Chapter 19

Jaemin was fuming mad when he drove to Chenle's house. Jeno was already there and he was eating a chocolate bar when Jaemin snatched it from him and took a big bite. He threw himself on the couch and chewed angrily. The sweet did so little to calm him down.

"What's wrong with you?" Jeno asked Jaemin and sadly looked at his chocolate bar with the missing half. "This is the only food I ate the entire day," he said in a sulky voice.

"This is bullshit!" Jaemin exclaimed as he ran a frustrated hand on his disheveled hair. Chenle appeared from the kitchen with a steaming pot of soup.

"Just tell me if you're planning to live in my house. You stay here every day," Chenle complained. He just didn't want to admit that he liked the company, especially now that Jisung spends more time with him than Sungchan. "What's with the long face?" he asked when he noticed Jaemin glaring angrily at the coffee table.

"Nothing!"

"Come on, tell us!"

The rest of the members appeared from the second floor and now gathered at the living room. Jaemin had been cornered and they were forcing him to tell them what happened.

"Tell us or I'll hit you with this spoon," Renjun threatened Jaemin, his short temper on the verge of snapping.

"It's Doyoung!"

"What's with our senior?" Mark asked curiously.

Jaemin closed his eyes and heaved a deep breath. He didn't want to talk about it but he had no choice since he already mentioned his name. He proceeded to tell them everything that he saw and for a moment, he forgot to put his guard up. He only realized what he had said when all his friends were giving him taunting looks after he finished his story.

"What?" he asked.

"Na Jaemin," Haechan started and casually draped an arm around Jaemin's shoulder. "Don't tell me that you're jealous?"

"The fuck!" Jaemin forcefully removed Haechan's arm and the latter only teased him more.

"You like (Name), don't you?"

"I don't!"

"I thought I was the only who think that they have a chemistry," Chenle said. "I thought at first that you two are dating."

"Really? Jaemin and (Name) are dating?" Mark asked, surprised, and all the members gave him a dirty look. He wasn't paying attention at the conversation at all and he only heard the last part of what Chenle said.

"Mark, just eat please. My blood pressure is rising," Renjun told Mark.

"Speaking of our sunbae, I approached him earlier and asked him who manages the official page of NeoU," Jeno said. "He said that the admin is Kim Jungwoo."

"Did you say Kim Jungwoo?" Chenle asked and Jeno nodded. "I know him. He's in the Mechanical Engineering department. He's a model and quite popular among the students. Jisung should ask him tomorrow."

"What? Why me?" Jisung asked, visibly surprised at the sudden involvement of his name.

"Why not?"

"I'll ask him," Renjun volunteered because he was slowly growing angry at the unnecessary bickering of the two.

Jaemin crossed his arms and tried to erase in his mind the situation he had witnessed, but it seemed like the more you try to forget something, the deeper it is etched on your brain. As much as he hated the fact that Doyoung could help them in their problem, he had no choice.

Meanwhile, Karina was sorting some files alone at the faculty when Nayoung approached her.

"Hi, Karina!" Nayoung greeted her. Karina turned around and was surprised to see Nayoung but she immediately hid it behind a pleasant smile.

"Hello, Nayoung. Do you need something?" Karina asked.

"Not really. I just wanted to talk to you," Nayoung replied. "You seemed to be getting popular in my department these days. My blockmates call you a human Barbie."

"That's silly." Karina shrugged it off but she knew too well that she's pretty and people would always go crazy over her visuals and body proportion. However, she needed to be modest.

"It's true though! You're really beautiful, Karina. I wish I looked like you," Nayoung admitted.

"You're beautiful too, Nayoung," Karina replied and it took everything in her not to roll her eyes at the girl.

"Thank you. You're so kind and pretty," Nayoung complimented and smiled. "You also have such pretty lips."

Karina smirked internally. She knew where this was going.

"Really? Thank you, Nayoung! I've been using this lipstick I bought last week and I got a lot of compliments on Instagram. They said it made my lips look plump."

Nayoung's eyes landed on her lips and she stared at it for awhile before frowning. "Lucky you. I can't find the perfect lipstick shade for me."

Karina put down the folders she was holding and rummaged her bag. Then, she brought out the lipstick and handed it to Nayoung. Nayoung pretended not to know what to do with it and gave Karina a questioning look.

"What am I gonna do with this?" she asked.

"Put it on! I think it will look good on you!" Karina encouraged her.

"Really?"

"Yup! Do you want me to help you?"

Nayoung shook her head and got up from her seat to stand in front of the large mirror attached on the wall. She removed the cap and applied the creamy lipstick on her lips. Karina only stood behind her and watched was she was about to do next. When she was finished, she 'accidentally' dropped the lipstick which caused the product to be crushed and smudged on the floor. Both the girls gasped and Nayoung looked surprised and apologetic.

"Oh my gosh!" she exclaimed. "Karina, I'm so sorry!"

"What should I do?" Karina pretended to be devastated. "This product was out of stock. This is the last one."

