LXXXVII. Satisfied [Hamilton Crossover]
I originally didn't plan on doing this song, but the recent animatic by GalatiBun inspired me to do so, so credit to her.
Sorry this is out of order and I'm leaving you hanging on the last Hamilton crossover. We'll get to Ten Duel Commandments soon.

"Alright, alright, that's what I'm talking about!" A very drunk Jett Anderson shouts across the banquet of his best friend's wedding. "Now, everyone, give it up for the maid of honor, Shelby Neufeld!"
The crowd cheers as the curly haired brunette steps forward, replacing Jett as she raises a glass of champagne. "A toast to the groom!"
The crowd turns their heads to Alfred Jones, "To the groom! To the groom! To the groom!"
Shelby's smile brightens, although something else sparkles in her grey-blue eyes, "To the bride!"
The attention switches from Alfred to Hope, his newly-wed wife, who's freckled face flushed, "To the bride! To the bride!"
"From your sister, who's always by your side!" The smile was becoming a bit more strained.
"By your side, by your side!"
Shelby attempts to snap herself out of it, raising the glass a bit higher. "To your union,"
"To the Union, to the revolution!"
"And the hope that you provide! May you always... Be satisfied."
Shelby freezes in place as she watches the entire incident rewind in front of her eyes. The banquet hall empties out, and suddenly refilled for what she recognized was the Winter Ball. It continues to rewind until she was standing in the middle of the dance floor, her hair completely out of sorts and her dress ruffled and out of place. She ran to the hallway, out of breath and out of sorts, fixing herself as she took deep breaths.
She leans up against the wall, her eyes trailing to the party, "I remember that night, I just might regret that night for the rest of my days." She gathers herself and steps back into the room. "I remember those soldier boys tripping over themselves to win our praise. I remember that dreamlike candlelight like a dream that you can't quite place, but Alfred," She sings as the blonde in question stepped into the room, a confident swagger in his walk, his posture erect and his eyes flirtatious, "I'll never forget the first time I your face."
She turns away, walking briskly over to a counter, her face flushed as her heart beat patters out of control. "I have never been the same. Intelligent eyes in a hunger-pang frame, and when you said "Hi," I forgot my dang name, set my heart aflame, every apart aflame, this is not game!"
"You strike me as a woman who has never been satisfied." A familiar voice speaks, and Shelby glances over to come face-to-face with a smirking Alfred Jones.
She raises a skeptical eyebrow, falling back into the story of the past, "I'm sure I don't know what you mean. You forget yourself."
"You're like me. I'm never satisfied." He explains further.
Shelby purses her lips, "Is that right?"
He shrugs, "I have never been satisfied."
Shelby pauses for a second, before letting out a half sigh, half giggle, and gets up, curtsying to the man. "My name is Shelby Neufeld."
He takes her hand, placing a kiss on her knuckles. "Alfred Jones."
Shelby stands straight, a smile gracing her features as her ears begin to flush, "Where's your family from?"
Jones pauses, his eyes giving away the slightest hint of panic, before he recovers and shakes his head with a smirk. "Unimportant, there's a million things I haven't done. But just you wait, just you wait..." He explains, walking away with a determined stride.
She watches him go, before looking straight into the audience. "So so so, so this is what it feels like to match wits with someone at your level? What the hell is catch? It's the feeling of freedom, of seein' the light, it Ben Franklin with a key and a kite!" Her cheeks flush. "You see it, right? The conversation lasted two minutes, maybe three minutes, everything we said in total agreement! It's a dream and it's a bit of a dance, a bit of a posture, it's a bit of a stance." She places a hand on her cheek lightly as she gazed off after him, a love-struck look in her eyes. "He's a bit of a flirt, but Imma give it a chance." She snaps out of it, smiling mischievously. "I asked about his family, did you see his answer? His hands started fidgeting, he looked askance-" She laughs, "He's penniless, he's flying by the seat of his pants." She begins to sway back and forth slightly, closing her eyes as she pictured his face in her mind, "Handsome, boy, does he know it! Peach fuzz, and he can't even grow it!" She began twirling around, her dress flying out around her, "I wanna take him far away from this place," suddenly, someone grabs her elbows, and she stops, looking over and seeing her younger sister Hope, "then I turn and see my sister's face and she is-"
The girl leans over and whispers in Shelby's ear, "Helpless..."
