Chapter 4: Awkward family reunion
After the whole El Tigre fiasco, Shiro was seen back at the motel bandaging himself.
Shiro: Damn it! Those claws left scars on my body. Oh well, hopefully, it won't be noticeable. Now I need to take care of my housing problem because I only have enough money to stay one more night and I have to leave.
Shiro sighs as he misses his own bed and his family. Shiro then pulls out his pocket watch and looks over it.
Shiro: Mama, Dad, I am sorry for leaving you. I am sorry you can't see me anymore.
Shiro said, trying to fight back the tears as he was alone. No one to comfort him, no one to tuck him into bed and say good night.
Shiro: I miss you two, and I wish you were here.
Shiro then finishes bandaging himself and then grabs a shirt, and then lies down on the bed staring at the ceiling.
Shiro: I need to find a job. Hopefully, something will pop up.
Shiro then grabs his blanket and falls asleep.
The Next Day
It was a new day for Shiro as he walked down the street.
Shiro: Okay, Shiro, time to find some work.
Shiro then goes and checks the newspaper to see if any job opportunities were available for him. Shiro checks the newspaper and checks the job openings. Shiro reads the job openings, some of them needing to be an adult while the younger ones seem to need a parent's permission.
Shiro: Damn, this is not good.
Shiro said, looking worried as none of the jobs in the newspaper would allow him to work underage. Shiro kept looking through the newspaper until he found a delivery boy needed for the post office.
Shiro: This could work.
Shiro then looked up the address and headed, hoping he could get the job.
Shiro: Today is going to be different. Watch out, Miracle City, because Shiro Shun is on the prowl.
Shiro continues to head towards the address.
10 minutes
After walking through the city, he made it to the post office. He then headed inside, where he sees an older man with gray hair with glasses reading a newspaper.
Shiro: Uh, excuse me, Señor, is the position for the delivery boy still open?
Shiro stares at the older man, who puts the newspaper down and looks at Shiro.
Older man: Aren't you a little young to get a job, Chico?
Shiro: Yes, sir but please, I really need this job.
Shiro looks at the older man desperate, which the Olderman thinks about for a moment before sighing.
Older man: Kid I will give you a shot.
Shiro: Really!
The older man nodded and got up from his chair.
Older man: Follow me.
Shiro nods and follows the man to the back of the post office. Once in the back Shiro sees there were a lot of packages.
Shiro: That's a lot of packages.
Older man: Oh don't worry these are for the postman. Yours are right there.
The older man then points to a bike with a cargo wagon.
Shiro: Okay, I can handle that.
Older man: You say that now. Now you better be careful, Chico. Miracle City is a spicy cease pool.
Shiro nodded as he had already been in a few scuffles in this city.
Shiro: I understand, sir.
Older man: Good now allow me to introduce myself. My name is Carlos Garcia. What's yours, Chico?
Shiro: The name is Kenshiro Desierto Arevir Shun or Shiro.
Carlos looks at him, surprised hearing his last name.
Carlos: Your Japanese?
Shiro: Yes, my dad is Japanese, while my mother is Mexican.
Carlos just nods and opened the garage, and Shiro was given a helmet.
Carlos: Okay, your job is to make sure all those packages are taken to their destination. Also, make sure they sign for the package.
Shiro: Got it, Señor Carlos.
Shiro then puts on the helmet and starts pedaling out of the Post Office.
Miracle City
Shiro was seen riding the bike at fast speeds on the streets. Shiro keeps riding through the city and makes it to his first house. Shiro then looks at the address and heads to the house.
Shiro: Okay, this seems to be the place.
Shiro then walks over to the house and knocks on the door. As Shiro waits, the door opens, and a woman wearing a suit is seen opening the door. Shiro sees the woman had green eyeliner and green nail polish.
This woman was Carmelita Aves, Zoe's mother. Carmelita looks at Shiro, who had a package with her and on it.
Carmelita: Finally, my package shows up.
Shiro: Please sign here.
Shiro said, pulling out a pen and clipboard. Carmelita grabs the clipboard and signs for her package. Carmelita then hands back the clipboard, and Shiro was about to leave when he sees Zoe coming out of the door.
Shiro: Zoe!
Zoe: Shiro!
Carmelita: Shiro? Mija, you know this delivery boy?
Zoe nods at her mother and smiles at Shiro, to which he does the same.
Shiro: If you're wondering how I know your daughter, Mam. Well, she gave me a tour of the city a few days ago. As well as helping her out.
Zoe: More like saving me from those matones. Who you taught them a lesson.
Carmelita stares at Shiro, surprised that he saved her daughter.
Carmelita: You're the boy Zoe was talking about that saved her?
