Chapter 16.
「 Yaoyorozu's POV 」
I was walking side by side with Shinsou, we were walking down towards the cat café we were going to be hanging out at.
"So how come you accepted my request to hang out?" Shinsou asked, he had his hands behind his head as we walked down the streets.
"Oh! Well, I find it refreshing to make friends! I personally think that you are a very interesting person, what can I say, I respect you, Shinsou~san! Your quirk is no doubt about it powerful, you also seem to be very smart!~" I smiled gently at the boy walking beside me, he seemed to have taken that to heart, because he was looking right at me, with a look that I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was expressing. Maybe as if he hadn't heard someone say to him? Even though I left out the part that I accepted the invite to get away from my thoughts, feelings and responsibilities for a while, even if it wasn't much.
Shinsou took his time with replying, he opened his mouth a few times to say something, but no words exited his mouth so he quickly shut it once he realized that nothing was really being said.
After maybe 2 minutes of that, Shinsou finally managed to get out a few words, "Thanks.. Mo~chan.."
I felt my face heat up at the nickname, "M-M-Mo~chan..?!" I managed to choke out, my face painted in a beet red colour.
Shinsou leaned his head back and let out a laugh that echoed out into the empty streets, obviously enjoying my reaction to receiving a nickname, "yeah? Your real name is Momo, right? So isn't Mo~chan a good nickname, hm?"
I turned away, covering my nose with my hand, some cherry blossoms popped out of my arms and slowly made their way down to the concrete underneath us, I couldn't bring myself to utter any words back at that. I couldn't deny that it was a cute nickname, but if he was going to use it everytime he wanted to adress me, my soul would probably leave my body.
Shinsou smirked, "here it is, the cat café that I talked about," he had stopped infront of a building and gestured vaguely towards it. Unlike most cat cafés in the area, this café had a more darker choice of colours. Most of the cat cafés had pastel colours and a lot of more cute decorations. This one however had gone for a more darker scheme, the base colours were brown and a darker green, giving the place a more more calm feeling. On the front window it had a sign the front that said that they were working in collaboration with a few cat shelters to let the cats interact with humans.
I felt myself smile, it looked more calm and relaxing than the other cat cafés, and to know that the cats roaming the place were cats from shelters made me feel a bit better about myself, then they would at least get more than one environment to roam around in.
"Are you coming, Mo~chan?" Shinsou called from the door, I noticed that I had just been standing there on the street and not really moving much. I looked around and saw the street getting speckled with pedestrians making their daily commute. I felt my face heat up from embarrasment and quickly followed Shinsou into the cat café.
As the doors closed behind us, the noise from the street outside was completely shut out, only the lingering sound of the bell filled the area. I took a look around, in the wall behind the counter they had cut out a circle and made water flow behind it, making everything feel more relaxing and welcoming. The carpet underneath our feet was matching the colour scheme, it had a gray tone to it and was very worn out, probably from people stepping on it and cats playing around on it.
Me and Shinsou walked up to the counter, an old woman greeting us, she had wrinkles beside her eyes, probably from smiling or laughing. Her dirty black hair had silver streaks in it and she seemed very at peace in the environment around her.
"Welcome! How can I help you two?" her voice was cheerful and she seemed genuinely happy to have customers.
Shinsou asked for a table and the old lady walked out behind the counter, she had one prosthetic leg, and she didn't seem to be slowed down by it, because her pace was relative fast as she took us to a table and took our orders.
I had ordered a cup of tea and something from the recommended section on the menu, Shinsou had only ordered a cupcake. When the orders had been brought out to us, he paid for both of our orders.
After the woman had left, I bit down on my lip, anxiously, "you really didn't have to pay-" I mumbled.
"Oh? No no, I wanted to. It's the most proper for me to pay, isn't it, Mo~chan?" he smirked when he called me by the nickname he had come up with.
I felt myself blush, "I-I guess.." then it struck me, it was the most proper for the man to pay during a date, but this wasn't a date, right? Yeah, definitely not a date-
Shinsou chuckled a bit and picked his cupcake up, turning it around in his fingers and inspecting it, as if he was looking for the best angle to take a bite.
Me and Shinsou continued to chat about random topics, heroes we admired, movie tastes, pets, etc. Shinsou had managed to catch the attention of a cat who was now sitting next to him, meanwhile another cat had taken a place on my lap, utilizing me as a temporary bed and source of warmth.
