Chapter 26: Christilia's First Fight

ℂhristilia tried to move but her hard impact with the ground left her paralyzed with pain, so she lay still and gasped for air trying to get her body working again. She could feel her Tokens on the ground next to her and hoped the hadn't shattered when she'd hit the ground. She really needed them, the tokens might be her only hope if she was to defeat Lunacy.

But first I need to find her!

She worked up the courage to open her eyes a little bit and look around, she could see houses burning, dust and ash floating on the wind, and rocks and debris covering the cobblestone streets. The usual beauty and shine had disappeared and the sent of wildflowers and mountain breezes had been replaced with stench of blood and fire. It was dark out and Christilia couldn't tell what  time it was.

Probably midnight...

She guessed. She spotted the outline of Gloria's body, bloodstained and motionless. She needed to get her to a hospital as soon as possible. Suddenly an ear-splitting roar sounded from across the street and Christilia almost yelped in surprise. Then a heartbeat later she spotted the tall figure of Lunacy walking towards her, yellow eyes glinting and orange dragon wings spread out menacingly. Blood trickled from the stump of her left ear and she grimaced every time her right leg hit the ground, but still she walked steadily closer, her long electric yellow horns began to glow and Christilia hoped she wasn't preparing to use them on her.  But Lunacy just walked slowly forward, her blue tail lashed back and forth, the pink spikes than ran from her neck to the tip of her tail stood on end, and her sharp teeth were bared angrily. Nothing happened.

And then to Christilia's horror she brought her bloodstained claws to her face and began to lick them clean with her long black tongue, staring at the queen all the while. Christilia snapped her eyes shut and clenched her teeth, trying to push down the bile rising in her throat, she couldn't let Lunacy see that she was scared. Lunacy grinned and her pupils slowly transformed into threatening slits, Christilia tried to look like a threat as well but her face didn't seem to want to change from an expression of terror to that of anger. She trembled and her heart beat faster and faster as Lunacy got closer and closer. Suddenly, Lunacy blasted the spot where she lay, but Christilia's body sprung into action and she rolled away just in time. She gasped and clenching her teeth and leapt up from the ground and quickly spun around mane whipping and eyes gleaming, ready to fight. Her limbs were sore and fragile but her heart burned with fury and she knew she held the power to protect El Turnia!

I hope...

Lunacy smiled showing off her sharp with fangs. Christilia threw herself at Lunacy, then flew straight into the night sky just in time, she quickly rammed her back legs into the top of the draqonecuus's skull. Lunacy crumpled to the ground holding her head and yowling in pain. Christilia dove from her new found place in the air, grabbed Lunacy with her purple aura, flew up once more than dropped her and kicked her backbone, hard. But instead of crashing to the ground Lunacy thrust out her wings before the impact and swooped into the air in front of Christilia.

"Nice try!" she hissed, her voice full of anger.

"Yes, yes it was." Christilia replied coldly.

They hovered in the air for a long time, Christilia's amethyst purple eyes glaring at Lunacy's neon yellow ones, and the only sound was that of the ruckus going down below. Christilia tried to stop her wings from shaking, both from cold and fear, her mind screamed for her to attack but she still just hovered and waited. Time passed and slowly the moon that had once been outlining the tall turrets and stone walls of the castle behind Lunacy with a silvery glow was suddenly shrouded in clouds and all became impenetrably dark. The pitter-patter of raindrops started to sound all around them and Christilia could feel her coat slowly begin to soak up the small amounts of liquid falling from the sky. The rain fell heavier and heavier and the occasional crack of thunder could be heard over the screams from the villagers far below.

I have to help them! But... how?

