Mini Drabble LXXXII: Followed Your Heart

"Thanks for letting me spend the night, Shelbs." Spencer stated from his side of the bed.

Shelby laid there next to him with her eyes closed, "Hush I'm sleeping."

Spencer raised a brow. "Then why are you talking?"

"I'm sleep talking." Shelby muttered.

"Can I ask you something, and you give me, like, an honest answer?" Spencer whispered.

"Yep. If you go to sleep when you're done." Shelby muttered.

Spencer turned on his side, facing her and staring at her with earnest eyes. Shelby opened one of her eyes and glanced at him from the position where she laid.

"Do you... think I ruined things with Dennis?" Spencer asked, frowning.

Shelby took a deep breath. "If Dennis stops being your friend over this then he's not a friend you deserve." She stated honestly.

"Do you... think he feels the same way?" Spencer wondered nervously, his eyes wide.

Shelby pursed her lips, before turning and facing him. "Spencer, I have no clue if we're being completely honest. Dennis is pan, so it's not like you admitted to your hetero friend that you're crushing on them..."

"... but..." Spencer continued skeptically.

"But Dennis has a naturally flirtatious personality. And he's in a relationship. I can't
tell what he feels for you, if he does at all... if I were you, which I am for the most part, I wouldn't expect anything good to come out of it. I don't think Dennis will stop being your friend... but I'm not sure it'll be all right either." Shelby explained.

Spencer blinked. "You're just a little ray of sunshine."

"Hey, I'm just trying to prepare you for the worst." Shelby shrugged.

Spencer sighed, turning on his back and staring up at ceiling. "I guess you're right though. This whole thing is crazy. I put Dennis in a bad spot. I should have just kept my mouth shut."

"Hey, now I didn't say that." Shelby glared at him. "You followed what was in your heart. Whatever happens, you did what was best for you. And that's all that matters, good outcome or not."

Spencer pursed her lips. "Yeah... I guess you're right."

"Damn right I'm right. I can't remember a time I was goddamn wrong." Shelby chuckled.

"You're a pretty good counselor."

"Again, I know." Shelby joked, punching Spencer on his arm, before flipping back on her back. "Goodnight Spenc."

"Goodnight, Shelbs."

"... you're not gonna be able to fall asleep now, are you?"

"Not at all."
