Ch. 43: Gajeel's Secret
{Levy's POV}
"♪I wanna be more than friends♪" Juvia winced as Gray leaned closer to her. The past few days, her and Gray were acting weird. From that point on, I knew that something was going on between them.
Anyway, we were having our music video shooting, Lucy editing the second part of the video and the rest of us resting. Gajeel leaned back on a couch, Natsu ate Okonomiyaki and Ramen, and Jellal tapped on his phone furiously. Erza went to who knows where.
As the last of the shooting ended, Juvia wiped a lot of sweat. Gray seemed anxious, shaking badly. "Good job, everyone." The cameraman shouted, raising up a thumb. "Lucy will be taking care of the rest. Thanks for the cooperation." He then turned to Mavis and Zeref to talk about some conference that will happen probably tomorrow according to our schedule.
"It's resting time," Juvia grabbed a bag of potato chips as Gray glanced at her disapprovingly. Juvia didn't seem to mind... I think.
"Yeah, well, another music video done." I shrugged, sinking on the couch. "Glad our album won as the Best Album Of The Year." I informed, grinning from ear to ear.
Lucy chuckled, "We're just amazing."
"At least you didn't say "amayzayn"." All of us girls laughed as we noticed that the boys vanished.
Erza skipped all the way here, smelling like a strawberry cake. "Where'd they go?"
Juvia rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. "To the club. They've been going there a lot recently."
Lucy put a thoughtful look on. "Are they stressed or something?"
Then again, I shrugged. "That I don't know."
Hours passed by, and the boys still weren't here. "Do you think we should go find them?" I asked Lucy who just finished editing and uploading our music video on youtube. I smiled when I saw that in a minute, it already had a thousand views and 500 likes. No dislikes yet.
"Nah, don't bother. They'll come back. It's not like they don't know how to come back. Besides, they're not drinking." She suddenly paused. "If they're playing around with girls, I'm gonna strangle the life out of them." I chortled at that.
"I'm gonna sleep now." Juvia informed, already dressed up in her pajama.
"What? It's too early."
"You didn't have your shooting, Erza." She replied and went upstairs.
"What's with her?" Lucy asked. Erza and I shared a look and shrugged.
*-*-*-*-
A grin spread on my face as I watched Divergent and popped a popcorn in my mouth. Erza blinks, actually not understanding anything from the movie. Lucy fell asleep even before the movie started, so I was left alone. Late at night and this is what I do.
The boys have already arrived an hour ago and they were acting really strange. Dunno if they're drunk, but there's definitely something going on. Going back, after they arrived, they went upstairs to the bedroom right away.
When the movie was finished, I yawned. "Erza, you gonna sleep?"
"Go ahead. There's some unfinished business here."
I nod and climb the stairs, halting when I came across Gajeel's bedroom which was just in front of mine. There was something urging me to go inside like I really needed to so... I did. Fortunately, he was deeply asleep. I crawled over to his desk and found his messy things scattered there. "Boys and their nature." I mumble, keeping an eye on him.
I straightened up. He shuffled underneath his blanket. Please don't wake up. Something caught my eye: a notebook. It's not an ordinary notebook-figuratively speaking-with its all brown leather cover. It's begging to be picked up-no, actually that was my urge speaking.
The pages looked old, as if it's something from years ago. I bet some of the pages are torn apart-
"Blue..." Gajeel mumbled sleepily as I froze. He's waking up!
I hid under his bed, closing my eyes as darkness surrounded me. The cold floor beneath me wasn't helping the nervousness I was feeling. I felt Gajeel got up and saw his feet. "Huh? Thought I caught sight of someone with blue hair. It better be not a ghost." It's hard to keep in the laughter; I couldn't breathe anymore and my face turned red from that. He's scared of ghosts to be honest and he believes in them ever since his mom told him something about ghosts.
"Okay, time's up, Levy. You can come out now." How did he- "I really saw you earlier. I can smell your scent. You're lucky you weren't one of the guys who came in here because I would've beaten you up."
Swallowing, I came out of the bed. He kicked me out, literally, that is. Oh yes, he's my best friend all right.
After that, the notebook stayed in my mind.
*-*-*-*-
"... birthday is in three days but no preparations are made." Those are the words that came out of Natsu's mouth as I burst in the room, thinking that it's late already. Sleeping too much was great but of course I need to wake up.
"Birthday?" The question made them bolt up. "Am I missing something?"
"It's my mom's birthday." Lucy said too smoothly. "No worries... I can handle it."
