CXXXII. The Spade Moon [Cardverse]
Lol even though the last time I wrote a Cardverse Drabble was like a year ago we're going to pretend that the ball I wrote about so long ago happened like only a week ago. K? K.
Also, some really real Shelbmerica stuff ahead.

Seven of Spades leaned against the railing of her balcony, the Kingdom of Spades spread out before her, the lights in the village glimmering like diamonds in the night, reflecting the thousands of starts that twinkled in the dark sky above. The moon was full tonight, and in the light of the kingdom of power, it seemed to give off a blue aura. A gentle breeze rustled her wet hair, freshly washed, as she had just gotten out of the shower and was preparing to head to bed.
Unfortunately, she couldn't sleep with so much weighing on her mind.
She couldn't stop thinking about her dance at the ball. She danced with the King of Spades himself. And to be quite honest, he had taken her breath away. But, who wouldn't be stunned after dancing with the king? Certainly Shelby was no exception, but she did have conflicted feelings about it.
First and for most, she was convinced that he had only danced with her because of what she had been wearing at the ball. Her dress had been stunning; it even made her look good. But she didn't want to be danced with because she looked like a princess; she wanted him to dance with her because it was her, because he accepted who she was. And the person Shelby was was not someone who wore dresses like that.
Second, Alfred was the freaking King of the entire Spades kingdom. Even though she was in the court, and was a seven, which was fairly high in the rankings, there was no way that would go over well with her queen. Arthur already did not like Shelby that much (which was partly her own fault, granted), so there was no way that he would ever approve of a relationsh-
"What the hell are you thinking?" She scolded herself, standing upright. "That's never going to happen. You don't love him. It was one dance."
"Ohhhh, but dancing expresses sooooo many emotions without saying a word!" A voice exclaimed, and Shelby jumped back as she realized the Love Joker was sitting on the railing of her balcony.
"I didn't even know you were there." She whispered hoarsely, holding her robes around and backing up towards her the door to her room.
"I know, I usually end up wherever the love is. And there's a lot in the Spades kingdom tonight." The Joker smiled widely, glancing up at the ominous moon. "I need you to do something for me. I need to get dressed in your favorite outfit. You can do your makeup however you want, or not at all. Whatever you feel. Just make sure you're at the garden rooftop at EXACTLY 11:55. Like, exactly, I'm not screwing around."
"Uh, okay." Shelby stepped away. "What is this about?"
"Eh, a Joker never reveals her secrets." She smiled, before literally hopping off the balcony. Shelby ran over to the edge, staring over to see where the Joker had landed, but she was gone.
Shelby opened the hatch to the garden rooftop, peering out at the sky. She had never actually been to the garden rooftop- actually, only the Kings and Queens have. It was sorta like a place to find some peace from their busy lives. It wasn't against the law to be here as the Seven of Spades, but it was an unspoken, yet well understood social norm among the monarchy.
Still, she was amazed at the beauty of the platform. She closed the hatch and began around, admiring the succulents, cacti, vines and ivy, begonias, and flowers both closed, awaiting the sun, and open the to the full moon almost reaching the top of the sky. She held a closed tulip to her nose, inhaling it deeply. The smell was still fragrant and lovely as ever. She was tempted to pick a blue tulip and pin it into the pocket of her favorite tux, which she had chose to wear with her only makeup being her eyebrows and some mascara, but she decided just being here was risky enough without taking a flower.
"Hey Seven." A voice said from behind her, and she turned on her heels, her eye's wide. King Alfred stood in the middle of the garden, his hands behind his back and his face donning a naturally handsome smile.
"King Alfred." Shelby breathed, bowing deeply to him, before she remembered she was supposed to curtsy. She went to go curtsy while still bowing and fell over on her face.
Alfred laughed, walking forward and taking her hand, helping her to her feet. "You're a confused one, aren't you?"
"No, only around you." She muttered, her eyes trained on the ground.
"Fair enough." He flashed a bright smile, before offering his hand. "Care to dance?"
"Here? Now?" Shelby wondered allowed, looking around to make sure that they were truly alone.
"Yes my Lady. Unless you don't want to. There's no one here to witness you turn down my dance. No one to know you declined dancing with the king." He closed his eyes. "Not even me."
