feet on the ledge

looking at the fall below us.

"You can survive this," I say.

You were terrified.

Then, something pulled me down,

I don't know what.

I looked at you

and saw you falling in too.

You grip my hand so tight that

I thought it was my responsibility

to help you crawl out this bottomless darkness

I've been done with before.

Into the abyss, we were falling,

a hundred kilometers per hour,

and I knew first hand

how painful the ground would be

when we'd finally reach it.
