asks.

He gestured to a poster on his wall, with a diagram of different sized teacups. "Imagine that inside of you is s teacup, and imagine that the tea inside is magick. Some have a small teacup. 'Less capacity' is the official term. While those with a larger capacity have a bigger cup like this one here."

"So you're saying I have a pretty big tea cup?" Rachael says.

"Something like that. By my estimation, your 'teacup' looks something closer to this." He says standing up and setting down an ale tankard the size of a small giant.

"So...I have a shit ton of potential and two Attunements? What does that mean?" Rachael asks.

"It's means, Ms. Michelle, that you might be one of the most powerful Attuned person to ever grace these halls." Kontos smiles.
