Chatper 2 (Tatum's POV)

        THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

   "Bye, mom," I say. It was my first day of school, also Halloween. I got out of the car and walked into the school. Couples were making out in the hallway, and people were laughing, but as soon as I walked in, everything stopped. All eyes we on me.

 I took a deep breath and confidently walked down the hallway. My dad always told me to be confident. People liked confidence, which is what he said. I looked around for Nancy. She was talking to Jonathan Byers. Jonathan Byers was always weird, but we were friends when I was little. 

"Hi Nancy!" I say joyfully. 

"Tatum! What are you doing here?" Jonathan says.

 "I don't know if you heard, but my dad passed, so I'm living with my mom and Dustin again." I say. 

"Oh, I'm so sorry I didn't hear that." He says. 

I shrug, "Anyway, Hi Tatum." Nancy says.

"Hi." I say.

 All of a sudden, this boy comes around the corner and grabs Nancy by the waist, and starts kissing her. He was wearing sunglasses so I couldn't tell who it was, but he had some nice hair. I looked over at Jonathan to see if he knew, but his eyes were on Nancy. He looked sad.

 "Take those stupid things off." Nancy says. The boy takes the sunglasses off, and it is Steve. As soon as he took the glasses off, we immediately made eye contact. He looked extremely shocked. 

"Steve Harrington?" I shout.

 "Tatum Henderson?" He shouts back. He suddenly lets go of Nancy. Steve Harrington was my ex-boyfriend. Our 8th grade relationship was complicated. Me and him were always referred to as the 'The King and The Queen', and we were always on and off, but we loved each other. Maybe it was a little serious for being 14. Anyways, back to the point.. I had a biggest crush on him, and Nancy knew that.

 I felt betrayed, "How you been? I heard your dad passed. Sorry about that..." Steve says akawardly.

How did he know that? Only a few people knew, and Nancy wouldn't tell him that, right? I mean, she never even mentioned him to me, so why would she mention me to him.

"I've been doing good..." I say. I look over to Jonathan, and he is almost all the way down the hall. "I gotta go to class." I say.

I chased after Jonathan. "What just happened? Can you like explain." I say.

"Did Nancy tell you about my brother going missing?" He asks. 

"Yeah.. she also told me about everything else." I say jogging to keep up with his pace. 

"Ok, so Steve and Nancy were dating, and Nancy kinda cheated on him with me, and now she is back together with him, but she doesn't really wanna be in the relationship." He says quickly. 

"Ohh, ok.. Wait, why doesn't she wanna be with him. I mean, who wouldn't.." I ask. 

"She just doesn't." He says.

 "Ok. Well, are you coming to Tinas party?" I say. 

He slows down his pace, "Yeah, I mean Nancy wants me to come, so I guess so." He says.

 I nudge him, "I'm rooting for team Jancy." I say. 

"You're only rooting for me because you like Steve and don't like that Nancy is with him." He says with a smile.

 "Ok, well, it's kind of fucked. You leave the state for four years, and all of a sudden, your best friend starts dating the person you like. And on top of that she doesn't actually like him." I say quietly. 

Jonathan shrugs, "See you at lunch." He says, walking into a classroom. 

"See you." 

   I have math first, and I make my way to the back of the class, hoping no one would notice me, but when I walked through the halls this morning, I'm pretty sure everyone noticed. The last bell rang. I looked around to see who was in my class, and of course, it was Steve. Steve sat 1 row in front of me.

   About thirty minutes I rose my hand to go to the bathroom. 

"Can I go to the restroom?" I ask. My teacher nods, and I head out of the classroom door. I did my business, and I came back to a note on my desk. It read:

  'I'm sorry, meet me under the bleachers at lunch.'

   He looked back at me to see if I had gotten it, and I nodded. A few hours had passed, and it was now time for lunch. I sneaked out and ran towards the football field. I eventually found Steve under the bleachers

"Hey Tatum," He says. 

"Hey Harrington." I say. 

"I'm sorry. I didn't ever think I would see you again." He says. Steve grabs my waist and pulls me into a hug. 

 "I never thought I would be back here." I reply. I pull away from the hug and peck his cheek. 

"I'll see you at Tina's party tonight." I say, I walk back to the main building and go into the lunch room. 

Nancy signals me over to her table. She was sitting with Jonathan. "Hey guys." I across from Nancy.

 "Have you seen Steve?" Nancy asks me. 

"Nope." I lie. Jonathan kicks my foot under the table, knowing I was lying. Steve pops up behind Nancy. 

"Sorry, I was talking to one of the teachers." He says. Nancy nods suspiciously. After chatting for a while, the bell rings. I had 2 more classes. 

   I managed to get through the rest of the day, and now it was time for the party.
