Mini Drabble XVIII: Jenna's Birthday
It's nothing elaborate, and I realize she might not see it for a while, but I figured it would be nice to write :3
_______________
14.
Once, Jenna would have considered the age old, a sign that she was maturing, but now that she was friends with century old countries, 14 no longer seemed all that mature.
She walked through the park, sporting a pair of jean shorts and a tank top. Usually, she preferred sweat pants and a T-shirt, but in the hot Dallas sun, those outfits really weren't appropriate. She usually didn't just take random walks threw the park either, on account of bees, but after binge reading Harry Potter, her mother insisted she'd get some air.
"Hola, Jenna!" She heard peppy voice call behind her, and she turned in surprise to see Juan, otherwise known Mexico, running towards her with his arms spread wide. He engulfed her in a hug, and she shook her head, rolling her eyes teasingly as she returned the gesture. "Happy birthday!"
"You remembered?" Jenna inquired as he let go, his burgundy eyes sparkling excitedly.
"Of course I did! I would never forget a day as important as this one. Look, I even got you a present!" He stated, reaching in his pocket and grabbing out a necklace. On the chain, connected on both sides, was a glossy, rectangle-shaped flag, the left side being the left half of the Texan state flag, the right side being the right half of the Mexican flag.
Jenna blinked. "Where did you get that?"
"I made it! Well, my people did. If it's not made in China, it's probably made in either Vietnam or Mexico. Labors cheap, ya know." Juan said, walking behind Jenna and unclipping the chain, before placing it around Jenna's neck.
"Is... That really something to be proud of?" She inquired, looking down and admiring the charm.
"Eh, ya gotta learn to love yourself, even if several countries, including one of your brothers, likes to take advantage of you. But it's okay, today is not about my issues, it's about your's! Or, wait, that's not what I meant. I mean-"
Jenna covered the the country's mouth, letting out a small giggle. "You're a goof, Juan. But thank you, I really do love it." She mused, taking her hand away from his mouth.
He smirked, "Like you love me?" He asked, blowing on his knuckles and rubbing them on the fabric of his shirt.
That's when Jenna left.
