The story narrates the lives of two sisters, Duha and Sara Chaudhary, who live with their grandmother (Biji), great grandmother (Badi Biji), in Rishikesh.
Duha, the sweet and righteous elder sibling, is a school teacher in a neighbouring school, and Sara, the carefree and rebellious younger sister, has just passed college. Biji plans to get Duha married and receives an alliance from the Vadehra family from Chandigarh. Sara is initially apprehensive of this as she knows the sweet local doctor Armaan is in love with Duha but eventually agrees when her sister sides with Biji despite having feelings for Armaan.
Mohsin and niall Vadehra meet Duha and Sara and Mohsin, a lawyer, falls for her. A very gentle and righteous man similar to her, he soon wins her heart, and they are married. Niall and Sara, both the pranksters of their families, immediately hit it off, slowly developing feelings for each other.
The sisters struggle with separation when Duha leaves for Chandigarh, and Sara is soon diagnosed with cancer. The Chaudhary are reluctant to reveal this to either Duha or the Vadehra family. On a family picnic, Duha meets with an accident. Mohsin asks Sara to donate her blood, but she refuses this leaves Mohsin and Niall both angered and confused about why she is declining. Niall takes Sara away from the hospital and confronts her, and breaks their friendship. She is forced to reveal to Niall why she cannot donate her blood to her sister. Unaware of her condition, Mohsin forbids Sara to meet Duha and reaches Chandigarh with an unconscious Duha. Niall supported Sara and decided to take her to Chandigarh. Troubled, Sara reaches Chandigarh, and the family, later , get to know about her condition. Duha takes Sara to Mumbai to further pursue treatment. Sara successfully recovers, and in the process, Niall and Sara grow closer and are engaged. On the day of the engagement, Sara learns that her Mumbai treatment was unsuccessful, and she has two years to live. For her treatment to be successful, she needs a bone marrow donor. Duha's bone marrow matches with Sara, but she is unable to donate because she is pregnant. Duha and Mohsin decide it would be right to abort their child to save Sara's life. After all, Sara is Duha's first child. Sara refuses of getting Duha's bone marrow because she does not want her to abort her child. Sara goes to court to stop Duha with yuvraj fighting from Sara's side and Mohsin fighting Duha's. Later Duha lies to the family that they found another donor whose bone marrow matched with Sara's to get the treatment done. Duha aborts her child and secretly donates her bone marrow to Sara with the support of Mohsin.
The family later faces more obstacles due to Mohsin's professional rival ranveer sending an imposter to their house. Niall and Duha are falsely imprisoned, but Sara and Mohsin manage to prove them innocent. Niall later moves out to prove himself as a successful singer, and Sara follows him. The sisters' estranged father raman also makes an appearance, and Sara forgives him and helps him reconcile with the family.
Duha finds out she is infertile due to having donated her bone marrow to Sara, while she was pregnant the first time, and they opt for surrogacy with the help of a woman vedika. Meanwhile, Sara is also pregnant and reunite with the family. Mohsin helps Vedika get away from her abusive husband, abhimanyu, and vedika leaves her child with them. Duha names her daughter saha while sara names her daughter dura The show ends on a happy note with the whole family together.