"Okay..." I replied with suspicion in my voice. "Now that you mentioned it, you're right. It's Layla's birthday in three days." I grin brightly, and they all look at each other and have a conversation with their eyes. What's wrong with them? I feel like I'm missing something in here... something that I should definitely know.
A minute later, they stopped staring at each other and stood up consecutively. I couldn't help but give them a bewildered look.
Six hours passed by, and still, they weren't telling me all about the secret. Gajeel himself wouldn't tell me for some reason, and I was so irritated by that. Were they really my friends?
In a furious state, I went upstairs then came across Gajeel's door. Nobody was here so nobody was seeing me. I could definitely see it. The previous feeling went away and was replaced by the overwhelming curiosity that I felt last night.
Carefully, I closed the door and slowly walked to where his desk was. Sorry, okay? The notebook really got me interested because I've never seen it before and I feel like there's a secret in one of those pages.
I rummaged through his drawer in a haste, impatiently trying to find the notebook. My eyes gleamed when I saw it and I immediately grabbed it from the drawer. Flipping through the first few pages...
I wouldn't want to say Dear Diary because those are for girls. But today I met a girl with her wavy blue hair. She was pretty with her hazel orbs sparkling whenever she read a book. Weirdo, that's what she is in the eyes of many. I didn't agree with that. Oh, I'm eating a chocolate chip cookie. Ciao!
Oh. I feel bad for entering his room without any permission and reading an important possession of his which was his diary. I am not giving him privacy.
But on the other hand, no need to think about who the girl is. It's definitely me.
Should I keep reading now? What I'm doing is really evil. But I'm so curious!
My nosy subconscious self got over me as I read another diary entry. Please forgive me, Gajeel.
Hi there. It's been two weeks. I'm glad the girl is already my friend. Turns out her name is Levy. Pretty name, huh? That's all though.
I was abashed to see-or read-a compliment. He never really said anything flattering-no, I think he never did-so... strange.
The third one was I guess the very last entry and it looks like it was just written maybe yesterday.
Hey there, been awhile. Been busy so I never got the chance to write to you. Sorry for forgetting you. So, there's this band called Eight Members and I'm proud to say that I'm one of them. The girl from the previous entry? She's my bandmate. Pretty encouraging, right?
Encouraging?
"We can't let the Eight Members fall in love with each other," She mumbled one day and I agreed. Too bad though, because Gray and Juvia has something going on between them (but we all can't assume). In relation to the topic, I like someone. I realized that I liked her for a long time, I just didn't notice it. It's awkward and all that. The girl's name-
I heard a thud and in surprise, I let go of the notebook. Ugh. Who is the girl? I'm so close. So close! Knowing that it's Gajeel, I escaped through his open window and landed safely on the grass. I lean on the wall and sigh. Interrupted as always.
"Levy," Erza looked down and saw me, seeming like she's in a hurry. "What're you doing here? Conference in 20 minutes. Hurry up!" Pale as a white rose, I nod and ran to where my room was. I passed by Gajeel and my skeptical self gave him an awkward smile, pushing the door to my bedroom.
"We're so gonna be late." Erza mumbled, flashing me a steely look. She bit her lip as she frequently glanced at her watch, watching out for the time. "Five minutes," She groaned, the others not really caring if we were late or not... including me.
We arrived at the venue and that's when we hurry up. We all ran towards the conference room, laughing like crazy because we were like kids running around a playground. Being late makes these things happen.
We were just in time when Natsu kicked the door, all sweaty like the rest of us did.
"Hi, Mr. Dragneel." A reporter greeted, a little too formal. Natsu just bowed as a sign of politeness (oh, he's not always like this, trust me.).
The questions about albums, songs and gossips filled the room, the once quiet air gone. We all had bad vibes because of that but we didn't show it because we were on-cam and everyone could see us. In the end, each one of us answered the questions in a nice way.
"Time's up." I heard Mavis announce in my earphone. I whispered what Mavis had told me to my friends and we immediately got up.
"Please answer our questions!"
Lucy flashed them a cheeky smile. "Sorry, but time's up. Maybe next time?" She offered, and we ran away from the crazy paparazzi.
Zeref welcomed us, beaming like a little kid. "In celebration for the success of the conference-"
"We are going to have dinner." I cut him off as everyone said yes.
The dinner happened smoothly. Grateful I am for that. We had little chats and laughs, Natsu joking every single time.
Dinner ended and I saw Gajeel's bag slightly open. I was about to remind him when something fell out of his bag: the notebook. As it landed on the floor, it opened and guess what? It's the page I last saw yesterday.
The girl's name is Levy McGarden.
I just died.
