Chapter 4

It was the beginning of the semester and you were nervous as hell. During times like this, you would always call your parents to calm your nerves and that's exactly what you did. You dialed your father's number and he answered within a few seconds.

"Hello, my precious daughter! How are you?" he asked. He was still in his bed and you knew that if he stayed there past 6:30 AM, he would surely get his ass beaten by your mother.

"I'm nervous! Today's the first day of class. I'm just waiting for my roommate to finish and then we'll go together," you answered.

"What are you nervous about?" your father asked gently. "You have always been doing well since the beginning. This is just a piece of cake to you. There's nothing that you can't handle. You'll make a lot of good friends, people will surely like you. If you're worried about your grades, remember you don't have to stay on top all the time. Just focus on your studies, enjoy your youth, but not too much, and most importantly you are not---"

"Allowed to have a boyfriend until I'm forty, yes I know that. Thanks, Dad!" you smiled at him. Talking to him for a short while made a lot of difference your mood and you didn't feel as nervous as before.

"If you need us, we're always ready to listen to you, okay? We love you so much."

"I love you both!"

"Do you want to talk to your mother? I'll hand her the phone."

"I would love to but I don't want to be late on my first day. An hour is not enough for her litany."

"You know your mother so well. Alright then, good luck and take care. Your mother will surely get jealous that you called me."

"Please, I don't want to argue with her. I'll get going then. Bye! I love you!"

You hung up the call and shoved your phone inside your white tote bag. Right on cue, Giselle emerged from the bathroom.

"Who are you talking to?" Giselle asked. "Is it your boyfriend?"

"No, it's my father. I talked to him because I was nervous. I would have introduced you to my parents but we can't risk being late. I'll just do it when they come over," you told her.

"It would be an honor," Giselle replied and curtsied to which you giggled in response. "Your parents seemed nice and you're pretty close. I would love to meet them. I'll introduce you to my parents, too, once they decided to move their lazy ass and visit their beautiful daughter."

"Their beautiful daughter will surely have a long line of guys waiting for her," you said.

"And so are you!"

"Yeah, no. My father will beat them up. I am not allowed to have a boyfriend until I'm forty. My father is dead serious about it."

"What? Here I thought we could hangout with the handsome dudes from our department!"

"Who says I'll pass up the opportunity." You smirked at Giselle and she gasped at how evil your mind works. You high -fived each other and left the dorm, going to NeoU for the first day of class.

You and Giselle had different courses so you went your separate ways to go to your respective buildings. You made sure to bring your map with you just in case you get lost, which wasn't impossible because of how huge NeoU was.

"See you at lunch! I'm going to text you when my class is over," Giselle said and gave you a farewell hug.

"Let's meet each other at the cafeteria," you said and hugged her back before bidding her goodbye. Now that you're alone, you suddenly felt anxious. It didn't surprise you when you lost the ability to read the map because you were overwhelmed with negative emotions. You hated being alone in an unfamiliar place, let alone dealing with strangers.

"You're reading the map upside down," someone spoke behind you and you turned around. It was Doyoung wearing his adorable gummy smile. He was wearing a plain white shirt and dark jeans and you discreetly inhaled his unique and manly cologne. He snatched the map from your hand and turned it upside down before handing it back. "There. Now, you will not get lost."

"Thank you, Mr. Doyoung!" you thanked him and bowed. He was surprised by your action and tried to stop you.

"Please, just call me Doyoung. I assume you're a freshman, what's your name and course?" he asked.

"My name is (Name) and my course is (your desired course). Thank you for helping me," you answered, even though all he did was rotate the map.

"Woah, I'm from that course, too. Do you need help or anything? I can take you to your classroom if you haven't found it yet."

Kim Doyoung was an angel sent from heaven, there's no doubt about it. Just when you thought you would make a fool yourself trying to navigate your way to your destination, he came to save your sorry ass from being humiliated and of course, from being late.

"May I know what year you are this school year?" you asked Doyoung, trying to start a conversation. You felt awkward by just walking beside each other silently.

"I'm a third year right now. You can ask me if ever you need my help in any subjects or if you encountered any problem with your professors. Helping my juniors is my duty as a senior."

You were in awe by Doyoung's passion. He always put his one hundred percent effort with whatever he was doing. He's handsome, kind, considerate, a responsible student with a sense of justice and leadership, you seriously couldn't find any flaw in him.

You might have just had a crush on him on your first day. It was nothing to worry about in your part because it was all just an attraction. You arrived in front of your classroom, noticing that there were still a lot of vacant seats which made you happy because you could choose a seat where you could concentrate.

