Ch. 42: Direct, Indirect, or Both?

Happy February the 1st! :)

{Lucy’s POV}

Happy, excited, angry... I didn’t really know my emotion anymore. It’s all mixed up like a salad.

I brought out the spare key Erza gave me before I went out the house and put it in the keyhole. Once it clicked open, Natsu sighed exaggeratedly and jumped, getting excited about the video games.

Noticing that nobody was home yet, I rolled my eyes and went to where the mini bar was, pulling out a strong wine which Cana recommended me back when we were still high school kiddos. It wasn’t my habit to drink alcohol; I never really drank one. This was gonna be the first time I’m drinking.

Natsu strolled casually by the mini bar, whistling a familiar song. His jaw dropped to the floor once he saw me holding a wine bottle and a little glass in hand. He quickly snatched it from me. “What are you doing, woman?”

“Holding a wine bottle and a glass? I’m gonna drink. Do you have a problem?”

He glared at me. “I have a problem. You drinking.”

“Mother? Is that you?” I asked sarcastically, lifting an eyebrow. “No. Okay, now I’m having it. I’m not a little kid, you know?” Finally, I was able to snatch it from his grasp. “Thank you.” I could feel his shocked stare.

“Why are you drinking?”

“Why don’t you mind your own business?”

“Because Lucy Heartfilia is my best friend by all means?” He said suggestively, raking his hands over his hair. “There’s no way I’m letting you drink that.”

I bit my lip, irritated by the answer he just gave me. What a... never mind. “I’ve got a problem, okay? Don’t mind me. You’ve got your own life. Go back to playing your beloved damn video games.”

“Well then, I will.” He stormed out of the mini bar furiously as I started pouring myself a shot of... whatever this is called. Two shots, and I started feeling dizzy and crazy. World was spinning around me.

Five more shots and... I don’t know what’s happening anymore.

*-*-*-*-

Standing up, I saw Natsu leaning by the doorframe, eyeing me sternly. Two Natsus... what the heck is happening to me? I stumbled my way over to him, and he got startled when I landed on him so he lost balance. We were sprawled on the floor, and all I did was giggle and laugh.

“Lucy, get off of me!”

“Nah, you’re too comfortable.”

“I ain’t a freaking pillow!” He tried to shrug me off. “Goodness, you’re so heavy.” I giggled loudly and snuggled closer to him. “We’re on the floor, you idiot!”

I got teary eyed by what he just called me. “I’m an idiot?”

“Yeah!”

“But you like this!”

“No! Get off!” With a sad sigh, I got off of him, knees wobbly when I almost successfully managed to stand up. Luckily, there was a table behind me. “Go to your bedroom.”

“I don’t wanna!” I whined like a little kid.

“But we’re gonna practice our latest music video tomorrow! First thing in the morning!”

“The others aren’t here yet...” I mumbled, pouting. “What do you say? You want to do something exciting and enjoyable?”

“L-Like what? Oh, no! You should go to bed!”

“No!” I replied in a stubborn manner, sitting at the floor. “Gihee.” I sniggered, loving the cold floor.

Natsu sighed. “What do you want me to do, young lady?”

I smiled, thinking about anything that he could do. With a flick of my fingers, I grinned. “You’ll do anything, right? And when I say anything, I mean anything. Carry me to my bedroom.” I demanded.

“What? Are you a kid?”

“What if I got into an accident? Natsu Dragneel is gonna be the one to blame, right? Lucy will hunt him down with her sad soul. You know that she’s drunk and wobbly and has a great chance of falling down the stairs but still, nobody helped her up and she—”

“Stop!” He screamed frustratedly and I frowned. “What did you drink anyway?” He held up the bottle of red wine, scrutinizing it. He tried to find a little glass just like mine but with no such luck, he found nothing. Having no choice, he used mine and poured a shot of the red wine. He drank and grimaced at the sour taste of the wine just like I did earlier. “Gross.”

He turned to me and rolled his eyes. I felt sleepy all of a sudden. “Natsu...” I slurred. “You drank on the glass I just used.” I grinned wearily. “Indirect!” I shouted, chortling as I saw his flushed cheeks.

He carried me all the way upstairs, cheeks puffed and red from the thing I told him earlier. “Why are you so cute?”

“What?”

He laid me down the bed and I felt myself burning from the alcohol. “Nothing. Now that you’re done with the indirect, why don’t you try direct? If you want, you could do both.” Natsu blushed at the suggestion, freezing. Since he didn’t move, I did the first move, pulled him closer, and unfortunately, I didn’t know what happened next.

*-*-*-*-

“Nice, Lucy.” Juvia greeted with a sly smirk plastered on her face. What’s with people greeting me with “Nice, Lucy” instead of good morning? “Didn’t know you had it in you.” She bumped me a little too roughly so I got a little thrown back.