"I'm really sorry, Karina! I'll buy you a new one I promise!

"But--"

"Oh, wait! I still have my next class. I'm really sorry, but I got to go!" Nayoung left the office and didn't even close the door.

Karina got up from her knees and slammed the door shut. Her devastated expression turned into a smirk as she stared at the crushed lipstick on the floor. Nayoung didn't even bother to help her clean the mess she made. She fished her phone inside her pocket and dialed Giselle's number.

"I have something to tell you."

You were chilling at the field, watching your fellow students running around and enjoying their break time. You couldn't find the girls and Giselle told you that she had to tell you something when you get home. You were so busy watching the others that you didn't notice Haechan's presence. When you turned around, your heart almost dropped in shock when you saw him beside you.

"Lee Haechan!" you exclaimed and hit him hard on his arm.

"Ouch! What was that for? Am I not allowed to sit here?" Haechan sulked as he held his stinging arm.

"You scared me!"

"This handsome face scared you?"

You didn't say anything but simply rolled your eyes. Silence loomed over the two of you but knowing Haechan, he would most likely do everything he could to make the conversation going.

"So, how are you?" Haechan asked.

"Still pretty, but that's not surprising at all."

"You're still not a convincing liar," Haechan joked and almost swore to his face. "I'm kidding, geez. But seriously though, what happened to you these past few days? You and the girls don't sit with us anymore."

"You don't eat at the cafeteria anymore," you answered. "And we're all busy in our lives, aren't we?"

"Well, that's kinda true," he said. "By the way, Jaemin told us everything."

Your head snapped towards Haechan but his eyes were closed.

"What did he say?"

"He didn't tell us why. He just said that he ended your friendship."

"If you're here to ask me the reason then I'm sorry but I'm not telling you either."

"I'm not here for that. I'm not expecting you to tell me anyway. I just wanted to know how are you doing. Are you okay?"

You were slightly touched by Haechan's thoughtfulness. You didn't know that he had it in him since he was always bickering with other people.

"I'm fine, of course. Why wouldn't I be? I didn't cry at all or anything. I already forgot about him," you blabbered. You couldn't form a comprehensive answer so you ended up saying a lot of unnecessary things which made you look like an idiot.

You were right because Haechan smirked and looked away from you. "Yeah, sure. If you say so. I only asked you how are you feeling but it seemed like you and Jaemin broke up."

"Broken friendships are a lot worse than a breakup," you retorted and he only shrugged his shoulder.

"Are you friends with Nayoung?" Haechan asked out of nowhere. Your face immediately twisted into disgust at his question and he took that as a response. "You don't like her as well."

"I despise her. I don't know why, but I just do. I might seem like a mean person to you but I can't fake what I feel."

"Don't worry, I won't judge you because I happened to feel the same way."

"Why did you ask?"

Haechan leaned forward and stole the snack from your lap. You were too tired to complain so you just let him have it.

"Do you still remember the post about you and Jaemin?"

You scoffed at the memory. After all, it was when everything started going downhill. "Vividly."

"I have a hunch that it's Nayoung."

Your eyes widened at what Haechan said. "We think the same too!" You told him about the drawer you saw that was opened when she came over. You also told him about the plan that you girls made because you felt like she was sabotaging each and everyone of you.

"I never would have thought that she's like that," you said.

"I never liked her the moment I saw her," Haechan admitted.

Your relaxation was cut off when one of your blockmates approached you.

"(Name)! Haechan! We have a meeting at the laboratory. Everyone is required to attend," he said and then he was off. You and Haechan stood up and dusted yourself up.

"(Name)," Haechan called you.

"What?"

"Whatever Jaemin was doing right now, don't take it personally."

Your brows furrowed in confusion but Haechan didn't bother to clear it up. He walked away first and you had to run after him and ask him what it was about, but he never told you anything.

When you got into the laboratory, everyone was already there. You joined Karina, Winter, and Ningning on their table. Unfortunately, Jaemin was sitting across you. The two of you made an eye contact but you instantly looked away. It was so awkward that you couldn't even move because of how stiff the atmosphere was. You distracted yourself by looking at the front and it didn't disappoint you.

Doyoung was writing something on the board with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

"Good afternoon, everyone. I'm sorry for requiring your presence this late, but we have an urgent matter that is needed to be addressed right away. Next month will be the celebration of NeoU's 50th anniversary and of course, there will be a school festival. We need to plan everything ahead because the week before the festival is the finals for the first semester."

"I can't believe that the first semester is almost over," Ningning whispered to us. You agreed with her and went back to listening.

"Before we start, I need someone to be the acting secretary and record the minutes of the meeting. This person has to be available all the time so I can coordinate with them easily. Preferably a freshman because the seniors are too busy."

Your heart beat erratically as you slowly raised your hand. This was a good opportunity to the plan you were working on but it meant an additional workload for you.

I don't mind, it's Kim Doyoung after all, you told yourself.

"(Name)! Are you sure you wanted to volunteer?" Doyoung asked.