"Thank you so much!" you thanked Doyoung once again.

"You're welcome," he gave you his trademark smile. "See you around." He turned around and walked away, boys and girls following his track with their gaze.

You entered the classroom and sat in the middle where you could both listen intently to the professor and doze off unnoticed.

You looked around and observed, your classmates all looked smart and intimidating and your inferiority complex kicked in. You knew that college was different, there's no use in competing against each other but somehow, you couldn't get rid off of that overcompetitive side of you. Perhaps in time, you would learn to tone it down.

For the meantime, you brought out your books from your bag, pretending to read it even though you couldn't understand a thing. You just wanted to make an impression.

Students came filing in and soon, almost all the seats were taken. Someone carelessly threw their bag on the table on your right. A young man plopped down on the seat beside you and you discreetly stole a glance.

It was a man with brown hair and honey skin. All of a sudden, he turned to your side, giving you the opportunity to look at his face. He had a pair of innocent looking eyes, a slim nose, and full cheeks. He looked bubbly and intimidating at the same time. He gave you a warm smile which you found weird because nobody's trying to strike a conversation with anyone.

"Hello! My name is Lee Haechan!" said the guy cheerfully. He was extroverted and you didn't know if it was something to be thankful for or not, but you decided to go with the flow for now.

"I'm (Name)," you answered and gave him a small smile. He nodded before smiling once again, then looked ahead.

Small talks made you nervous, but not talking to a person next to you made you feel awkward as well.

A minute later, a middle aged man entered the classroom. There was an air of authority surrounding him, as he carried his books in one hand, his other hand tucked inside the pocket of his beige trousers. He put the books on the table and scanned the classroom, studying his new batch of students.

He's so handsome, you thought to yourself. You silently hoped that his class wouldn't be so boring.

"Good morning, students. My name is Leeteuk and I will be your professor for this subject. I hope that all of you enjoyed your last vacation as a high school student, because now you're in college, you will have little to no time to rest. I am not scaring you, I'm just letting you know the fate that's been waiting for you. You might hate me for giving too many tasks, curse me even. It's okay, I had been teaching for ten years now and I'm used to that. Just remember that this is all for you."

"He talks too much," Haechan whispered beside you which surprised you but didn't show.

"I'm just hoping that he wouldn't give us a task on the first day," you whispered back and Haechan chuckled. He realized you had a point.

Professor Leeteuk was explaining about the outline of the subject when the door burst open and you saw two tall figures standing outside. Because of their sudden interruption, all eyes were on them. You found it rude that they just opened the door without knocking but Professor Leeteuk didn't show any signs of anger or frustration.

"Yes, gentlemen? Do you belong in my class?"

"Yes, professor. Sorry for being late," a familiar deep voice replied.

"It's all good, all good. Now go find a vacant seat so I can continue."

The newly arrived students entered, and the first thing you noticed was how handsome they were. You weren't the only who was in awe with their visuals because the whole class was staring at them.

"Damn! Are they models or something? Look at those long legs," Haechan commented.

You didn't reply. Your eyes were glued to the one who was wearing a blood red shirt.

Gone was his eye-catching silver hair. It was now dyed black. You remembered that he was reprimanded by Doyoung during the orientation because of his hair.

Silver-haired Na Jaemin was drop dead gorgeous but Na Jaemin in his natural hair color made him ten times hotter. You couldn't look away. He and his company which you didn't know, found a seat in the front.

"Why did they sit in the front? They're as tall as trees!" Haechan whined beside you. "Hey! Don't tell me you've been captivated by them?"

"What? Of course not! I couldn't see anything, they're tall," you said.

Haechan was wrong, you weren't captivated by them. Your eyes were only glued to one person, and it seemed like he didn't see you.

It was horrible enough for him that you two met each other in the same city and went to the same school, how much more if he found out that you're his blockmate.

"Good! They're mine," Haechan replied which earned a chuckle from you. You're starting to like Haechan's silent commentary and personality overall. Everything he was saying sent you to a fit of muffled laughter. He was effortlessly funny.

Luckily, Professor Leeteuk didn't give any tasks on the first day. The bell rang, and it was time for your next class. You brought out the school map and weaved your way to the sea of students to the chemical laboratory since you had Science as a minor subject.

When you got there, almost all the seats were taken. You were surprised by how fast the students got in. You were looking around to find an available stool when you felt a tug on your arm. You turned around and saw a kind looking girl with small face and big eyes, sitting in the corner. She smiled at you and pat the available stool beside her.