I glared at her. “What the hell?”

Gajeel stared at me. “Is it the TOM?” I swat his shoulder, glaring at him as well. How should I explain this... I got a hangover, and my head is killing me. Pain is talking, it’s not like it’s my TOM. “I think it is.”

“Don’t bother her, Gajeel.” Levy told him with a playful smirk on her face. “She’s still hung up on what happened last night.” This is where I began to suspect about everything. The puzzle was finally coming together. Them greeting me “Nice, Lucy”, them giving me playful smirks and them teasing me about something I still don’t know. Now Levy just said something that I did last night.

“And what is it?” I curiously queried, my eyes narrowing from the nervousness in the pit of my stomach. “Last night?”

“Yes, my dear. Last night.” Erza came in the scene, quoting the words last night with her fingers. “I loved it.”

“I don’t get it. Can someone please tell me what happened?” I remember that I was drunk and after that, it’s blank. Blank... I looked at Gray who was watching Juvia. No, not the perfect one to ask. Natsu came in the living room. Perfect. “Natsu.” He flinched when I called out his name, eyes widening. Is he blushing? Oh my panda, he is blushing.

“I-I’m busy with memorizing the lyrics. S-Sorry.”

He ran away like there’s a lion chasing him. “Why was he stammering like that?” I murmured to myself, my eyes wandering over to Zeref who entered.

He focused his eyes on me, smiling. “My brother is in love.” He sighed almost dramatically. “My lil bro is growing up fast.” That thought never left my mind. To whom was he in love with? “Hey, Lucy.”

There’s a teasing glint in his eyes. “Uh, hey there, Manager Zeref a.k.a. Blackie.”

“We all know who it is.” Jellal’s eyes flickered over to my place as he removed the headphones. “You are the only exception.” Jellal sang in a deep voice (he’s good) which was I think meant for me since he remained looking at my way and Erza gave out a hearty laugh. I didn’t understand. What’s that?

“Oh gosh, she’s so dense.” Levy groaned, rolling her eyes. She flashed Gajeel a meaningful look and I watched them have a conversation with their eyes. The topic is without my knowing.

Zeref chuckled. “No wonder they’re made for each other.” “They”? “But I love them so much.”

“I’m out of place.” I raised my hands.

Mavis put her feet on the table in a smooth manner. “We should tell her already. The suspense is killing her. She’s dying to know what we’re talking about.” They all nodded to Mavis’s suggestion simultaneously. “Well you see, Natsu woke up this morning. His eyes had bags around it and his face was all red, even his ears and neck. We asked him if there’s anything wrong, and he said nothing. But of course we didn’t believe him.

“He got tied up on a chair credits to us. All of us inquired him as to why he’s like that. After twenty eight minutes, we forced it out of him. And guess what he just told us? You drank alcohol. You said and did crazy things. You did the craziest and most unexpected thing. Lucy Heartfilia kissed Natsu Dragneel...” Other noises were nothing to me as I slowly processed what she just revealed. I. Kissed. Natsu. Natsu. Natsu. My first childhood best friend. The vocalist of Elemental Boys. My partner in crime.

I slowly glanced at Natsu’s direction who was blushing furiously, closing his eyes. I bet we were looking alike right now. My eyes were wide unlike him though.

“I’m so sorry!” I exclaimed, bowing multiple times. “Forgive me. My drunk self did that—it’s using my body—and I didn’t mean it.” A sheepish expression on my face, Levy stifled a laugh.

Natsu didn’t answer. It’s either he’s too embarrassed to respond or he doesn’t know what to say. People started going out of the living room and soon, Natsu and I were left. No one knows the status of the atmosphere right now. The air didn’t feel like awkward, but I did.

“So...” I mumbled, feeling hotter and more uncomfortable as each second passed by. “Hi?” What a stupid thing for me to say. There were too many words in the universe but of all things, why did “hi” come out of my mouth?

“Hello...” He drawled. He leaned on the wall, me catching sight of the bracelet I gave him. “Oh, this? Thanks, by the way. You know my favorite color up until today.”

My face went bright red. “No big deal. It’s just a bracelet.”

“But it’s my favorite one.”

“Okay lovebirds!” Levy burst through the room. “Time to go to the higher level.” She held out a glass of water to Natsu and he drank it. She also gave one to me and I shook my head. “Drink.” She deadpanned. I immediately obliged at that. “Good girl.” Oh gosh, another indirect kiss. “Now,” Levy pushed Natsu towards me. He landed softly on mine. Fortunately, a wall was behind me. I got startled as Levy held Natsu’s head and made his lips land on mine.

Direct Kiss. Indirect Kiss.

He stole my first and second kiss...
