Ch. 11: Cerulean Mermaid, The Warm Hearted
{Gray's POV}
"Oi, dude. Have you read the latest magazine of Sorcerer's?" Jellal nudged Gajeel who was playing a song on his keyboard. He shrugged. It was obvious he never cared for such a thing; he also doesn't read magazines. "I heard that it features the Color of Girls." Gajeel and mine's ears perked up, Gajeel pausing the song but then a moment later he continued. "Go ahead and see if I care." Jellal made a face at him, mumbling that he shouldn't have told Gajeel all about it.
Natsu came out of the bathroom in a towel, his air all wet. "Who's next?" He jabbed his thumb behind him. He then wore a polo shirt, afterwards using a cloth to dry his hair. Wait a minute. That's my hankerchief!
I held him by his collar, "Natsu!! That's my favorite hankerchief! Now look! I don't have any hankerchief to use anymore!" He made a peace sign, so I knocked him out which made Jellal stand up and be our referee.
"Now now. Gray you go ahead and take a bath. We'll be using the bathroom after you. Be quick, Zeref says to meet him up at the café near this village. He told us we have a conference about our new released album." Jellal pushed me gently while I continued glaring at the now unconscious Natsu on the floor.
"I'm not done yet." I whispered angrily. That hankerchief he just used to dry his hair was Juvia's gift for me on my tenth birthday. It was such a precious gift that I didn't want anyone touching it other than me. I also sprayed it with the perfume she gave me along with the hankerchief. I also love the perfume; it was her scent. A perfume named Frozen Rain. I wear it secretly, only Juvia noticing it. (Back then.)
After taking a bath and getting out of the bathroom, I got punched hard on my cheek. It hurt a little bit, but that doesn't matter now. It's Natsu who punched me. I can taste the blood on my mouth. I was about to punch him when I felt Gajeel and Jellal silently giving us death glares and telling us that if we don't stop, we'll never see the daylight. Natsu and I froze and shivered at their killing glares.
I cleared my throat, forcing a nervous smile, a sweat trickling down my forehead. "Who goes next into the bathroom?" Jellal didn't answered, and went through between us. When he went in the bathroom, I punched him. But then my fists landed on a pillow.
I turned to my left and saw Gajeel giving us a menacing stare, and if I even moved an inch, my head would be cut off. I shivered at the thought, leaving Natsu inside the house.
*-*-*-*-
"How do you feel about the mean feedbacks of the fans of the Color of Girls?" The last question was to be answered by Gajeel. I know that he badly wanted to get out of this conference room just like I am right now. I hate the blinding flashes of light from the camera, nosy people, and most of all, the gossips. Gajeel's response would be like: "I don't feel anything 'cause I don't care. Shut up, and I'm going home." and I'd be like: "Yay, it's the typical Gajeel." Though I know that he won't say that in front of these people because he doesn't want to disappoint our fans.
"Of course I'm a bit sad and sorrowful about it. I never want anyone to dislike and say mean things about us. But as the saying goes, life goes on. People judge based on what they see, so they can go ahead and be my guest. We know ourselves better than them. That's all I can say." He forced a smile in front of the media as we stood up and left the conference room with Zeref. I would like to congratulate Gajeel later for being a great drama actor and hypocrite. I chuckled to myself.
Zeref stopped walking and faced us with a wide grin. "So, do you want to have dinner? It's my treat."
We beamed and nodded at him, getting onto the van after Zeref told the driver on where to go—our favorite restaurant.
I got out of the van excitedly after the short ride, smiling as I read the name of the entrance. Makarov's Diner. It's a great resto and I love the dishes they serve here. Besides, this was where we celebrated after we won champion at Asia's Got Talent. Makarov was our best old buddy, too.
"We're here." Jellal giggled, skipping all the way to the resto's employee room to see Makarov.
"Makarov!" We all threw our arms around Makarov not long after we knocked, not caring if we suffocated him with our tight hug. "How are you?" Natsu asked brightly, examining his entire body.
Makarov gave us a wide smile, "Never been better. I'm so glad that you still never forgot me. It's been four months since you last visited me, and you all were busy with your careers. Oh, come with me to the VIP room and there we could chat endlessly." He chuckled as he led us to a large and spacious room filled by his relatives, friends, and some celebrities.
Ah, it never changed. He let us sit down at one corner of the room, asked for our orders and left after we ordered.
