Chapter 20

"First, she smudged Karina's lipstick, then burned the hem of Ningning's skirt, and now she cut the photocard on Winter's newly purchased album. Good thing none of those items were extremely expensive. I think we have enough evidence to confirm her intentions," Giselle updated you while both of you were eating ice cream at the living room.

You were spacing out the entire time, still couldn't get that scenario out of your head. You didn't know why you felt so miserable. It's not as if your boyfriend cheated on you or anything, but it hurts a lot.

"What's the progress with yours?" Giselle asked.

"Good," you answered blankly.

"How good? Tell me the details," Giselle said.

However, she was surprised when a single tear cascaded down your cheek, followed by another until your shoulders were shaking. You were sobbing uncontrollably now and Giselle hugged you.

"What's wrong?" Giselle asked softly.

"I don't know... I don't know why I'm feeling like this... I'm not supposed to be hurting this way..." you answered in between your sobs. You felt pathetic crying over something that you were not supposed to be concerned about. You proceeded to tell Giselle everything that you saw and she listened to you. By the time that you finished your story, you already stopped crying and your eyes stung.

"(Name), have you assessed your feelings?" Giselle asked. "Take your time to understand what you truly feel or it will haunt you every day. Because I don't think this is an ordinary situation for you. I think you like him, (Name). You sincerely like Na Jaemin."

For the first time, you didn't contradict the idea. You let it sink in and processed your emotions. You wouldn't be hurting right now if you didn't harbor any special feelings towards him. But the question was when did you start feeling that way?

"You know, you don't have to follow the plan anymore. We have enough evidence. All we needed is to confront Nayoung," Giselle said.

You wiped your face with a tissue and fixed yourself. "No. I'll still do it. I have already started, might as well finish it. We still have to gather tangible evidences and only then can we confront her regarding the whole sabotage thing she's been doing."

I'm strong. I shouldn't cry over a guy. This is so stupidly embarrassing.

"And oh, did I mention that the seven boys are planning to reveal the identity of the person who posted our picture? I heard that they're trying to get a hold of the person who runs the page," you explained then stood up. "I'm going to sleep. I still have a lot of things to do tomorrow."

It was partly true, but what you really wanted to do was lie down on your bed and close your eyes until you lose track of time. You wanted to be there until you feel okay but that's impossible. You were afraid of the morning to come. You were too terrified to confront your own feelings. You had never felt this way before. Or maybe you did, but you were too ignorant to pay attention to it.

Damn, I don't wanna live anymore, you sulked. It took you a good long hour to fall asleep. You buried the worries in your mind. One thing at a time, you told yourself. It's overwhelming for you if you try to process everything all at the same time, so you convinced yourself to deal with things as they come your way.

The following days went on smoothly with you spending an ample amount of time with Doyoung. It was mostly about the necessary preparation for the upcoming festival. It also helped you to distract yourself, however, the overwhelming emotions would rain down on you all at once whenever nighttime comes.

Luckily, Nayoung's radar didn't miss your frequent interaction with Doyoung. She was aware. She was watching.

"Is there anything else that we missed?" Doyoung asked you one late afternoon. Doyoung was busy with his academics and yet he still managed to fulfill his duty as the department's President. He made sure to participate and you updated him with everything.

"You need to sign this budget so I can give it to Professor Yoona tomorrow. It's for the sound system, the catering services, and the chairs and tables we're going to use," you explained and handed him a copy. He read it silently then proceeded to sign the paper.

"Thanks a lot, (Name). You're really efficient like you're cut for this job. Everything is so detailed."

"Thank you. It's actually my first time doing this kind of work. It was difficult at first but I finally got the hang of it," you said. Of course, you didn't mention how the task almost drove you nuts, there's this one time when you almost wreak havoc in your dorm when one page of the report went missing only to find it underneath the mess you made on your work table.

"I was wondering if you still have some things to do after this?" Doyoung asked.

"Nothing urgent. Why?"

"Well, I wanted to treat your for dinner since you helped me a lot. I know a good place."

After you organized your stuff and made sure that all the documents to be submitted for tomorrow were in place, you were ready to leave with Doyoung. The two of you walked past a bench where a couple were sitting, but they're not a couple, nowhere near there. They're Nayoung and Jaemin.

Jaemin was bored to death listening to Nayoung's stories and he was thankful when she finally stopped. He thought it was over, but he was wrong. She only got distracted.

"Isn't that (Name) and one of your sunbaes?" Nayoung asked and pointed behind Jaemin. He turned around and saw you and Doyoung just exited through the front gate. He saw you laughing about something Doyoung had said and he instinctively clenched his fist.