"You can sit here," she said.

"Thank you so much," you told her. She was so beautiful like a flawless animation, it's hard to believe she's real. You noticed that some of your classmates were also looking at her.

"My name is Karina Yoo. What's yours?" she asked.

"Oh, I'm (Name)," you answered. You put your tote bag on the table and that's when you noticed the person sitting across you.

It was Jaemin.

Sitting beside him was his friend who was late to Professor Leeteuk's class, another young-looking guy, and the one with an innocent-looking face. Beside Karina was a girl with brownish-blonde hair with blue tips (you wondered how she got away from it), and a girl with dark brown hair with sparkling eyes and supple cheeks.

"Are we doing introduction now?" the young-looking boy asked innocently. "My name is Mark Lee," he said. He nudged the boy beside him.

"I'm Huang Renjun," he gave all of you a sweet smile and you couldn't help but smile back.

"I'm Ning Yizhuo, but you can call me Ningning," the girl with supple cheeks said and you thought she was adorable.

"I'm Winter Kim," the girl with the blue-tipped hair said. Her voice sounded elegant.

"I'm Karina Yoo."

"I'm (Name)."

"I'm Lee Jeno," Jaemin's friend spoke and smiled, his twinkling eyes forming a crescent shape. He had a mole beneath his right eye and he resembled a cute animal. You just couldn't figure out what.

Finally it was Jaemin's turn.

He looked as if he was high or he was occupied in his own world.

"I'm Na Jaemin," he introduced himself, his deep voice penetrating the anticipating silence.

"That's it!" Mark said cheerfully. "It's nice to meet you all!"

You all smiled at him. After a short while, the awkwarness enveloped your group once again. You didn't know why but it's always awkward to talk to someone your age.

Fortunately, your Science professor entered the laboratory. Everyone was in awe at the person who entered. The class burst into murmurs and one of your classmates took the courage to say the whispers out loud.

"Professor, you're so beautiful," he said. You were shocked when you saw who it was.

Lee freeking Haechan.

Why weren't you surprised?

"Thank you," the professor replied and gave him an angelic smile. Haechan was probably convulsing after that.

She had a perfectly symmetrical face and all of her features complement each other, making her look like an angel. She was also tall with a model-like figure and when she spoke, her voice was soft and feminine.

"My name is Im Yoona and I will be your professor in this subject for the whole semester."

The class erupted into cheers and you noticed that even Jaemin was suppressing a stubborn smile that's tugging on his lips. Even he found Professor Yoona extremely beautiful.

Maybe he likes mature and older women, you thought to yourself. Jaemin was all grown up, he had a type now.

As for you, you were thankful that you got accepted in NeoU. The professors and students you met were all good-looking.

"I would like to inform you all that whoever you are sitting with on your table will be your groupmate for the whole semester," Professor Yoona informed and she proceeded to explain the rules in her laboratory as well as the requirements needed for the semester. Meanwhile, all you could think about was the first statement she said before your mind wandered to the man sitting in front of you.

He didn't want to do anything with you, hell he would do anything to stay from you, but fate kept taunting him. The more he tried to increase his distance from you, the more fate attempt to do something to bring the two of you closer.

Under the table, he tightly gripped the hem of his shirt and Jeno didn't miss it. He looked worriedly at Jaemin then stole a glance from you. You weren't listening to the professor talking in front, just staring into space thinking about the things you should do so Jaemin would remember you.

When the bell rang and the class ended, Jaemin sprinted out of the lab, Jeno trailing behind him. They stopped under the shade of a large tree, Jaemin panting heavily as he tried to suppressed his growing frustration.

"I should move out of this city," Jaemin declared.

"You're not being serious are you?"

Jaemin turned around and faced Jeno, visibly upset. "Why does she have to be in the same city where I moved in? Why does she have to attend to the university I am attending?"

Jeno gave a comforting pat on Jaemin's shoulder. "Look, I know how frustrated you are right now, but this isn't her fault, not yours either. Just stop running away from her. Nobody here has no idea of who you are or what happened to your past. I know that I don't deserve to say this but maybe, you shouldn't try so hard to cover it up. The only thing you should do at the moment is keep a low profile and not attract any attention to yourself.  "

Jaemin took controlled breaths as he contemplated about Jeno's advice before heaving out a sigh and nodding. Jeno put a comforting arm around his best friend as they walked towards their next class.

However, there was only one flaw in Jeno's advice.

Even if they wanted to keep a low profile, attention would follow them everywhere when they were that drop dead gorgeous.
