Sydney, Australia.
Khushi walked nervously through the corridors, everything was so different here, colleges in Australia were so different from the ones in India, everything was just so different so hard to understand, to make it worse she dint know even one person here that could help her around.
As she continued walking trying to find her class, she noticed how everyone around was staring at her and that just made her feel a bit self-conscious.
"Hey gorgeous, are you lost?" Some random guy jumped in front of her blocking her way, she just tried to ignore him and walk away but he wouldn't let her go, it was frustrating, why was he up to bullying her on her first day here?
It was already hard enough for her without him bullying her, now it was like one more problem added to her list. Why had her life taken a sudden turn and changed so much? It was hard to adjust.
"Let her go." She heard a voice from behind her and before she knew it, another guy came in and pushed the guy that was harassing her away, he just frowned and walked away angrily.
"Are you okay?" He turned around to look at Khushi, she just stared at him blankly, she dint know whether to thank him for his help or to appreciate how freaking hot he looked.
I mean have you watched movies and series? You know those hot guys with blue eyes that look like a dream? Yeah, he looked like he was just out of a fairytale movie.
He was dressed just like a normal teenager and blue washed jean and white tee topped with a black jacket and he looked kinda cute with some light beard on his face and his messy brown hair, not someone people would get scared of yet, he managed to scare off that guy.
"Yeah, thanks for your help." Khushi smiled faintly.
"No worries, I'm Jake, and you are?"
"Khushi."
"Well nice to meet you Khushi, next time just punch the guy on the face yeah?" He said as he walked away leaving her mesmerized, it wasn't like she was attracted to him or anything, he was just so good looking, it was hard not to stare.
She continued walking around for a while until she finally found her class, she walked inside and settled down, there were a few students seated around minding their businesses, she picked a corner and settled down there.
She then pulled her phone out of her bag and decided to text Arnav, it was eight o'clock here so she figured he might be on his lunch break.
"Miss me?" She typed.
"Too much, can't stop thinking about you. I keep on staring at your pictures and then end up missing you more. Come back please?" a text popped up immediately.
"I wish, I don't like it here without you either."
"Somedays I feel like crying because I miss you too much, is it normal?"
"Totally normal." She giggled as she pressed the send button and the looked at the door as it had opened, the lecturer had just walked in so she placed her phone aside, got her books out ready to concentrate in class.
The students kept coming in while the lecture was going on, a few minutes later, a girl walked in and came to sit beside her.
"How did you do it?" She whispered to her.
"I'm sorry?" Khushi looked at her in confusion.
"I saw Jake talk to you, how did you... I mean what did you do to get him talk to you? We all keep trying but most of the times he just ignores us." The girl said.
"Us?"
"You're new here you wouldn't know, I mean are you blind or something? That guy's freaking hot, of course girls are interested, he just keeps ignoring them all, he might have talked to a few but that was it."
"Well, I dint... he just helped because a guy was harassing me." Khushi replied.
"Oh... well too bad, I thought he was finally showing interest in a girl, we all think maybe he's gay." She giggled.
Khushi just smiled awkwardly not knowing what to say.
*****
"So what did you do today?" Khushi asked.
She was seated outside in the afternoon on one of the benches after her classes were over with her laptop placed on her lap as she talked to Arnav on the video call.
"Nothing much, classes as usual, I met Suman but she wanted to be alone so I was just alone as usually then Saira came, remember the girl I told you about? So I just hanged around with her, we're like becoming friends." Arnav said.
"Oh... okay that's good."
"Have you made any friends so far?"
"Not yet, it's just my first day, I think it's going to take a bit longer than that." Khushi giggled.
"You seem worried, is everything okay babe?"
"Yeah... just, when I came in the morning some guy was harassing me, it wasn't anything serious but I got scared for a moment. I really don't like it here Arnav." She pouted.
"Such people are everywhere Khushi, next time just tell him not to disturb you or slap him or something, if you don't stand up for yourself, they would keep disturbing you." Arnav said to which Khushi just laughed.
"That's what Jake said, I should punch him or something."
"Oh... who is Jake?"
"I don't know, some guy that studies here, he helped me when the other guy was harassing me. He's cute." Khushi smirked.
"Then stay away from him." Arnav pouted.
"Already jealous?" Khushi laughed teasing him.
"I'm kidding, I trust you babe. Just love me always, please."
"Of course, I love you, always will." She smiled.
"I love you too, now I've to run, Padmini aunty has called me five times for dinner, if I don't go she's going to come to my room and drag me."
"Okay, talk to you later."
"Bye babe." Arnav winked at her as he turned the call of and headed to have dinner, Khushi too, shut her laptop and put it in her bag, Rudra was supposed to come pick her up, she had been waiting for him for over half an hour now yet he hadn't shown up.
"You okay there?" She saw Jake walk towards her out of nowhere.
"Yeah I am, thanks for asking." Khushi smiled, he sat down beside her on the bench and looked at her.
"What?" She laughed as he was staring at her.
"You... you look like you're scared of someone or something. Is it about that guy earlier today? You shouldn't worry about him, that's his usual, he isn't harmful." Jake assured her.
"It's just that I am new here, to this college, to this country so I have no idea how thing happen here, I don't even know anyone here so just wondering if I'll be able to adjust."
"Of course, you will, Australia is a beautiful country, you'll get the hang of it in a few months and when you do, you wouldn't want to leave. Also, now you know me, if you need any help you can ask." He smiled at her.
Khushi just stared at him remembering the words of the girl that was talking to her in class, she said he wouldn't talk to any girls despite them trying so hard, here she wasn't even trying, so why was he talking to her?
"What are you thinking now? I am not some creepy dude, chill I wont kidnap you." He laughed.
"Why are you talking to me? I mean not in a bad way, some girl just told me you don't talk to them and stuff." As soon as she finished the sentence Jake laughed out loud and she just looked at him still confused.
"I don't talk to them because I am not interested, I know what they want and that's not what I want. I am not a dating or relationship kind of a person, for now at least so that's why I ignore them.
With you, you're already in a relationship with someone so I know you wouldn't want anything like that to do with me, and you really looked like you could use a little help and generally I am a nice person." Jake replied.
"How did you know I was in a relationship?"
"You were on a video call, I saw you talk, of course I dint see the person you were talking to but just the look on your face, I can read people sometimes. So, let me guess, long distance?" he asked.
"Yeah." Khushi nodded.
"I've heard long distance are usually difficult and they end in a bad break up always."
"Well, that's a different case, it's for people that have been intimate you know... Arnav and I... it's different, the furthest we have gone is kissed." Khushi laughed at how she was being so open about her relationship to a guy she had just met, but that was the beauty of being in love with someone, you just can't stop talking about them right?
"Cool, then I hope your long distance works out." He smiled.
"Thanks. For now and for helping me earlier today."
"Don't worry that's literally my job here, that guy keeps harassing so many girls, I don't even remember how many times I've punched him for it, but he doesn't change."
"Oh so you save the damsels in distress." Khushi laughed.
"Yeah, kind of my thing. Anyway I'll head to class, if you need any help, I'm always around." He smiled as he stood up and walked away, well somehow, she did manage to make a friend on the first day here, maybe things weren't going to be as difficult as she thought.
