Chapter 19 - Velvet and Tears

The hours that followed commenced the preparations of Enya's funeral. She was laid in a coffin of mahogany but because she had died so recently the cover wasn't put on yet. Instead, the majority of her body was covered in the finest red velvet the kingdom had to offer. It was sewn in the design of smoke and flames, just like Enya's soul had been. She was dressed in her red silk gown that she had worn the day she met Laec, and her hair was still flowing wildly, even in death. A golden tiara sparkled between her fiery locks and a ruby necklace clasped around her throat.

The ceremony followed that same evening just as the sun was beginning to set. Laec, Ash and Aura sat in the front row, tears making their way silently down their cheeks. The same priest who took the medallion ceremony service was here, conducting the funeral.

"We are here," he said slowly and meaningfully, "to give thanks for the life of Princess Enya of Fierdom, whose life was cut so tragically short. Enya was a fearless young woman..."

The priest continued for a while, about how proud the King and Queen must have been to have such a beautiful and bold daughter, but most of the words just washed over Laec. He just stared ahead of him at the coffin covered in flowers. Enya's profile was visible through her wild hair, her electric blue eyes closed forever to him. He would never look into those eyes again, he would never kiss her as he had dreamed so often of doing.

"Prince Laec," the priest gestured to him, making Laec snap to attention. "Would you like to say a few words?"

Laec nodded silently and made his way up to the altar. He cleared his throat and began to speak.

"Enya was the bravest person I have ever known. Most would have given up to Nori, and even though she was so close to caving in, she stayed loyal until the end. I don't think anyone could ever match her bravery." He had to wipe away a tear before continuing to speak.

"As most of you already know, from the moment I saw Enya I knew she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever laid eyes upon. I felt almost unworthy to look at her I loved her so much. When we danced she was graceful and elegant, when she - she died she was innocent and helpless to Nori. And I admire her in every way possible. I just wish I could have told her all of this in person, and I - I hope she lives well in Heaven. She, of all people, deserves to."

Many people had to wipe away a tear as Laec spoke. He made his way down back to his seat, trying not to start screaming. He put on a brave face, but inside Laec's emotions were fighting so badly it felt like he was being repeatedly stabbed directly into his heart.

The ceremony was over shortly, and as the congregation filed out slowly Ash, Aura and Laec were the only people left in the small chapel. Laec knelt beside Enya's body, gazing at her helplessly. Aura sat beside Enya's head and began to cry. Ash put a supportive arm around her.

"Hey," he whispered into Aura's golden hair. "It's gonna be OK. I promise."

Aura was stroking Enya's hair and leaning over her face, still sobbing. She let a small tear fall down onto Enya's cheek. It really felt like all hope was lost. She and Ash buried their faces into each other's shoulder's as Ash kissed her softly, comforting her.

Laec was thinking of leaving when he saw something slightly unfamiliar. The point at which Aura's tear had touched Enya's lifeless cheek had begun to glow. Beams of light entered the chapel, and Aura looked up.

"What the -"

The beams of light surrounded Laec and Enya, lighting up her hair and bringing colour back into her pale face. She didn't look bony and thin like she had when Nori had starved her. Her hair gained shine, and her eyelids fluttered open.

"Laec?" she whispered as he leant over her, beams of joy spreading across his face.

"Enya!" he cried, tears of sadness becoming tears of ecstasy as he threw his arms round her and buried his face into her fiery curls. "You were dead! You were dead! This must be a dream!"

"If we can see it," Ash grinned, "it can't be a dream can it?"

"I was dead, Nori killed me, how on Earth -?"

"It must have been Aura!" Laec said as he held her to his chest, "she was crying and a tear fell onto your face. She must have healing powers."

"Laec, there was something I needed to tell you, before I died," Enya stuttered, suddenly coming over shy, completely untrue to her character.

"Enya, before that," Laec interrupted, "I have to tell you something."

He got down on one knee and held her slim fingers in his hand.

"Ever since I saw you I loved you. You're the bravest person I've ever known and you make me feel so insignificant compared to you. I've only known you for a week, but when you died I felt like a part of me had gone forever. And now you're here, I'm complete. So before I lose you again,"

Laec slid the azure ring he had on his hand off of his finger and offered it to Enya. She gasped her eyes lighting up as she covered her mouth with her hand.

"- will you marry me?"

"Yes Laec!" Enya cried as he stood up and finally, finally, kissed her. Their lips felt like two worlds finally meeting, connecting together as one; Enya's hot and passionate, Laec's cool and collected. His hands caressed her hair and hers wrapped around his neck as they kissed, neither beilieving that this was really happening. They remained there in ecstasy until Ash called over to them, a grin spreading from ear to ear,

"Hey! Before you go too far, there's a group of people standing just outside who might want to hear about this!"

They all laughed and, arm in arm, they left the chapel, finally united.

A/N I BET YOU THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD!! Forgot about the healing powers hey? I had such a good time writing the last few chapters, I feel so bad it's going to be over soon :( but I'm working on a new Mericcup fanfic and possibly a Jackunzel one too.

Like the new cover? I felt like editing and I think the effects on this one look better than the old one. Comment what you think!