You nodded eagerly. "Yes. I think I will learn a lot from this experience."

Doyoung gave you a wide smile. "Okay then, kindly write the minutes of the meeting and hand it to me after we adjourn."

In front of you, Jaemin couldn't help but snicker but he turned his back on you so you wouldn't see it. Jeno gave him a sideway glance and he couldn't help but smirk. All because of your one interaction with Doyoung, his mood was ruined.

In the end, your department decided to have a mini-restaurant for the festival and the division of task was decided according to your year. The seniors would be in charge of the menu, the juniors would be in charge of the preparation and organization, and the sophomores and freshmen would be in charge of the decoration of the booth.

"Is there anything you wanted to add?" Doyoung asked and the students looked at each other to see if anyone had questions. "Okay, since nobody answered, meeting adjourned."

You got up from your seat and handed Doyoung the paper where you wrote everything that was discussed. Jaemin discreetly followed you with his gaze and secretly studied your expression. It's obvious that you were elated, and he didn't like it.

"Don't stare too much," Jeno teased Jaemin and the latter only glared at him.

"Whatever she wants to do with her life. It's none of my business."

"I don't see her forcing you to interfere with her life, though," Jeno replied innocently and he earned an icy glare from his best friend once again.

Three days had passed since the meeting and the preparation for the upcoming festival had started. The mini-restaurant of your department is located at the open field along with the other booths so the soccer practices were on hold at the moment.

"(Name), can you bring these boxes to the storage room?" one of the sophomores asked you a favor. She was referring to the room beside the laboratory which served as the storage room for your department.

"Sure!" you agreed and got the box from her. Some of your blockmates still have their classes so they would help afterwards. You walked to the storage room and put the box on one of the tables. It was exhausting enough to be the acting secretary of your department but that didn't excuse you from helping in the preparation. You decided to rest for a bit at the storage room when the winds blew the curtains, revealing a glimpse of the view outside.

You stood up and walked to the window, slightly drawing the curtain. Then you saw something you shouldn't have seen.

You clasped a hand on your mouth as you tried to process what you just saw.

Jaemin and Nayoung were having a serious conversation outside when you saw him pin her against the wall. You weren't sure if they kissed, but you knew that the proximity was too close. It didn't matter to you, what you saw was enough to carve a hole on your heart.

Before you knew it, tears streamed down your face. The feeling was unexplainable. All you knew was that it was too painful to bear. You were not too sure what you were hurting for. You had no clear reason for your current feelings. You just sat there crying.

"Why am I feeling this way?" you asked between your sobs. You clutched your heart as if preventing it from tearing apart.

After a few minutes of rocking yourself back and forth, you finally stopped crying. You wiped your tearstained face and fixed your hair. Your eyes and nose were red but you could easily blame that to allergy since the place was dusty after all. When you're sure that you don't look stupid anymore, you left the storage room.

Before you witnessed everything, Jaemin had one thing in mind: coffee.

"Aren't you going to help your blockmates for the booth? I heard you're doing something grand!" Nayoung said.

"Nah, I'm too lazy," Jaemin answered lazily. He wanted to yawn so bad but it would mean that he was bored, and he wouldn't want to make her feel that way if he wanted to be on her good side.

"Hey, can I tell you something?" Nayoung asked. "I really wanted to get this out of my chest but I'm afraid that people will misunderstand me because they're quite famous."

"Okay, shoot."

Nayoung's eyes lit up and immediately spilled everything she wanted to say.

"Am I the only one who doesn't like (Name), Giselle, Karina, Winter and Ningning? Like, I really feel a strong bad vibes around them."

"How come? You're friends with them, aren't you?"

"I used to be friends with them but I stopped hanging around because they made me feel unwanted. They had a sleepover last time and they didn't even invite me."

Then Nayoung showed her phone to Jaemin. The picture was posted on Giselle's account. He instantly caught sight of you wearing those cute pair of silk pajamas. Your smile was so bright and contagious and he caught himself smiling, too.

"What's the smile for?" Nayoung asked suspiciously.

"What?"

"You're smiling. I saw you." Nayoung grabbed the phone from his hands. "Do you happen to like someone? Is it Winter? Giselle?"

"I don't like someone. That's absurd," he said but he felt like he was lying.

"If you like someone, that's alright. Just not (Name). I thought she was really nice but she was just putting up an act. She made me feel accepted when I joined your group only to discard me. She doesn't talk to me anymore. I wonder why people still say that she's kind--"

Jaemin was trying his best to suppress his anger but hearing Nayoung badmouth you made his blood boil. Before he knew it, he slammed Nayoung's back against a wall and trapped her between his arms. He was breathing heavily but Nayoung's heart was drumming inside her chest. That was the closest they had been, but little did she know that Jaemin did that out of anger.

"J-Jaemin... why... are you okay?" Nayoung breathed while looking at Jaemin with wide eyes.

Jaemin pushed himself away from her and ran a frustrated hand on his hair.

"I don't feel well. I should go home," he lied. And with that, he walked away and left Nayoung.