Seven of Spades glanced back at the hatch back into the castle, hesitating, before taking Alfred's hand. Within an instant, he pulled her into him, his hand placed at the small of her back where her stigma lay, causing her to stiffen slightly. Music played very softly from somewhere near by, though Shelby could not pin-point a source (she figured the Love Joker had something to do with it). Alfred, just as last time, moved with confidence and vigor, but was ten times more graceful than any person Shelby had ever danced with.
He let go of her hands and grabbed her hips, lifting her up in the air and spinning around. When he set her down, he placed his hand on the small of her back again and dipped her low, her long hair brushing the ground. The moon, which had reached it's highest point in the sky, shined directly on the dancers. Suddenly, a blue flash of what looked like electricity arched out from both Spades, connecting mid-way and intertwining, shocking both and knocking them to the ground. Within seconds, the blue aura the moon had been emitting dissipated.
Shelby's heart beat was leaping in her chest. Her stigma on her back was tingling more than ever now. Seven looked to Alfred, who's eyes were wide and sparkling as he stared at her in fascination.
"Woah..." he muttered, slowly smiling as his cheeks flushed slightly. He looked down to his chest, opening up his vest and pulling down his shirt, revealing a Spades stigma right above his heart. Both the Spade part of the mark and the K inscribed within it glowed a bright blue.
Shelby gasped, turning as far as she could where she sat and lifted up her shirt. Sure enough, both the Spade and the 7 of her mark was glowing brightly in the night.
"Why is it doing that?" Shelby whispered in amazement.
"I'm not entirely sure." Alfred laughed slightly, standing up and offering Seven his hand. She took it and he pulled her up, before taking her hand in both of his. "But I did feel that spark... literally."
Shelby stared up at him with wide eyes. "Me too."
He frowned. "Listen, I just- I wanted to meet you up here because I wanted to clear the air between us. I know you think I only danced with you that night because you were wearing that dress. That's not true. I've seen you for years, Seven of Spades. I've watched you dance with the same three people every ball, the same look of disapproval on Arthur's face... when you wore that dress, I danced when you then because I thought it was safer if Arthur paid attention. I had to dance with you."
"But why would you want to dance with me?" Shelby wondered in confusion. "I'm just the Seven of Spades."
"Well, it just so happens that seven is my lucky number." Alfred smiled, before frowning. "Well, seven and four, but I'm not at all interesting in courting Juan."
Seven choked on the air she was breathing. "Courting?" She squeaked, looking at the King of Spades in shock.
"Yes- well, only if you accept the offer, which is totally up to you, and I'll give you time to think about it." Alfred explained quickly, his grip on his hands tightening eagerly. His sky blue eyes twinkled like the stars above- Shelby suddenly remembered that Alfred was only 19. He was just like her.
Shelby glanced at the slight glow emitting from Alfred's stigma underneath his clothes, and thought of her own, which was glowing as well with the same intensity. She thought of that blue spark intertwining in front of her, and how it literally swept her off her feet...
"Okay." She stated. "But only if we keep it a secret for now. Queen Arthur's not to fond of me."
"No, I don't imagine he'll be very happy..." Alfred stated, before taking Shelby's chin and lifting it up slightly. "But sometimes it's okay to be selfish." He whispered, before placing a kiss on her lips. To Shelby's own surprise, she returned the motion, and wrapped her arms around his neck. He caressed her face, the feeling of his lips on her's sending literal shocks up her spine as her heart pounded.
When they separated, they both stared at each other with stars in their eyes, Alfred's hand falling on his heart as if to settle his own electrical current in his chest. "Woah..." they both whispered in sync.
After a few moments, Alfred lifted Shelby's hand to his lips. "Til tomorrow night, Seven of Spades."
She smiled, nodding. "Til then, King of Spades."
He was the first to leave, entering through the hatch and making his way to his chambers. Shelby followed shortly after, shutting and locking her door.
The halls were still for a second, before Queen Arthur stepped out from behind a tapestry, dusting off his robes.
"I love seeing the the King of Spades sneaking around with someone like the Seven of Spades." He muttered to himself sarcastically. "Just warms my heart, really."
