Hey, I just discovered this...

Kalos is a sideways version of France.

It kind of makes sense. Paris would be Lumoise City (The city on the game is a sterotype, it's nothing like the real city which, yes, I've actually been to), and that would explain the cafes and high-fashion clothes stores in every town. (Yeah, in real life there are a gazillion cafes.)
