EFFIGY !

In the desert i saw a creature, naked, bestial, who, squatting upon the ground, held his heart in his hands, and ate of it.

I said, "Is it good, friend?"

"It is bitter-bitter," he answered; "But I like it. Because it is bitter, and because it is my heart."

"In The Desert" / Stephen Crane.

EFFIGY !

❛ i find it kind of funny,
i find it kind of sad,
the dreams in which i'm
dying are the best i've
ever had.❜
-- "mad world",
tears for fears.

An effigy is more than a mere representation. It is a symbol, a vessel, a projection of humanity's deepest emotions.

For centuries, effigies have been crafted to honor the dead, commemorate heroes, or embody sacred ideals. Yet, just as often, they have served darker purposes--burned in protest, mutilated in defiance, or cursed in rituals meant to channel rage or fear.

They are silent witnesses to the passions of the living, and yet, some whisper of an unsettling truth: that what we create in our image may take on a life of its own.

Margaret Thatcher is no stranger to any of this––the symbols, the artifacts that reshape the world they were meant only to reflect.

She'd worked cases similar. Contracted out by the FBI to consult on oddities and things that would leave most scratching their heads in bewilderment.

Over the years, Mary had built up her reputation as a government contracted Investigative Journalist and Private investigatior. It wasn't uncommon to have a call come in directly from the FBI catch her by the sweatpants and messy hair.

What had never happened over the course of her entirety working as a consultant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was getting a call directly from none other than Fox Mulder himself. A name she hadn't heard since her graduation at Oxford, a name she had buried, or so she though.

Mary Thatcher can't help but want to put herself on the pyre and stack it high.

After all, we are all effigies, are we not?

What better fate for an effigy that to burn, burn, burn.