Shiro: Yes, that's me. It was nothing. I was just doing what was right. There was no way I would let them hurt her. By the way, I can see where Zoe gets her good looks.
Carmelita giggles at Shiro's compliment.
Carmelita: My such a charming young boy.
Shiro: My mother always told me to treat women and girls with respect. Anyway, Zoe, we are still going to hang out right?
Zoe: Of course. How's this Friday work at the Mayan Arcade?
Shiro smiles and nods and then looks at Carmelita.
Shiro: I hope you are okay with letting me hang out with your daughter Miss-
Shiro was then cut off by Carmelita.
Carmelita: Just call me Carmelita. After saving my daughter, I wouldn't mind letting her hang out with you.
Zoe: Really, mama?
Carmelita nods, and Zoe hugs her mother. Zoe then lets go of her mother and turns to Shiro.
Zoe: So, see you Friday?
Shiro: Definitely, anyway, I got to continue my deliveries.
As Shiro was about to leave Zoe's house, Carmelita pulled out some money from her purse and gives it to Shiro. Shiro looked at the money and was shocked.
Shiro: Why are you giving me money?
Carmelita: You saved my daughter's life, and that deserves a reward.
Shiro just looks at the money before looking back at Carmelita.
Shiro: Are you sure? I mean, I was just doing the right thing.
Carmelita: Still, you saved my daughter, and I want you to have it.
Shiro smiles and waves goodbye before riding off on his bike. Once gone, Carmelita smiles as her daughter has a friend. Carmelita then sees her daughter smiling at Shiro while constantly staring at him.
Carmelita: Mija, do you like that Shiro boy?
Zoe instantly blushed and shook her head.
Zoe: W-W-What! Mom, I only knew him for a few days, and he is my friend.
Carmelita: Mija, that doesn't mean things can't change.
Zoe thinks about it for a moment before blushing a moment.
Carmelita: Zoe it's okay. Just give it time and if you truly have feelings for Shiro then tell him how you feel.
Zoe: Si, Mama I will.
Carmelita smiled and pats her daughter's head.
Downtown
Downtown Shiro kept riding on the bike and was seen smiling as he was having a good day.
Shiro: Can't believe Zoe's mom gave this much money. I should treat Zoe when it's Friday.
Shiro kept pedaling faster and checked the bike bin and saw he had one package left. As Shiro kept pedaling, the sounds of people in terror could be heard. Shiro stopped pedaling, and as he did, he saw a giant monster attacking the city.
Shiro: Madre de Dios! Does this city always get attacked by giant monsters?
Shiro then quickly looks around and sees an empty alleyway. Shiro peddled to the alleyway and then got off his bike. He then pulls out his pocket watch and opens it before moving the hour hand forward. Shiro's body is then engulfed by a black light and transforms.
El Gato: El Gato! Okay, time to kick some monster butt!
El Gato made cheetah leg constructs and ran toward the monster. As he got closer, the giant monster was seen ready to destroy a building.
El Gato: Not on my watch!
El Gato creates puma claws and starts climbing the monster and then jumps into the air and slashes the two monster's left eyes, blinding it. The Monster yells in pain and gets mad. The monster uses its tentacles to grab El Gato but the cat superhero cuts them to shreds as he created puma claws constructs to cut them.
El Gato: Take that!
El Gato then uses his claws to slash the monster's eyes on the right side making it blind while El Gato grabbed its horns and used all his might to slam the monster to the ground. The monster then crashes to the ground and cracks the street. The monster was knocked and defeated and El Gato smiled as it was over.
El Gato: Now, to get out of here.
As El Gato was about to leave he heard something coming behind and turned around and his eyes widened in shock. Standing before El Gato was White Pantera, the legendary superhero of Miracle City but El Gato's Tío.
White Pantera: El Gato, surrender now and allow me to help you walk the path of heroism once again.
El Gato's thoughts: Tío Rodolfo! This is not good. If he finds out who I am under the mask. He might try to contact my parents. I need to get out of here.
El Gato then created Cheetah Leg contracts and started running away. White Pantera saw him trying to flee and chased after him.
White Pantera: El Gato, please let me help you.
El Gato's thoughts: I am sorry, Tío Rodolfo but you can't help me. No one can.
El Gato had sad eyes as he was running away from another member of his family. El Gato continued to run while White Pantera continued to chase him but as they kept running, both stopped as they saw a building on fire. Both saw civilians screaming for help. El Gato jumped into action which surprised White Pantera but he soon joined him in getting the people out of their burning building.
Both El Gato and White Pantera quickly got everyone out of the building before it finally collapsed. The people cheered at the two superheroes.
White Pantera: So it seems you being turned into a supervillain was a lie. No villain would ever risk their lives to save these civilians.