While waiting, Natsu tried to joke around and made us laugh. Makarov was sitting beside me after he got our orders, laughing along about Natsu's not-so-funny jokes. Zeref laughed the hardest, that at one point he almost rolled over the shiny and glossy floor and almost had a heart attack. He was one heck of a jolly person, I'd tell you that much.
"So... any love interests?" Makarov snickered, trying to change the subject. "Does anyone here have someone they like? Or, perhaps, is someone around the group dating someone?"
"Not really." Was almost all the answers he got.
"Back then, Jellal did!!" Natsu exclaimed. Oh, here comes the idiotic blabbermouth. He got a smack on the head by Jellal which earned a laugh from Makarov.
"And who's the lucky lady?" He grinned teasingly.
"Nothing." Jellal smiled awkwardly, covering Natsu's mouth before he could say anything that might be the end for him.
"Oh, come on. I thought there must be no secrets between us?" Makarov pouted.
"Yuck, Makarov. Stop pouting, it's gross." I acted disgusted, Gajeel, Natsu and Jellal laughing at my comment. Makarov acted like it offended him, but then broke into hysterical fits of laughter a moment later.
"Don't try to change the subject," he cleared his throat, looking at Jellal with a poker face, who totally forgot that he should cover Natsu's mouth.
Natsu stood up, like an emergency had happened. "He liked Erza back then." Jellal hid his face between his hands, blushing madly.
"But it was just back then..." he said, still flustered.
"Oh yeah? Then why is your face cherry red?" Gajeel mocked.
"Just because." Jellal grumbled, rolling his eyes. We laughed at him harder. I mean, I think he still likes Erza. He's blushing. That's a proof. But then maybe he doesn't like her anymore—he's just embarassed about the fact that he liked Erza back then.
"Anyone else?" Makarov inquired, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Uhm, I think Natsu does." I grinned at Natsu's wide eyes. This can be my way of avenging.
"Well? Spill it."
"It's nothing." Natsu snapped, glaring at me.
"He's saving his lips for Lucy!" I announced, just enough for the people around the table to hear us. Makarov raised an eyebrow at us, looking confused.
"Uhm, who's Lucy?"
"His crush."
"My bestfriend."
I smirked at Natsu teasingly. His ears were already red probably from the anger and embarassment.
Gajeel cleared his throat to stop our fight before it could get worse, "Gray's just making fun of him!"
We all ate after that because the food had arrived.
After that hilarious dinner, we got on the van. Gajeel asked me if I could tag along on the bookstore. I agreed, seeing that there's nothing much to do after we get home. Going inside the book store, he picked up a book entitled The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins. I huffed. I know I can't do anything around this bookstore except look around. I sighed and went to the magazine section.
There I saw magazines that were all about life styles, pregnant mothers, K-Zone, Almanac, popular things this year, and how to cook food. I also saw indecent magazines which made me puke. I stopped by to look at a certain magazine. The Weekly Sorcerer's Magazine which features the Color of Girls. Secretly, I sneaked on the counter, becoming fully alert about Gajeel. I sighed in relief when he was out of my sight. He's still probably looking for more books to read.
I got a little nervous when it was my turn to pay next on the counter. Sure I had a nice disguise so that nobody could recognize me, but then the ones I'm buying right now is a little bit embarassing.
Once I gave the magazine to the lady on the counter, she smirked. "Mr. Ice?" I put my index finger over my mouth and made a shh sound. "How funny. To think that the fans of Color of Girls and Elemental Boys are fighting. I'm so shocked that I would see you here secretly buying the Weekly Sorcerer's Magazine featuring the Color of Girls. Don't worry, this'll be a secret between us," she winked, giving me a plastic containing the magazine I bought. I nodded, turning around.
I hid the magazine on my bag, then looked for Gajeel. "You done?" He was getting All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niver. He nodded and went to the counter, snickering for whatever reason.
While getting out of the book store, he whispered: "I saw you." I got as pale as a white rose, my pace becoming as slowly as ever.
As soon as I got home, I ran to my bedroom and opened the plastic that contained the magazine. I quickly flipped through the pages, stopping in a certain page which contained information about Juvia... or Cerulean Mermaid.

I frowned at the best friend part. It couldn't be me, right? I mean, I know that she hates me until now for leaving them with no valid reason.
"So, you're reading it. I was right all along." I jumped from the voice. It was Gajeel. He was snickering. I never knew he got in my room. Maybe I got too focused on Juvia's profile. I got goosebumps. But that doesn't matter right now. He caught me reading a Weekly Sorcerer's Magazine—particularly all about Juvia. Oh, I'm doomed. I'm such an idiot.
