XCVIII. Burn (Canadope) [Hamilton Crossover]

Okay, so, you probably have noticed the title says Canadope in parentheses, which, as you have probably already guessed, there will be another version of this song. I will also be doing one with Shelbmerica. I hope you give both of the drabbles a chance instead of reading just one and then ignoring the other one. Shelbmerica and Canadope are two completely different ships with two completely different characters and two completely different girls. The drabbles will be to the same song, but the content and reactions of Hope and Shelby are not going to be the exact same!

Please just bear with me with this one. I know you guys are probably all sick of Hamilton drabbles and the last thing you want is two versions of the same song but I'm really excited to write both of them, so I hope you like both of them as much as I do ^^"

Hope Williams sat on her knees of her bedroom, letters and newspapers spread out in front of her. On a shelf next to her, a lantern gave off just enough light to allow her to read. Clutched in her rigid hands was a article titled "THE BRAGINSKY PAMPHLET". In the article, written by her own husband, it explained how Matthew had paid money to Viktor Braginsky in order to continue an affair with his wife, Faith.

She sniffed. She was fighting hard not to cry. Matthew did not deserve her tears. But they still rolled down her freckled cheeks. "I saved every letter you wrote me..." She seemed to be singing to the pamphlet, as if the paper was now what embodied her husband, "from the moment I read them, I knew you were mine... You said you were mine... I thought you were mine..." She sang through gritted teeth. "Do you know what Taylor said, when we saw your first letter arrive? She said... "Be careful with that one, love. He will do what it takes to survive.""

Hope stood up, clutching the pamphlet to her chest and spinning slowly around the room, as if slow dancing with who could only be Matthew. "You and your words flooded my senses. Your sentences left me defenseless. You built me palaces out of paragraphs, you built cathedrals..." She swooned, before coming to an abrupt pause, her eyes locked on the ground.

"I'm rereading the letters you wrote me..." She walked stiffly over to the lamp, gripping the pamphlet fiercely. "I'm searching and scanning for answers in every line, for some kind of sign, of when you were mine... The world seemed to buuuuurrrrrrrnnnnnnn..." She stuck the paper in the fire, allowing it to catch. "To buuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnn..." She held it to her face, watching the flames engulf the words of Matthew's treachery.

"Hope?" A soft voice called, and the door opened, Matthew Williams stepping in. His violet eyes were wide, his face flushed. "Have you..." He paused instantly as he saw the tears streaking Hope's cheeks, the paper burning in her fist. She looked over at Matthew with a look of venom.

"You published the letters she wrote you!" She spat, throwing the paper aside. Matthew rushed forward and stomped it out before it could catch. "You told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed. In clearing your name, you have ruined our liivvvveeeeesss." She cried, tears spilling faster as her voice began to rise. "Do you know what Taylor said, when she read what you done? She said, "You have married an Icarus. He has flown too close to the sun." You and your words obsessed with your legacy," She shouted, grabbing more papers and reading over them quickly, as if reading what they actually said for the first time, "your sentences border on senseless! And you are paranoid in every paragraph! How they perceive yooooouuuuu..." She threw the paper at Matthew, making him flinch. She threw more and more until paper scattered the entire floor. "You, you, yoooooouuuuuuuu..." She seethed, before pausing, her breath heaving. Matthew stared at Hope in horror, never seeing this side of her before.

Her knees buckled to the ground, her tears splattering the floor. Her shaky hand picked up another letter, one of the first love letters Matthew had first sent when he had courted her. "I'm erasing myself from the narrative..." She whispered, the anger beginning to seep away to sadness and bitterness. She stood herself up, walking towards the lantern again. "Let future historians wonder how Hope reacted when you broke her heeaaarrrttttt!" She stuck the letter into the fire. Matthew gasped. "You have torn it all apart, I'm watching it buuuuurrrrrrnnnnnnn!" He tried to grab the letter, but she pushed him away. "I'm watching it buuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnn! The world has no right to my heart!" She shouted, throwing the burning paper at Matthew and catching his shirt on fire. He patted it out quickly. "The world has no place in our bed! They don't get to know what I said! I'm burning the memories! Burning the letter that might have redeemed you!" She grabbed a handful of paper and flung it towards the lantern. Only a few caught, but when they landed on the floor, the flame spread.

"You forfeit all rights to my heart!" She screamed as Matthew rushed forward to put out the flames. "You forfeit the place in our bed! You'll sleep in your office instead! With only the memories of when you were mmmmmmiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Matthew stared at the charred floor in horror, and turned slowly to see his wife standing above him, her eyes dark. "I hope that you... Buuuuurrrrrrnnnnnnnnn..." With that, she exited the bedroom, leaving Matthew alone with his own tears.