"That girl..." he said in a deep voice and he was so mad but he couldn't explain why.

"I noticed that they've been spending a lot of time with each other," Nayoung said.

"Are you stalking (Name)? Why do you know a lot about her? Besides, they're not actually hanging out. (Name) is the acting secretary of our department and she keeps our sunbae updated," Jaemin defended you. Before he noticed it, he had said too much.

"I was just saying that they're spending a lot of time with each other. How come you know?" Nayoung asked.

Jaemin couldn't help but roll his eyes. "I literally belong in that department."

He was ready to snap and ready to leave her when she said something that made him stop.

"Let's follow them."

Jaemin was in awe on how Nayoung was literally obsessed about everything that you do. He noticed how she was so updated about you and then try to ruin your reputation to him. You lived in her mind rent free. And as much as Jaemin hated Nayoung's company, he was curious about where you and Doyoung were going so he went along with Nayoung.

You reached the diner Doyoung was talking about. It's a vintage-themes restaurant with a cozy ambiance. The circular tables were covered in white table cloth and the center was decorated with a vase of red roses. There were several people in the restaurant talking in hushes voices and you heard jazz music playing in the background.

Doyoung walked towards the table near the window and pulled a chair for you. You thanked him and a waiter approached you and gave you the menu.

"These are all so expensive," you commented as you scanned the menu, most of it had five figures. "I can't afford anything except water."

"Didn't I tell you that I'll pay for it?" Doyoung reminded you.

"But isn't this too much? You could've brought me in a less expensive diner. At least I can eat the food without crying about the price."

"You'll be crying about how delicious the food is once you have a taste," Doyoung said and winked at you.

Right on cue, Jaemin and Nayoung entered the diner and he saw Doyoung winked at you. His nose were flaring as he was taking aggresive breaths to calm himself down. Both of them made sure to blend in with the crowd and found a table where they could see you. When a waiter gave them the menu, Nayoung gasped.

"Gosh, all of the food are so expensive! So Kim Doyoung is that kind of boyfriend," Nayoung said.

Jaemin snapped. "Who said they're dating?"

"Why would he bring (Name) in an expensive restaurant with a romantic setting?"

"Romantic? You call this romantic? If romantic for you means eating in a dark restaurant with jazz music then you gotta upgrade your standards," Jaemin said. "Besides, Doyoung treats everyone who helps him. He did the same to Jeno a couple of times," he added and he couldn't believe that he would actually defend Doyoung about his intentions.

"Would you do the same? To your female junior, just the two of you?"

This is a fucking trap. She's playing mind tricks on you. Jaemin reminded himself. If there's one thing he learned about Nayoung, she's cunning as a fox.

"Why do you always put your nose on (Name)'s business? I thought you hate her? Don't you think you're being a bit too obsessive right now?" Jaemin asked as he leaned towards the table, his hands clasped together. Nayoung was taken aback by his question.

Before Nayoung could give an answer, the food they ordered arrived. She was puzzled by the way Jaemin acted towards her. He usually tolerated her by being silent and giving a few occasional nods as a response. But now he's speaking in long sentences with straight facts she couldn't counter.

And they thought they successfully concealed their presence among the crows, but they're wrong. After all, Jaemin was notably attractive that your eyes wouldn't miss such a gorgeous person with a strong sex appeal.

The moment you heard Jaemin's familiar voice somewhere, you immediately searched for it and instantly found him not far from your table with a witch sitting across him. You were not sure if it's just a coincidence that they happened to be there but it was perfect nonetheless. The restaurant was quite far from NeoU and there were no familiar faces around that you could recognize aside from the two.

Your heart twisted at the sight of them together. You wondered if they're really dating, but that's really none of your business.

Get a grip of yourself. You have other matters to deal with. Jaemin reminded himself but his eyes wouldn't leave you. He was curious as to what you and Doyoung were talking about and you seemed engrossed in the conversation. It made him wonder if the topic was really interesting. From across him, Nayoung was just as intrigued so he took the chance.

"Nayoung," Jaemin called. "Can I ask you a favor? May I borrow your phone? I'm just going to contact Jeno."

"Sure," Nayoung answered absentmindedly, unlocked her phone using her fingerprint then handed it to Jaemin.

Jaemin excused himself and went to the men's bathroom.

"This is invasion of privacy. I'm not supposed to this," Jaemin mumbled to himself. "But if we're dealing with the devil then I might grow a pair of horns myself."

