Chapter 2

Mates at the time weren't hard to find in that time period. Amare, the goddess of mates, was very just when putting two people together. Given the circumstances at the time, she knew that many people wouldn't be able to move far from their families. And along with Sors, her husband, she was able to see what their future would be like. She would then create a bond between two people when they were born. Many times, Amare would mate royals together, due to the fact that she knew they would meet up at one point.

"Avellana, I believe I am done with all your chores," Marigold says, as she walks into the room, where Avellana was lying on the bed. "Oh Marigold, thank so much for doing them for me. I really would have done them, but your dear brother put me on bed rest," Avellana says, laughing a little at the last part. "It's okay. I really don't mind it, honestly" Marigold says, pulling up a chair next to the bed. "So how is my nephew doing?" she asks, looking at the little bundle that Avellana was holding. "I don't know the next time I am going to get a good nights sleep," The new mother laughs, as she looks at her baby. "You don't mind if I hold him, do you?" Marigold asks, looking at her sister-in-law. "Not at all," she says, handing the baby to the young girl. Marigold looks down at the baby, moving the cloth to see the babies face. The babies big blue eyes looked up at her, a curious look on the babies face. She smiled down at the baby. She knew she wanted kids for sure, but she wanted to wait to her mate. "He is such a beautiful baby," she murmurs, as she lightly runs her fingers on the babies cheek. "Yeah, especially his eyes. Aren't they just the prettiest blue," Avellana says, as she looks at Marigold, "I swear he get's them from your brother." Marigold laughs, shaking her head, "You don't know that. His eyes might change to your green eyes. Many times, the babies eyes change colors after a while." "I hope his eyes don't change. I love the color of his eyes now," Avellana says, looking at Marigold. She laughs, and nods, handing the baby back to his mother. "So Marigold, how has life been going since the last time I saw you?" Avellana asks. "I am doing well. I am helping my mother and father out on the farm. I believe Elton is helping my father with selling the grain today out at the market," the young girl says, as she looks at her friend. Avellana nods. "Have you found him yet?" Avellana asks. "Who..........Oh! No, not yet," Marigold sighs, resting her head in her hand. "You will find him, don't you fret your pretty little head," Avellana says, rubbing the girl's arm. "I know, I just.........I have been looking all over for him. I can smell him, every time I an close to him. Usually near the palace," Marigold says. "Ooooooooh! Near the palace?" Avellana says, like a younger girl. "Yes. He is most likely just a servant. And I pray to Amare he isn't a criminal," she says. Avellana nods, not saying anything.

Suddenly the sound of the door opening and closing reached the girls' ears and caused the baby to cry. A male figure, with shaggy blonde and hair, and a slight beard came in. "And what are you two girls talking about?" Elton asks as he walks over to the girls. "Mates," Avellana says, looking up at her husband. He smiles, sitting next to her on the bed. "And how is our little Ashton doing?" Elton asks, scooping the baby up from his wife's arms. "Good till you came home," she says.

The man rocks the baby back and forth, causing the baby to calm. "He is calm now," Elton states, as he looks at his wife. "Okay, well, when you opened and closed the door you caused him to cry," Avellana says.

"So how was the market?" Marigold asks. "Twas a good market day. Father and I made a pretty good amount of coins today," Elton says, as he looks at his son. "That's good. Did father by any chance get something for me?" Marigold asks. Every time her father went out to the market, he would bring her something back, like some soap, or a candy. "I believe he did. Though you will have to go see for yourself to find out," Elton replies, a sly smile on his face. Marigold's light up as she stands from the chair. "Avellana, I was nice catching up, but I must return home," She says, smiling sweetly. "Okay, thank you for helping me out again," Avellana says, smiling back at the girl. "Bye Elton," Marigold calls as she walks out the door.

Braxton ran through the woods in his wolf form. After trying, and failing, to reason with his father, he went out for a run in his wolf form. This always allowed him to relieve stress. As he ran, did the one thing he knew he should never do. He left the royal grounds. Though he understood why he had a limit, it never satisfied him when it came to running. And since his father was already restricting him so much, he decided he would break one rule.
Just as he reached the border, he stopped and looked. While it looked fairly normal, there was a magical border around the castle. He remembers when he first heard the story of the border. It was said that his great-grandfather had called a witch to come to and surround the kingdom and then the castle with an invisible shield to protect the people. His father told him that there was a great battle between this kingdom and another. This kingdom won, but so many were lost that he wanted to protect the people from another threat. So he asked a witch to put a magical boundary around the kingdom, as well as one around the castle.

He stepped out of the boundary, and a rush of relief went through him. He turned back to look at the castle before he sped forward, running through the forest. He was running for a little while before he smelled something. It didn't smell bad, in fact, it smelled amazing, but a smell never stuck out to him so greatly like this smell. He shifted, his royal attire still on him, and walked in the direction of the smell. He sniffed that air, closing his eyes to get a direction of where the scent. Braxton followed the scent, still staying in the trees. The scent was close, he could smell it. He quickly turned his head in the direction when he saw the most beautiful girl ever. Her hair was golden and fell down her back in very messy waves. She wasn't as supple as other princesses he had seen, but to him, she looked better like that. She was dirty and sweating, but he didn't care. He thought she was gorgeous. Just as he was going to go up to her, she was called in. "Marigold!" A woman called out. The girl turned her head, "Yes mother?" She called, looking over at the house. "Supper," the girl's mother replies. "Coming!" The girl with the golden hair, turned her head to face the woods as if she saw something. Braxton knew she couldn't see him, but he felt as if she was looking right at him. Her eyes were a light blue color, like some of the stones his mover wore, or the color of the sky. Her lashes were long, and her face was in a heart shape. And seeing her face made him just fall for her more.

The girl turned back to face the house and walked off the field. She walked into the house, leaving Braxton all alone in the forest.
