3rd Person POV:

It had been a few days at the run-down building before the group decided to move on yet again. Matt and Eduardo had been hanging out, ready to go. The rest of the group prepared their things, doing a final search of the building. Matt and Eduardo sat near the entrance of the building, waiting. Matt sighed and rested his head on Eduardo's shoulder, the boys' faces reddening.

"...Eduardo..." "Yeah?" "When do you think we'll be able to stop running?"

Eduardo hummed, a bit hesitant to tell Matt his thoughts on the matter. "...I don't think that 'Tord' guy is planning on giving up..." Eduardo muttered, his expression saddening. There was silence for a bit, then Matt sniffled. Eduardo jumped, realizing that his honesty had brought the ginger to tears.

"M-Matt- I didn't mean it-" "What if we're going to live like this forever?!" Eduardo wasn't sure how to respond, and Matt lifted his head from Eduardo's shoulder. Matt wiped his small tears away, Eduardo rubbing his shoulder. "...C'mon, Matt... don't cry..." Matt looked over at Eduardo, his eyes lined with tears.

"What are we gonna d-do?" Matt asked, sniffling once more. "...I'm sure that we'll figure something out eventually." Eduardo replied. Matt thought about it for a moment, then started to smile a small bit. Eduardo playfully poked Matt's cheek as an attempt to make him feel better, which somehow worked. Matt giggled, then booped Eduardo's nose.

"You're so silly, Eduardie~." Eduardo blushed, then chuckled. "Is that what you're gonna call me from now on?" Eduardo queried. "Well, I could always call you 'Eye-Candy'." "Wh-"

The two lovebirds were interrupted by the rest of the group's arrival. Matt stood up from the floor, dusting himself off. Eduardo stood as well and did the same. "Ready to go? Remember, like last time, we have to stay in alleys and we have to be quiet." Tom instructed.

Eduardo adjusted the strap from his red purse on his shoulder, Mini-Eduardo's head still sticking out from the top (the teddy bear). Matt was glad that Eduardo kept it, and he saw Eduardo holding it during the past few days. Eduardo took Matt's hand, remembering that Matt had done that the time they'd left the abandoned hospital. Eduardo's blush became dark as he looked away from Matt, the other male only blushing a small bit.

Then, the group departed. They walked slowly, sometimes quickly, and hid behind buildings and the remaining wildlife as they headed to the next building. This time, it was an abandoned library. Eduardo decided that Mark would most likely be there even though many of the books would be scorched and turned into ashes by now.

This building had many openings, so it wasn't very safe. Plus, there seemed to be many Red Army soldiers in the area. They'd have to move to another building soon enough. The group explored the library, finding different rooms and piles of rubble every now and then. Matt and Eduardo split up from the group, finding a rather large and empty room.

Eduardo set his red purse down in one of the corners of the room, noticing a few cracks in the wall. Matt just followed Eduardo around, seeming a bit too cheery. "What's up with you, Goldilocks?" Eduardo asked, turning to face the other male. Matt laughed a bit and grinned.

"Oh, nothing, Eye-Candy. I was just... planning something." Matt answered. "Like what?" Eduardo questioned, a smile coming onto his face from the nickname. "Eduardo... can we- uhm- maybe hang out tonight?" Matt inquired, seeming a bit hesitant to ask. "L-like a date-" "U-uh-" "Uhm-" They both went silent, making the room feel stuffy. "...Sure, Eye-Candy, it's a d-date." Matt finally agreed.

Both of the males were too shy and flustered to continue the conversation. "W-well... I'm gonna go find the rest of the group-" Eduardo stuttered, heading off. "Yeah, me- uh- me too!" Matt responded, catching up to Eduardo. The two males were silent, sometimes glancing at each other as they walked hand-in-hand to the rest of the group. It took a long time, but they soon found their friends in a hallway.

"What's shakin', bacon?" Matt announced on entry, the group looking over at them. "Oh, heya Matt. And Eduardo." Jon greeted, snickering to himself when he saw their intertwined hands. Matt sat down with everyone, Eduardo doing the same. Edd huffed and crossed his arms.

"You have a bad taste in men, Matt." Matt narrowed his eyes at Edd, and Eduardo growled. But, the two didn't comment. Everyone started chatting, Matt and Eduardo sometimes just saying things to each other. The group shared the food and water that they'd brought with them, and it wasn't long before night-time came around.

The group members, other than Matt and Eduardo, separated to search the building some more and to find a safe space to sleep. Matt and Eduardo went to the second floor of the building, finding a gap in the wall that allowed the moonlight to seep in. Matt and Eduardo gazed out from the gap, Matt soon sighing.

"...Is this... right?" The ginger asked, looking over at Eduardo. "What?" Eduardo replied, returning the gaze. "...Just... we're having fun and having this date during a literal war..." Matt explained, looking down at the floor. Eduardo took Matt's hands.
"Matt... why can't we live our lives and have fun just because there are people trying to kill us? I mean- like, shouldn't we try to have the best time as possible while we're still alive? Before they finally kill us?" Eduardo responded, his words seeming harsh. But, of course, their reality was harsh. Matt was taken aback by that, his cheeks turning pink from Eduardo's sudden confidence.

"I-I-" Matt stammered, unsure of what to say. Eduardo stayed silent, watching the ginger. Waiting for his decision. Then, Matt jumped onto Eduardo with a hug, choking on a sob. Eduardo tried his best to stay stable, hugging back as Matt wrapped his legs around the male. Matt rested his head on Eduardo's shoulder and continued to weep, Eduardo soon sitting down to have Matt sit in his lap.

"I-I don't wanna die, Eduardie! I just- I can't! This can't be the way that our lives end!" Matt wailed, hugging the male tighter in that moment. Eduardo patted Matt's back. "Well- Matt- I guess that we could survive this somehow, but it would take a lot of effort and work-" Eduardo mused, trying to make Matt feel a bit better. Matt loosened the hug a bit, wiping his eyelids with his green overcoat's sleeves.

"Do you think s-so?" Matt inquired, now looking at Eduardo and blushing from their position. Eduardo hesitated, but nodded. "Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but y'know, I guess that we still have a bit of luck on our side. We've made it this far, after all." Eduardo continued, shrugging his shoulders.

Matt nodded slightly, then pecked Eduardo's cheek. "If we do live, I'll want to go on more dates with you." Matt flirted, causing Eduardo to blush madly. "U-uhm-" Eduardo stuttered, not sure how to reply.

(The next one is the finale of this oneshot series! To be continued!)
