Born in Yongin, South Korea, Haneul moved a lot when he was younger, his parents deciding to settle down in Busan once he was seven. Despite growing up in a healthy family environment, at a young age Hannie was outcasted at school, and had very few to no friends. Spending time with her brother and sister a lot, he began to feel anxious when away from them, not having them to protect them.

Developing this anxiety, he sadly became depressed when he was just in middle school due to constant bullying. Despite his closeness to his family, they didn't find out about the bullying their son received until he was found unconscious in the school bathroom with obvious bruising and bleeding. This severe bullying carried out throughout the many different schools he attended, attending three middle schools and two high schools in total.

In the second high school he attended, Hannie met his still close friend Iseul, who was in a dance group named 'Blood Heart'. This helped him fall in love with music, especially dance. This passion grew his confidence, officially joining the dance crew in 2011, Hannie had a friendship group for the first time in his life. Becoming a trainee never passed his mind, instead sticking to busking with his friends, posting videos on YouTube of his dancing. However, in 2014, he was scouted by Starship entertainment.

When the woman approached him after a performance on the streets, Hannie got scared and ran away from her in panic. Luckily, his father was in the crowd watching him, had talked to her instead and exchanged numbers.

He became a trainee quick, and became close to Chacha as two of the most popular trainees. Training hard, once becoming an adult he joined the military, which inspired him to change his work ethic. Becoming more active in the industry, he became an official choreographer for big names in the Kpop industry. Earning the nickname 'Twice's Choreographer' in 2017 as he choreographed all of their title track dances that year.

After becoming more well known, Hannie was put into the official lineup of LOVE, which made each of the other members happy as they all trained with him in the past.

Hannie isn't afraid to change up his style, if he tried a new hair colour he could buy a bunch of new clothes to match it. Hannie is said to be the brain behind the changes of concepts in the group. Despite this interest in himself, he is observant of others and is sensitive to their emotions. Hannie is actually very emotional, and can crumble under criticism. This is his greatest weakness, having bad reactions to criticism. He offers to help people talk about their troubles and provide them emotional support. However, if the problem is about him, Hannie is most likely to avoid a conflict altogether than to address it head-on.

He has problems with actually acting on things, focusing on immediate pleasures he can enjoy instead of luxuries he can reach by completing certain duties or tasks. Complex analysis, and repetitive tasks, etc to real consequences are not easy activities for him. He relies on luck and opportunities, when he choreographs he goes with the flow and makes move up as he goes along.