El Gato: I am a hero White Pantera but I do things my way.
White Pantera frowned upon hearing that.
White Pantera: El Gato you have the makings of being a great hero but you acting like a villain is not good.
El Gato: I am evening the playing field. Villains don't fight with honor. Why should I?
El Gato frowns at White Pantera and then tries to leave which the Veteran superhero tries to stop him, only to be Judo throwed into a dumpster.
El Gato: Sorry, White Pantera, but I do things my way.
El Gato quickly leaves the area which White Pantera gets out of the dumpster which has some garbage on him.
White Pantera: Santa Maria, the child is skilled. El Gato, I will not give up on you. I can see you still have heroism in you and I plan to help you keep walking that path. This I swear!
Suddenly the dumpster was suddenly lifted into the air and the hero and the contents inside were then transferred into a garbage truck that then went to the dump.
With Shiro
After defeating the monsters and rescuing the civilians from the burning building Shiro was seen riding around town delivering his last package.
Shiro kept pedaling his bike and as he kept going he saw a building that said Casa Del Macho.
Shiro: Well, this is the address now time to deliver this package.
Shiro then walks into the building and uses the elevator to head to the address and once he got there he saw a giant house.
Shiro: Wow, I didn't know there was a house on top of this apartment complex. Well enough admiring time to deliver this package.
Shiro then walks to the front door and knocks on the door. Shiro then waits at the door which the door then opens.
Shiro: Hi there my name is Shiro and I am here to deliver-
Shiro stops talking and standing in front of him is his cousin Manny Rivera.
Manny: Shiro?
Shiro: M-M-Many.....Hey, how you been....
Shiro feeling awkward seeing his cousin after not seeing him for a while since they were eight years old. Manny smiles and hugs his cousin which Shiro smiles back and embraces his cousin.
Shiro: It's been far too long. So how have you been?
Manny: Great, get this, I am a superhero or supervillain still deciding.
Shiro: Really, I mean I get Grandpapi is Villain and Tío Rodolfo is a hero why not try finding your own path maybe you find out what side you choose.
Manny smiled at his cousin's words before getting excited.
Manny: Hey, want I see my alter ego?
Shiro: Sure, also what do you-
Shiro then cuts off as he sees his cousin transforms into El Tigre.
El Tigre: El Tigre! Pretty cool right Shiro.
Shiro just stares at his cousin for a moment before punching him on the head.
El Tigre: OWW! What was that for?
Shiro: For trying to waste me with the blue hair chick!
El Tigre rubs his head before his eyes widen.
El Tigre: Wait, you were the hoodie kid I chased?
Shiro: Well thanks for stating the obvious Captain Obvious! Yes, I was the hoodie kid minding my own business until my own freaking cousin tried to waste me!
El Tigre: Shiro I am sorry I didn't-
Shiro: Seriously, what were you thinking?! You would go after someone for defending themselves from the blue hair witch?
El Tigre then gets mad at his cousin.
El Tigre: Hey, that is my best friend, Frida!
Shiro: Best friend, what kind of friend would make you cross a line to hurt someone for defending themselves? Tell me, if it wasn't me who you attacked, would have changed anything?
El Tigre was silent, which Shiro took as his answer.
Shiro: Manny, you're my cousin. That is a fact. Whatever side you choose, I won't hold it against you but be ready to deal with the consequences. Anyway, I got to go, so can you sign this?
El Tigre nodded and signed for the package. Shiro then gets ready to leave before El Tigre stops him.
El Tigre: Wait, where are you going?
Shiro: Need to head back to the Post Office to tell my boss I finish all my deliveries.
El Tigre looks at Shiro before nodding and then changing back to his civilian form.
Manny: Okay, well, I can't wait to tell Dad and Grandpapi you are in town.
Shiro: Manny, I would like it if you didn't tell them.
Manny looked confused as to why his cousin didn't want to meet the rest of their family.
Manny: Is there a problem, Shiro? You love seeing them.
Shiro: No nothing at all I just wanted to make it a surprise.
Manny: Oh well, it's too late for that.
Shiro was confused until he hears footsteps he turns around and he sees Grandpapi Rivera.
Shiro: Grandpapi......
Grandpapi Rivera: Shiro!
Grandpapi Rivera hugs his grandson which gives a small smile and hugs him back.
Shiro: Long time no see Grandpapi. Also, can I have my wallet back?
Grandpapi: I did not take your wallet.
Shiro let's go of Grandpapi grab his hat and shakes it to reveal his wallet as well as other stolen goods. Grandpapi shyly shrugs his shoulder but Shiro laughed and hugged his grandfather.
