Chapter 1- Schmitty
3 years later- Spring
The smell of fumes infiltrates his surroundings as if the fuel had engulfed the air. The sound of a loud boom, of a suitcase that had probably fallen from its hold, makes Schmitty clutch his seat tightly as he closes his eyes. They had been in the air for 15 minutes and if it was up to him, he would keep his eyes closed and a tight grip on his seat for the whole flight, but the sound of laughter catches his attention. Schmitty hesitantly opens his eyes an inch, to peer at the redhead looking back at him with pure amusement in her demeanor.
Although she was amused by his fear of heights, he couldn't stop himself from appreciating her beauty; how the blue long-sleeved jumper fell right below her shoulder, revealing some tattoos but not all, was tight but also loose enough for it to sway along with the wind. One leg is crossed over the other allowing him to see she had matched her outfit with black pumps. He scans her face, the blood-red hair is collected in a high ponytail, while wide sunglasses hide those intense ocean blue eyes he had fallen in love with. Her nails are perfectly manicured and painted black; her right hand is holding a wine glass halfway filled with the purple substance while her left-hand plays with the diamond necklace on her neck, twirling it around in her fingers. Her ruby stone earrings twinkled just like her smooth caramel complexion, under the little sunlight that entered the plane's window.
She takes off her sunglasses and narrows her eyes at him, the blue in them glow as if unlocking a new level to a game, "What?"
"You look beautiful," he tells her without a moment's hesitation, making her smile at his compliment. She releases her necklace and places her hand on his chin, guiding his lips to her maroon painted ones.
"You don't look so bad yourself," she tells him as she admires his well-tailored suit by running her fingers through the side of it. He was wearing a black tuxedo with a blue tie, matching her outfit. They were both dressed rather elegantly for the place they were headed to, but it was their style.
The plane dips a little, causing Schmitty to re-close his eyes and take a deep breath. His hands had turned a pale color from the tight hold he had on his armchair.
Her laugh pierces through his ears once more, popping the built-up air the plane had created. He feels a hand in his and relaxes a bit as he opens his light green eyes to look at her.
"Are you drinking wine?" he asks, to which she responds by looking at the drink as if barely noticing it.
"Seems that way," she tells him in a bored tone; swishing the liquid in the cup, tilting it to the very edge, and back up. "Do you want some? Might calm your nerves."
"Whiskey," he breathes out. "Whiskey will calm my nerves."
She gives him a sly smile before calling the flight attendant. "Hello miss, how can I help you?" A tall skinny brunette with big round glasses covering her chocolate eyes asks. She was wearing her flight attendant outfit; a light blue shirt, a white skirt, a small tie, and a name tag that read Amy.
"Hi- Amy- I'd like a cup of whiskey. Neat. Please," Nikki says.
The flight attendant looks confused for a second but then speaks, "Of Course. Can I just see your ID first?" Nikki looks up at the flight attendant, holding her gaze, analyzing her. "Please," the flight attendant adds nervously; being under Nikki's watchful eye would make anyone more nervous by the second. Nikki looks at her wine cup and takes a sip, watching the flight attended through her peripheral vision.
"Ma'am, your ID- please," the flight attendant repeats, clearly oblivious to the fact that Nikki had already ordered a drink before so there wouldn't be a reason to show her ID again.
"Baby- Just give her your ID," Schmitty says in an exasperated voice. Annoyed that the only thing that could calm him down was being put on hold.
"NO," Nikki says as she outstretches the O.
"Nikki- just do it," Schmitty says more firmly.
Nikki just stares at her and rolls her eyes at Schmitty, "How about you give her your ID," she says in an annoyed tone.
"Ughh," Schmitty sighs and rolls his eyes, but nevertheless stands up and reaches for his wallet in his pocket, pulling out his ID and handing it to the flight attendant.
"I saw that," Nikki tells him.
"What?" he asks as he shrugs his shoulder at her.
"That little eye roll you did," she hisses at him.
"Baby-" Schmitty starts but is stopped by the flight attendant.
"Here you are Mr. Hawthorn," the flight attendant says as she hands him a drink and his ID back, glaring at Nikki. Nikki narrows her eyes at her, as she walks away from them. Nikki looks over at Schmitty and watches as he places a white substance in the drink before chugging it down. He can hear the tap of Nikki's heel against the chair and sighs, knowing she was planning something.
"You know, I should teach her a lesson for pulling this little stunt on me," Nikki says, tapping her foot faster as she stares ahead of her, watching Amy. With a sly grin, she speaks, "As a matter of fact, I'll be right back."
"Wait. Nikki-" Schmitty stops her.
"Yeah?"
"You have to plan this out first."
Nikki sits back down as she nods her head. "You're right. What kind of guy do you think she's into? Dark, young, or extremely smart?" Nikki inquires of Schmitty. At her words, Schmitty starts counting his fingers, lifting a total of three of them, one for each guy.
"Wait- who's extremely smart. They're all very smart. Is it Aaron?"
"Yes. Callum is dark and handsome, Quin is young and cute as a button, and Aaron is extremely smart and adorable."
"Seems like you have an adjective to describe all of them based on their looks," Schmitty says, a hint of jealousy in his words.
Nikki laughs at this. "Trust me," she says, gliding her hand on his thigh, "I have a few different words to describe you."
"Oh- like what?" he says, raising an eyebrow and shifting in his seat as Nikki strokes his thigh.
She removes her hand from his thigh and moves it to his chest, leaning closer to him, and whispers, "Like- Sexy," she says and plays with his belt buckle. "Mysterious," she continues unbuckling his belt, "dangerous," at that point, she has completely unbuckled it and then scoots back, giving him a grin that leaves as quickly as it appeared.
"Ahem," Schmitty clears his throat, clearly affected by what had just happened."Is that so?"
"Yup," she says, popping the P.
"Well in that case- I'm not sure. Send all three of them- see who gets lucky."
"That was my plan to start with," Nikki reprimands.
"Okay," is all Schmitty responds as he starts buckling his belt again. Nikki rolls her eyes and walks to the front of the airplane, putting her plan in motion.
Schmitty turns his attention outside the window and closes his eyes, trying to take a calming breath. Everything is okay Schmitty. You will not die on this airplane. You will not die today, he tells himself. After a few minutes, he feels the presence of a body and opens his eyes to see Nikki glaring at him.
"Are you still mad at me?" he asks her, stroking her arm.
"Me- mad- no. What do I need to be mad about?"
"Because she was an idiot and I didn't say anything but just complied," he tells her.
"She was, but don't worry- Karma is already taking care of things," she tells him with a wide smile.
"You do know we can't bring attention to ourselves right?"
"I'm not an idiot- love," she tells him in a condescending tone and smirks as she looks out into the aisle to see three different guys flirting with Amy.
"So are we okay?"
"We're better than okay," Nikki tells him.
"How much longer do we have to be on this flight for?"
"Schmitty, it's barely been two hours."
"Yeah- but we don't live that far from where we're going."
"We live seven hours away from our destination."
"Righttt," Schmitty says, dragging out the t. "Hey, Nikki- ever have sex in a small and dingy place?"
She looks over at him as she finishes her wine and smiles, "Yeah- you know I have."
"Would you like to do it again?" he asks her, raising a questionable eyebrow.
"I don't think your nerves could handle that," Nikki responds with a laugh as Schmitty shoots a dagger at her through his eyes but then laughs as he takes out a small bag with the white substance and shows it off.
"I think they'll be more than fine."