Something snaps in Shelby's chest as she completely freezes. 'And I know she is...'
Hope is gazing out at Alfred, "Helpless..."
It's painful. Every time her heart beats, the pain intensifies, 'And her eyes are just...'
Hope looks at her, her face completely flushed. Shelby swears she can see the light in the room reflecting hearts in her sister's eyes, "Helpless..."
'And I realize,' Shelby takes a breath, leaves Hope, and walks over to Alfred, taking his arm in her's and guiding him towards Hope, 'three fundamental truths at the exact same time...'
Alfred glances down at Shelby in confusion. "Where are you taking me?"
Shelby looks up with a smirk, "I'm about to change your life."
The look immediately transfers onto Alfred's features. "Then by all means, lead the way."
"Number one!"
The scene pauses except for Shelby, who focuses back on the audience, "I'm a girl in a world in which my only job is to marry rich. My father has no sons, so I'm the one who has to social climb for one, so I'm the oldest and the wittiest, and the gossip in New York City is insidious. And Alfred is penniless..." She half-laughs half-giggles again, looking at the ground remorsefully, "That doesn't mean I want him any less..."
The scene continues as they arrive at Hope, who curtsies, "Hope Neufeld. It's a pleasure to meet you." She flushes.
"Neufeld?" Alfred looks to Shelby with a raised brow.
"My sister." Shelby smiles.
"Number two!"
The scene pauses again, and Shelby's back to addressing the audience. "He's after me cause I'm a Neufeld sister. That evaluates his status. I'd have to be naïve to set that aside, maybe that is why I introduce him to Hope, now that's his bride! Nice going, Shelby, he was right, you will never be satisfied..."
The scene continues. "Thank you for all your service." Hope says as Alfred approaches.
He takes her hand, "If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it." He smiles as he kisses her hand, Hope's face beet red.
Shelby laughs, "I'll leave you to it!"
"Number three!"
Shelby turns aggressively towards the audience, tears forming in her eyes, "I know my sister like I know my own mind! You will never find anyone as trusting or as kind!" She approaches the frozen figures of Hope and Alfred, "If I tell her that I love him, she'd be silently resigned, he'd be mine! She would say, "I'm fine." She'd be lying!"
She turns to Alfred, a tear rolling down her cheek, "But when I fantasize at night, it's Alfred's eyes," she placed a hand softly on his cheek, leaning forward. The pain in her chest is almost unbearable, "as I romanticize what might have if I hadn't sized him up so quickly..." She was tempted to place a kiss on his cheek, or even his lips, but at this moment, he was no longer her's. She stepped away, "At least my dear Hope's his wife..." She forces a smile as tears pour down her cheeks, holding her right arm with her left, trying to ignore the throbbing, "at least I keep his eyes in my life..."
The scenes begin to swirl around her in fast forward, and she finds herself back up in front of the wedding party, Alfred and Hope both looking up at her expectedly, their hands intertwined and looking like the two happiest people in the world. She smiles again past the tears, shoving the champagne glass into the air, "To the groom!" She cries.
"To the groom! To the groom!"
"To the bride!"
"To the bride! To the bride!"
"From your sister, who is alway by your side! To your UNION!"
"To the Union! To the revolution!"
"AND THE HOPE THAT YOU PROVIDE! MAY YOU ALWAYS," She takes one look directly into Alfred beautiful blue eyes and instantly falls into a quieter voice, her breath taken away, the pain burning in her chest, "be satisfied..."
With her speech over, instead of taking her seat, she makes her way into the hall, her cheeks stained with moisture, "And I know... She'll be happy as his bride..." She presses her back to the wall, her vision blurring as a new batch of tears surfaces, and she lets out a once-restrained sob, "And I know... He will never be satisfied. I will never be satisfied..."
She lets another sob out, before the dam breaks and she covers her face, letting the emotion she swallowed back free. She finds, however, that no matter how long the tears flow, the pain doesn't lift from her heart a single millimeter.
