🌻Chapter Eleven: Part One; Double Double🌻
"I'm your twin." Atlas says.
"Well, no shit Sherlock! I kinda got that from the fact that you have the same fucking face as me!" Rachael shouts annoyed, like fuck you I'm not that stupid.
The tension between them was thick enough to cut with a knife as their glares only grew more powerful. Professor Swan looked between the two before jumping up from behind her desk. "Elidi, Atlas! Let's just calm down... I see the two of you have a lot to catch up on... so why don't I make some tea? And... maybe something a little stronger for myself..."
"Elidi...?" Rachael mumbles looking between them confused, but no one seemed to be keen on elaborating.
Swan handed her a cup of tea and hesitantly let Atlas have the Brandi she'd pulled out for herself. "Rachael, the tea will have the herbal supplement I mentioned. You should still see a nurse at some point, but at least-"
"I don't have time for tea! I want to know why she was stalking me!" Rachael huffs, making Swan jump a bit.
"I wasn't stalking you, I was trying to get you to let me out!" Atlas shouts.
"Let you...out?" Rachael asks.
"Yeah, I got stuck in there months ago trying to save your dumbass!" Atlas sighs.
"Oh, Atlas..." Swan says sadly.
"Oh, Atlas?! Oh, Atlas!? Why are you taking her side I don't even know what's going on!" Rachael huffs.
"I was trying to save you from the self-aggrandizing sod that calls himself the Dread. That's what's going on!" Atlas replies.
"You mean Raife Highmore?" Rachael asks.
"I'm surprised you know his true name." Atlas scoffs.
"Elidi's been studying hard while she's been here! I'm glad something has stuck!" Swan says, getting a middle finger from Rachael. "Though, I had hoped it would be more on her school work instead of a subject I specifically told her not to look into."
"Well it gave me more information than you did!" Rachael grumbles. "He's the guy who killed all those kids."
"It wasn't kids. It was twins. Hundreds of them." Atlas says. "He was looking for us."
"Atlas..." Swan says cautiously.
"No don't Atlas her! Maybe she'll actually tell me something!" Rachael says, raising her voice.
"You didn't even know magick existed until a few months ago. Why would you expect anyone to tell you anything!" Atlas growls. "You want to know what going on then I'll tell you-"
"Atlas, that's enough! She's...She's not ready..." Swan says aggressively.
"And who's fault is that! The Michelle family knew this day would come! It was their job to prepare her, like my caregivers did me!" Atlas says.
"Prepare me for what!?" Rachael yells at her breaking point.
"For the fight to come, as course. Our birth parents separated us to keep us safe. Our caregivers were supposed to keep us hidden." Atlas says. "And now, Raife knows where we are and knows we're together. Our time is up, and you have no idea what's coming!"
"Then what do we do?" Rachael asks.
"Now you go back to your room and keep Atlas out of sight until I can figure out what to do about this mess!" Swan says.
"That's it? But what about-" Rachael asks.
Swan put her hand up sternly, to stop her. "Please, Elidi. I know this is a lot to process, and I know you have more questions, but... It's my duty to keep you safe. The both of you. Please. Let me do that."
"Fine." Atlas nods, hesitantly.
"Uh, Okay. Sure this is great and all. Except for the fact that Atlas has the same face as me. People are going to notice that I suddenly have a twin sister." Rachael says.
"Ah, I've got just the solution for that." Swan smiles. "I can put an illusion over Atlas that will make her invisible to everyone except you. It only last for thirty minutes though, so you'll have to go straight back to your dorm room. Don't stop for anything!"
She walked over to Atlas and tapped her head twice, a quick flash of a rainbow covering her.
"Is it working? What are those lights?" Rachael asks confused, following Atlas as she stood up to look in the mirror. Only to find that she was the only one there. "Cool, you're invisible."
"Yes, thanks for letting me know." Atlas grumbles, rolling her eyes, starting to walk towards the door.
"Looks like we're leaving now." Rachael sighs.
"Before you go... I know Atlas has a lot of hard edges, but she's your sister. And she did a lot to keep you safe and shield you from the evils out there. Just remember that while I try to sort this all out. I suspect living with her in close quarters is going to grow... tiresome." Swan says softly.
"I kinda already have that feeling." Rachael sighs, before following Atlas put into the hall.
Atlas was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed. "Finally. I need you to show me to the Hall of Mirrors. The entrance on your end, of course, not the mirror I came through."
"I don't think we should we got scolded pretty hard back there and I know that I'm ready to pass out from exhaustion..." Rachael says.
"You do realize our lives are on the line here, right? Trust me, I know better than Swan does." Atlas says, resting bitch face in full effect.
"Fine, I'll show you, but take it down a notch will you?" Rachael sighs, starting to walk down the hall. "You may be invisible, but the whole school will hear you yelling if you keep this up."
"Fine. This is your turf I'll play by your rules." Atlas shrugs.
"What exactly are you expecting to find there anyway?" Rachael asks.
"You don't think it's suspicious that I've been banging on the other side of the glass for months, but now I'm suddenly able to get through?" Atlas replies. "If that's a coincidence, I'll eat a skizditch whole."
They turned the corner that leads to the Hall of Mirrors, Rachael stopping herself and Atlas dead in their tracks.
"Excuse me!" Atlas whisper yells.
"Shh! There's a teacher on guard..." Rachael says peering around the corner, to see Professor Englund standing out side the door.
"So?" Atlas shrugs, starting to stomp forward, getting halted again as Rachael grabbed her jacket sleeve. "If you touch my jacket one more time, I swear..."
"What's your plan here? You know you're effectively an intruder, right?" Rachael asks in a hushed tone.
"Yeah and currently also invisible. You can talk to him. Ask him my questions for me. He's got to know something that can help us." Atlas says continuing to walk, with Rachael hesitantly following.
"Rachael! One of my Star students. If this is about your homework assignment, we'll chat later." Englund says with a smile as she approaches him. "Students aren't allowed down this hall for the time being."
"Oh, why is that?" Rachael asks putting on the best confused face she could.
"You haven't heard? I thought It'd be all around school by now." Englund says. "I'm not really supposed to talk about it..."
"But you should make an exception because everyone already knows." Rachael says. "What could you tell me that I couldn't just find out from some random kid."
"I guess you make a fair point." Englund sighs. "Well... if anyone asks you heard it from the old rumor mill, but it appears that someone has vandalized the mirror room."
Rachael faked surprise, placing a hand on her chest. "What do you mean vandalized?"
"You're overdoing it." Atlas whispers at her from behind.
"That's all we know at the moment." Englund responds. "The Dean is currently busy attending to other matters, but she'll be down to check the sentry recordings as soon as she's finished."
"That's all, but what about-" Rachael starts.
"It's nothing to worry about. Now, please I need to keep this hallway clear." Englund says cutting her off.
The twins sighed and backtracked down the hallway reluctantly. "Well, that was a total waste of time." Rachael sighs.
"Not entirely..." Atlas shrugs, eying the sentry nearby then. "These sentries act like Attuneless video cameras. We may not be able to see inside the mirror room, but we can at least see the aftermath."
"Do you think it would be helpful?" Rachael asks.
"Considering we know absolutely nothing, I don't see how it could hurt. We should have enough time before Swan's spell wears off." Atlas suggests.
"I guess it can't hurt to try..." Rachael sighs.
