one | silly meetings

IT HAD ONLY BEEN a couple of days since the big move across the country for Elara and her mother. Needless to say, the first two days had consisted of unpacking and ordering takeout. Although, the takeout situation would never fade- especially when the two were not the best cooks.

It had been day three and Elara was continuing the same nightly cycle once again. She stared at the pale ceiling, admiring the glow in the dark stars she had attached only a few hours before. They illuminated a lime green shade, something she oddly enjoyed.

She left her window cracked open just enough to hear the sounds of the city. That had been another thing she truly enjoyed, the busy streets, talking people, and birds cooing. Although, it was to her surprise when a loud siren began blaring through the rooms of their new apartment. She jumped, holding onto her chest at the sudden noise and then running to find her groggy mother swiftly hopping out of bed. She had then taken a moment to find the kitten, sheer panic running through her body as she searched. She called out her name, hoping that would bring her out from hiding quicker. Luckily, that had worked and she scooped her up in her arms.

The two had then both opened the door, finding tons of confused faces as they all exited down the hall. They were told to stand outside of the apartment building until the situation was figured out. There hadn't been a single sign of a fire, no smoke, no flame, nothing. This led Elara to believe that some prankster had pulled the fire alarm just for the fun of it.

"Who pulls a fire alarm at three in the morning for no reason?!" She huffed, pulling the meowing kitten closer to her chest as she wiggled around. Elara tried to comfort the kitten, knowing she had been anxious about the whole situation around her. They had found her on the streets in her last home, bringing her along on the move. But that had been very rough on her, not understanding where she was as they drove across the country. "Ouch!" Elara yelped, the kitten escaping from her arms and running in the opposite direction. "No, no, no." She mumbled, pushing through the crowd and searching the empty spaces of the sidewalk. Panic rushed through her as she couldn't find her sneaky pet.

"Eunoia!" She called out, turning heads as she continued her search. "Oh, come on." Elara mumbled, bumping into something and looking up swiftly.

"Uh- is this yours?" A boy that looked to be her age stared down at her, kitten held tightly in his arms. She huffed, rising up from the ground and sweeping the dirt off her knees. The kitten looked innocently at her, licking it's paw in pure contentment.

"Yes, thank you." Elara mumbled, embracing the kitten until she shunned her and sank further into the boy's arms. "Oh- of course." She groaned while the teenager in front of her chuckled in delight.

"It's 3 am, nothing is funny." The girl sighed, running a hand through her hair swiftly and peering down at the smug kitten.

"Well, uh- no offense, but who wears iron man pajamas?" He chuckled, pointing out the one thing he found oddly funny at three in the morning. He had tried to contradict her last statement and get a laugh out of her, but Elara wasn't having it. "Shut it, hello kitty boxers." She grumbled, the boy's face growing a bright shade of red. Luckily, for him at least, Elara couldn't notice in the dim light.

But a slight smirk grew on her face as she pulled the kitten out of his arms, following the directions of the workers. It had turned out that someone did pull the fire alarm for the fun of it, sending a rush of annoyance threw her. Elara made her way over to her mother, wrapping an arm around her as she looked back at the teenager. He waved, a smile on his face as she shook her head and moved on.