He immediately went to the gallery app to search for the picture from his yearbook but he didn't find it. Instead, he saw screenshots of your posts and the other girls as well. He took a picture of those on his own phone, scoured every application on her phone but found nothing. He even discovered her other Instagram account but nothing proved that she was the one who posted the yearbook pictures. He gathered all that he found nonetheless, with the hopes that it would be helpful someday.

Meanwhile, you were purposely raising your voice because you knew Nayoung was listening.

"Oppa, we're really lucky to have you in our department. You are very hardworking," you said.

Doyoung almost choked on his food when you called him 'oppa'. You internally cringed as you tried to make your voice sweeter and high pitched.

"Thank you. You're just as hardworking. I really hope you'll run for the campaign someday and become the department's next President."

"I would love to follow your footsteps."

"No, no. You can do better than me."

"No, oppa. I think you're perfect," you said and batted your eyelashes at Doyoung who was slowly getting weirded out by your actions. It's just as difficult for you because you had never purposely flirted with anyone. "By the way, oppa. May I know what your ideal type is? I like hardworking and smart men. They're really challenging to deal with."

"(Name)? Are you okay?"

You pouted and crossed your arms. "I'm okay. I'm just curious. Did you know you're very popular among the girls? It makes me sad."

"What? Why?"

"Because I like you!"

Doyoung couldn't believe what he heard. Nayoung was also shocked. But the one who didn't expect it the most was Jaemin who just returned to their table after scanning every file and application on Nayoung's phone. The look of disbelief was written on his face as he tried to process what he just heard from you.

"Thanks... I guess?" Doyoung replied. It was obvious that you made it awkward and you wanted to die right on the spot, but when you saw Nayoung's expression from your peripheral vision, everything was worth it.

You weren't able to finish your food and Doyoung finished it for you. You felt bad for wasting such a delicious dish but you had lost your appetite. You were waiting outside of the restaurant while Doyoung paid for the dinner.

"Let's go. It's getting late. I'm going to walk you to your dorm," Doyoung said when he finally got out.

"Sunbae," you said, suddenly addressing him formally. All of the flirtatious act gone.

"Yes?"

"About earlier," you started, closing your eyes then bowing ninety degrees which surprised Doyoung.

"Hey! Hey, what are you doing! Stand up straight!" Doyoung held both of your shoulders. "Look at me."

You did what you were told.

"It's okay if you like me. But to be direct to the point, I'm not really interested to anyone at the moment. I'm sorry if I will reject your confession but I will not risk our relationship as a junior and senior. You are an amazing person but I don't feel any special feelings towards you. But I'm sure that you'll find a person who will treat you right." You saw pure sincerity in Doyoung's eyes and you felt bad for using him in your pathetic plan.

At least he rejected you instead of catching feelings, you consoled yourself.

"Actually about that confession. It's true that I used to have a crush on you. I mean, you're my ideal type. You're smart, kind, responsible, and drop dead gorgeous. I still admire you even now but not like that anymore. I just... I just had to do it. Besides... I like somebody else now."

You didn't expect the last part to come out of your mouth but you had already given it enough thought. Rejecting the possibility would be useless since your heart and mind act on their own accord. You felt relieved for saying it.

You expected him to be angry at you, to lash out at you for using him but it didn't happen. Instead he gently pat your head.

"I hope I was useful to whatever plan you're brewing," he said then smiled.

The same night, Jaemin went to Chenle's house with his temper on the verge of snapping.

"Where did you go? I've been calling you but you're not picking up," Jeno said as soon as Jaemin entered the house. Jaemin didn't answer but handed his phone to Jeno. "What's this for?"

Jaemin plopped on the couch and stole the slice of watermelon from Mark and took a big bite.

"That's mine!" Mark whined.

"Those are all the information I gathered from Nayoung's phone. I looked and searched at everything but I found nothing that would lead us to the identity of the one who posted our pictures."

"So it means she's not the perpetrator? You wasted your time following her?" Renjun asked in disbelief.

"I don't think he wasted his time," Haechan said while browsing the pictures. "Send these pictures to (Name)."

"Why would I?" Jaemin asked.

"Just do it! She knows what to do with these."

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"Because," Jaemin took a deep breath. "She confessed to Doyoung."

All the boys' attention were on Jaemin in an instant.

"For real?" Jisung asked and Jaemin nodded.

"Are you okay?" Mark asked and patted Jaemin's shoulder but the latter shrugged the former's hand.

"Why are you even asking me that?" Jaemin asked irritably.

"Of course you're heartbroken! Don't worry, you can move on. It might take years but time will heal your wounds. Every heartbreak teaches us an important lesson," Renjun tried to comfort Jaemin.

"Can you all just shut up?"