Grandpapi: Still sharp as ever. One of these days you make a fine supervillain. Also, what brings you to Miracle City is also how my niece is doing.
Shiro: I will think about grandpapi. Also, I just wanted to visit and Mama is fine.
Grandpapi smiled as he loved Shiro's mother like she was his own daughter.
Grandpapi: I should give Esmeralda a call. She must be happy sending you to Miracle City
Shiro: Actually, my mom has been pretty busy since she became a singer in Japan. So I can call and tell her okay.
Shiro looked a bit nervous as he hoped his grandfather would drop it.
Grandpapi: Why thank you, Shiro. Anyway, are you staying for dinner?
Shiro: Sure, Grandpapi, just let me head back to the post office, and then I can join you.
Grandpapi: Excellent, I will tell Rodolfo you are coming.
Shiro then sighed as this was going to be a hard day. Shiro then waves goodbye and leaves the house once gone White Pantera was seen coming into the house all covered in garbage. Both Grandpapi and Manny were shocked to see him in that state.
Manny: Dad what happened?
Grandpapi: Also, can you please take a shower?
White Pantera: I will father and my son the reason I smell like garbage is because I encountered El Gato.
Both Rivera's eyes widened hearing El Gato.
Grandpapi: I knew it! He is a villain!
Manny: Dad you got beaten by El Gato!
White Pantera: Yes son and father no he is a hero he stopped a giant monster and helped me save a bunch of civilians from a burning building.
Once again, both Riveras are shocked.
Manny: Wait he stopped a giant monster and helped you save citizens?
Grandpapi: Yet, you smell like Señor Chapi's bird cage?
White Pantera: Oh the reason for that is he tried to run away and I tried to stop him, but I underestimated his skill for one so young he is highly skilled.
Manny then remembers the encounter with the cat superhero and remembers getting demolished by him.
Manny: I knew El Gato was good, but I didn't think he could take you, dad?
White Pantera: Well that was due to my carelessness. Now I must take a shower and prepare dinner.
Manny: While you do that dad you might want to make another plate.
White Pantera looked confused as to why he need to make another plate.
White Pantera: Is Frida coming over for dinner?
Manny: No, Shiro is coming.
When White Pantera heard Shiro he instantly squealed with glee.
White Pantera: My nephew is coming to dinner but how come Esmeralda did not tell me he is visiting.
Manny: Shiro said he wanted to surprise us. Anyway, you better get ready, he will be coming soon.
White Pantera: Of course!
White Pantera quickly went into the bathroom to shower.
Manny: Man, I can't wait for Shiro to come for dinner.
Back with Shiro
After finishing his delivery, Shiro got the job from Señor Garcia. Now he was heading back to his cousin's house, nervous as he was going to meet his family again.
Shiro: Man, this is nerve-wracking.
Shiro then makes it to the house and knocks on the door. As he nervously waits the door opens and standing before him was his Tío Rodolfo.
Shiro: Tío Rodolfo, how have you been?
Shiro looked at him nervously before being pulled into a hug.
Rodolfo: Shiro, it has been so long since I have seen you. You have grown so big and macho.
Shiro: Thanks Tío Rodolfo. So can I come in?
Rodolfo: But of course now come on in.
Shiro then walks inside the house and then follows his uncle to the dining area where he sees a feast of food. He then sees his cousin and grandpapi.
Manny: Shiro you made it.
Grandpapi: Take a seat and tell us how your mother and you have been doing in Japan?
Rodolfo: What about Kento?
Grandpapi then frowns hearing Shiro's father.
Grandpapi: Yes, the man who took my little Esmeralda!
Rodolfo: Father Kento is a great man who loves Esmeralda.
Grandpapi: She stayed in Japan instead of coming back to Miracle City!
Shiro: Grandpapi, do you not like my dad?
Grandpapi looks at his grandson and sighs.
Grandpapi: Shiro, my boy. Me and your father have a shaky history but know this I still love you Shiro. It's just my issue is only with him.
Shiro: What did my dad do to make you not like him?
Grandpapi: My boy this is not the time to talk about that. After all, coming to Miracle City is important so tell us how Japan is.
Shiro felt nervous talking about Japan but nodded
Shiro: It's pretty cool. I mean the lights and people having fun, it's all good. I mean, living in Osaka is like a huge party.
Manny: Really, then we should head to Osaka and party!
Shiro chuckled at his cousin but then sighed.
Shiro thoughts: I want to go back, but how can I after what I did?
Rodolfo then sees Shiro looking sad and asks him a question.
Rodolfo: You okay Shiro?
Shiro: Yeah, I am fine. Anyway, we should start eating before the food gets cold.
Everyone agreed and started eating dinner. As they ate, Shiro smiled, and it was nice spending time with family again.
