Chapter 30 - Stay
Enya and Laec walked out of the drawing room hand in hand, her thin, elegant fingers slipping easily between his. They made their way to a small balcony, neither speaking to the other until they stopped walking when they reached their destination.
Enya placed her hands upon the balcony as they watched the sun slowly rising, the sky becoming the colour of her hair. Her eyes started to brighten and shine, her curls fluttering slightly in the wind.
Laec could do nothing but look at her. She seemed to practically radiate beauty, her very skin seemed to glow with the light from the rising sun. And she was his. His to love, to kiss, to sweetly hold. His own. And she belonged to him, and he belonged to her. The bond between them was unbreakable and could never be touched by mortals. They'd defied death for their love, and her passion seemed to take it's form in her fire of a personality.
Some people are scared of fire. Afraid the flames will burn them, destroy their souls and take away their reasons for continuing with life. But this fire was nothing to be scared of. Only if you were facing her in combat that is. Then her sparks would change from love to hate and there was nothing that could change it back. Enya's fire was one of passion, self-confidence and utter meaning. She would hurt no one if they didn't make her.
"Enya," Laec whispered as he gazed at her sharp profile, a small curl falling in front of her electric eyes and moving slightly in the wind. She continued to stare into the distance, her eyes fixed upon some spot on the horizon. What could be so perfect to gain the attention of someone as beautiful as her? Laec thought hazily. How did I get so lucky?
Suddenly Enya started humming a tune and began to sing. Her voice sounded clear and sharp as a knife, yet soft as a feather. The most perfect juxtaposition lay in the notes she sung.
Things we lost to the flames.
Things we'll never see again.
All that we have amassed -
Sits before us - shattered into ash.
These are the things - the things we lost. The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire.
These are the things - the things we lost. The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire.
We sat and made a list, of all the things that we had.
Down the back of table-tops, ticket stubs in your diaries.
I read them all one day, when loneliness came when you were away.
Oh - they told me nothing new, but I love to read the words you use.
These are the things - the things we lost. The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire.
These are the things - the things we lost. The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire.
"But we haven't lost anything," Laec said, trying to make Enya meet his gaze.
"We've lost everything," she reasoned, "but at the same time we've gained everything. My life will never be the same again; it can never go back to how it was. So in that sense, yes, I've lost everything."
"But you have me." Laec took her hand; she turned towards him and plasma blue met jade green as their eyes connected like electricity. "So in that sense -"
"I have everything." Enya said quietly, not a whisper, but not quite speech.
Their lips found each others', and suddenly the world had begun and ended at the same time. They had never felt so alive and yet so diminished in the wake of the other - because in each other's eyes the other was perfect and they were the one not good enough for the other. That did nothing to lessen their affection. She tasted of flames and heat, he of earth and water. Two opposites collided in a combination that was utterly perfect and spelled out harmony, letter by letter.
The pair stood there, silhouetted against the fiery sky, and their lives had never felt so fulfilled. Both knew that one last evil force had to be defeated, but in this moment, nothing mattered but the other. They knew that love was completely insane, unreal, stupid if you like, but that was forgotten. They planned that strongest force on this Earth would not stop either of them from staying together, in this partnership that meant the happiness of the pair of them.
Their life as one.
A/N It's over! It's done! I can't believe it!! This is definitely the best story I've ever written, and I'd like to say thank you to some very special people -
Tash45 - for continuously reading and commenting, and her stories are just perfect. Go read them. Now.
Happibug - for so much support and being here since virtually the beginning.
LennyArts - for being there when I need to rant about fandoms :)
CharlotteHancock3 - for being an amazing and incredible best friend and sticking with me since I got engaged in this fandom (even if I do annoy you!)
And finally xHimeFFx - for being there since the beginning when I had just 80 reads. She has really helped me and supported me on every one of my stories so far, so this is why this chapter is dedicated to her.
Of course there's so many more, but I decided to stick with 5 to keep it even. Thank you all so much my devoted readers, for voting, commenting and being just generally fabulous. And watch out for the sequel! Until next time!!