Then as the sky rumbled, the lightning crashed, and the rain thundered down, Christilia knew what to do. She dove. She dove down towards the ground, hooves outstretched, eyes almost shut in an attempt to block the water from hitting her them, her  ears back, her mane was waving, and her wings were spread. The rain bore down on her and the sound of thunder rang in her ears, then underneath the noise she could her the sound of wingbeats. Not feathered wings like hers but.... dragon wings! She spun her head around and saw Lunacy diving after her, a look of both confusion and understanding on her face. Christilia didn't know if she had figured out what she was trying to do yet or if she was following in an attempt to make sure it wouldn't happen.

Sometimes in your short human lives there may come a time where you have an idea. It's an undecided idea, where you're not basing it off fact, but of hope. Hope that it will work, because this idea is kinda you're last resort and if that idea fails... the world will be taken over by a magical maniac wanting revenge on ponies that did nothing wrong. So you get the point Christilia's idea had to succeed. Christilia whipped her head around once more and immediately turned it round again, Lunacy was gaining on her! She beat her wings, struggling against the raging storm that surrounded her, her vision was constantly blurred by the ever-falling rain and the wind unsteadied her wings making her drop and swoop around awkwardly. She knew she could easily cast a spell to stop the storm, but she didn't have time and besides if her plan failed, she'd need all the power she held to fight. So the rain poured on, never ending over the cobblestone streets and the grey stone castle walls. Christilia went back to the hunt, searching the ground, panicking, until she found what she was searching for. The small crater that she had created when she hit the ground, she breathed a quick sigh of relief and swooped down beating her worn out wings and—

"GOTCHA!" Lunacy roared over the sound of the storm.

The draconequus kicked Christilia in the side throwing her off balance and towards the ground. Christilia caught herself quickly and soared up, doing a barrel roll in midair and spun around, flying towards Lunacy. Lunacy unsheathed her shining claws and flew towards Christilia with incredible speed. The collided and rolled, locked together in battle, horns blazed, claws flashed, and Christilia felt herself begin to become weaker with exhaustion and pain. Taking Christilia's sudden weakness to her advantage, Lunacy slashed her claws over the queen's right eye.

"Aaauuggh!!" Christilia screamed.

Blood gushed from the claw marks and trickling down her cheek like red tears. She closed hers eyes trying to block out the pain, it didn't help.

C,mon Christilia, you got this just keep going!

She breathed deep and plunged down towards the crater. Lunacy growled and tore after her. Christilia started running just as she touched the ground and galloped to where the Tokens Of Peace lay on the wet ground.

Christilia scooped them up in her hooves, just as Lunacy flew down a ways away from where the queen sat.

"Oh, so you think you're pretty little rocks are gonna save the day." she laughed dryly. "Trust me it won't work. Do you seriously even know what they do?

"There's only one way to find out!" Christilia replied.

She whipped around, and levitated them in the air in front of her with her horn.

"Help me!" she whispered.

She thrust them towards Lunacy, expecting them to shoot rainbow lasers at the smirking dragonequus.

Nothing happened.

Christilia stared dumbfounded.

Lunacy smiled viciously.

"What'd I tell ya?" she said icily. "They didn't work."

She suddenly lunged at Christilia, claws outstretched, and jaws parted in a snarl.

Then something happened nopony would ever know how to explain.

The Tokens glowed and suddenly a bolt of light shot from them so bright Christilia shut her eyes and waited. The light flared growing brighter and brighter until even with her eyes shut the light almost blinded her. And then as suddenly as it had come it stopped. Christilia slowly blinked open her eyes and squinted as light shone down from the sky. The sun had risen! Christilia had never been more glad to see the sun. She smiled and let the it's rays caress her face making her feel warm, safe, and oddly bubbly inside.

"What happened next?!" I asked sitting straight up in bed. "What did the Tokens do to Lunacy??"

"You'll find out when the nurse says you can go outside again." Christilia said, smiling mischievously.

"Seriously?!" I said, frowning and flopping back down again.

"Seriously." she replied still smiling. "Now I suggest you try to get some sleep, you're body still needs to rest."

"OK 'mom'." I said and still frowning closed my eyes and fell deep asleep.