"Yes! I can finally tease (Name) tomorrow!" Chenle exclaimed and he was the only one who was celebrating.

"Jaemin," Haechan called him and he turned to him. "Don't be discouraged now. You'll be surprised to know the truth. Don't think too much about that little confession."

"What the hell are you even talking about? Do you know something that I don't?"

"Just send these pictures to (Name) tomorrow and you'll find out soon. We'll talk to Kim Jungwoo tomorrow and we'll find the real identity of the person who posted your pictures. At least now, Nayoung is cleared up."

Nayoung didn't know that she had a target behind her back. All she cared about was to ruin everything that made you happy.

"Let's take a break first. My back's killing me," Doyoung suggested as he stretched on his seat. You two had been working nonstop for the preparation of the booth since the exam week was just around the corner.

"Yeah, good idea. I'll buy us food, you can stay here and rest," you said and got up. You claimed your wallet from your bag and left the office.

As you were walking down the corridor, you remembered your jacket because it was drizzling outside. You jogged back to the office and saw that the door was slightly opened. When you peeked inside, you saw Nayoung sitting from across Doyoung. She didn't belong in your department and she had absolutely no business talking to Doyoung, and yet she found a way to talk to the guy you allegedly liked.

"The devil works hard but Nayoung works harder," you muttered under your breath before walking away. At least you knew that it worked and Doyoung wasn't awkward towards you.

You went to the nearest vending machine and bought bottles of banana milk, sandwiches, and chips for snacks. You didn't know what Doyoung liked so you bought what you could afford.

From the distance, Jeno and Jaemin spotted you.

"Look, it's (Name)!" Jeno exclaimed and pointed you.

"You're so loud! She might hear you!" Jaemin scolded Jeno but couldn't resist to look at your direction.

"Did you send her the pictures?" Jeno asked.

"Not yet," Jaemin answered. "You should do it for me. Please?"

"You're my bestest friend, Jaemin, but I won't. You need to resolve this matter on your own," Jeno said. "If you need support, I'll be right away. But probably kilometers away. You know."

"Thanks for being helpful," Jaemin said sarcastically.

"You're welcome. Now go before she leaves!"

Jaemin had no choice because Jeno pushed him and he almost tripped face first. He cleared his throat and mustered the courage to approach you. This would be your first conversation after more than a month of avoiding each other. He didn't know how to act because he was the one who pushed you away in the first place. Before he could mentally prepare for what's coming, he was already beside you.

"Banana milk, yes, got it--oh shit!"

Your heart almost dropped in shock when you saw Jaemin standing stiffly beside you. Good thing you didn't spill all the food you were holding. He was looking intently at you and you had no idea what's going on in his mind. You stepped away from the vending machine--thinking that he wanted to use it--and walked away but he called you.

"(Name)."

You turned around, visibly confused. Why would he talk to you after ignoring you for so long? Last time you saw him, he was at the restaurant having a dinner date with Nayoung.

"What?" you asked curtly, face void of any emotions.

Jaemin was taken aback by your behavior though he already expected it. "I..."

"What?"

"The weather is nice, isn't it?"

You looked at him, then to the dark, gray clouds, heavy rain threatening to fall. He followed your gaze and suddenly regretted saying it. He mentally punched himself for his stupidity.

"Do you need something?" you asked.

"Yeah, actually, Haechan told me to send this to you. He said you'll know what to do with this."

So he didn't approach me just because he wanted to, you thought, obviously disappointed.

He brought out his phone and walked towards you. Your heart started thumping. It was crazy how you stopped feeling like this when you two stopped talking. And after more than a month, the same feeling with the same person was back again.

He extended his hand towards you. "Give me your phone."

You rolled your eyes internally. "Still demanding," you grumbled and fished your phone in your pocket.

"Yeah, I'm demanding but I have something that you'll find useful."

You didn't reply and simply handed him your phone. He sent the files to you and handed your phone back.

"Tell me what they are because I obviously don't find anything useful about any of it. Aside from the fact that it's creepy and obsessive, I don't see why it's important."

While he was talking, you browsed at the pictures he sent and your jaw almost dropped while looking slide after slide.

"I know she's not the best person but I seriously don't get why she's so obsessed with--hey! Where are you going?"

"The tangible evidences..."

You didn't waste any second as you ran away and dialed Giselle's number. You didn't answer Jaemin's question and he was left confused.

"I clearly told her what the hell is that about and she went off running."

Right on cue, his own phone buzzed. He looked at the screen and saw Haechan calling. Irritably, he swiped the screen to answer the call.

"What is it? Be quick."

"We found the person who posted the pictures."
