Chapter 14

Pursuit

-Griffin-

Sweat dripped down my face. My heart pounded in my chest. A cloaked figure was a couple of yards away from me. My friends were close behind me. We had chased the thief into a thick forest.

I leapt over a fallen tree and kept running. Liam caught up to me.

"This guy doesn't give up." He growled.

"Stop!" Zoey shouted to the cloaked man.

He glanced at us and picked up his pace. Liam threw a Pokeball in the air. His Cubone landed on his shoulder as he caught the Pokeball.

"Cubone, Bonemerang!"

Cubone chucked his bone at the man we were pursuing. The bone spun and nailed the cloaked man in the back of his head. He fell to the ground as Cubone's bone flew back to him.

We caught up to the man. He bolted up and backed up against a tree. The only features I could make out from under the hood was his black hair and his deep brown eyes. A small beard was also forming on his chin.

"We have you cornered. Give us the Mega Ring!" I said.

The man smirked. A piercing cry rang out. A metal armored bird landed in front of us.

"Skarmory, Wing Attack!" The man shouted.

Skarmory spread its wings and flew speedily towards us. We jumped out of the way to avoid the attack. I got up and realized the man now had a Bisharp with him as well.

My friends and I exchanged looks. We would have to battle him. I threw Umbreon's Pokeball. The Eeveelution stood proudly in the moonlight. Zoey threw out her evolved form of Eevee, Jolteon. Cubone jumped off of Liam's shoulder and got ready to fight.

"Jolteon, use Charge Beam on Skarmory!" Zoey ordered.

Jolteon's fur crackled with sparks. A beam of electricity shocked Skarmory. The Armored Bird grunted in pain but shook it off.

"Bisharp, Metal Claw on the runty Cubone! Skarmory, Air Cutter!"

Skarmory pounded its metallic wings and sharp discs of air flew at our Pokemon. Umbreon was grazed by a few of them while Jolteon took some head on. Cubone, on the other hand, was unaffected because he was a Ground-Type.

Bisharp lunged at Cubone and slashed him with one of his blades. Bisharp was about to hit him again but Cubone blocked the attack with his bone.

"Bone Rush!" Liam called to his Pokemon.

Cubone clubbed his opponent with his bone. Bisharp stumbled back.

"Umbreon, Shadow Ball on Bisharp!"

A shadowy sphere formed on Umbreon's lips. Umbreon fired the attack at Bisharp. Skarmory flew in front of the attack and hit it back at Umbreon with its metallic wing.

"Umbreon, dodge!"

Umbreon rolled out of the way of the attack.

"Umbreon, Dark Pulse!"

A wave of black energy jetted towards our opponents. Both Pokemon were hit by the attack.

"Jolteon, Shock Wave on Skarmory!" Zoey yelled.

"Bisharp, Metal Sound!"

Bisharp scraped its metal hands together. A horrible screeching sound rang in the air. I covered my ears. The sound was unbearable. The Metal Sound attack interfered with Jolteon getting ready for a Shock Wave.

"Bisharp, Slash! Skarmory, Steel Wing!" The crook commanded.

Bisharp slashed Umbreon on his back. Umbreon growled in pain. Skarmory's wings started glow. Skarmory flew towards Jolteon and cut her along the right side of her body.

"Cubone, Low Kick on Skarmory!"

Cubone swung his foot at Skarmory's legs. Skarmory was swept to the ground.

"Umbreon, Shadow Ball!"

Umbreon launched the Shadow Ball Skarmory. Skarmory was struck by the attack and remained on the ground.

"Shit!" The thief yelled. "Bisharp, Metal Claw them!"

"Jolteon, Shock Wave." Zoey said to her Pokemon.

Jolteon became cloaked in electricity. She shot a lightning bolt at Bisharp. Bisharp crumpled to the ground in defeat. The man cursed and returned his Bisharp.

"Give us the Mega Ring or else!" I threatened.

"Or else what?" The man growled.

"Or else an unimaginable amount of volts will electrify you until you're charred and crispy." Zoey said.

I gulped. I just remembered how scary Zoey can be some times.

"Oh, your that kid who snuck up on me at that school!" The man pointed a finger at Zoey. "So, you must've came after us. Brave but stupid. You don't know what your getting yourselves into! We're planning something big! And our plan's almost complete! So butt out or you'll regret it!"

I punched the man across his face. He fell to the ground. I had enough of this guy. If he's with the thieves then maybe he can tell me where Asher is.

"Where's my brother? You people have him, don't you?" I yelled as grabbed him by his collar and punched him again.

"Ha! You must be his kid brother!" He smiled manically.

"Yeah, now where is he?" I cracked him in the jaw.

"You think I know?" He caught the last punch I threw at him.

"You have to know something." I stood up.

"All I know is that he's trying to protect something he can't protect. He's trying to protect a being that is nothing more than a weapon. I also know something else."

"And what's that." I snapped.

"I know that your gonna die."

I heard a rustling sound. I looked to my left and saw his Skarmory was now standing. The Skarmory zoomed towards me. He grabbed my jacket with his talons. His master got on top of him and we started to fly off. My friends screamed as I was lifted in the air. I breathed rapidly and screamed as well. Liam, Zoey, their Pokemon, and Umbreon shrank from my sight as I was carried higher in the air. The night wind blew in my face. I looked down to see a forest of trees that seemed tiny from up here. A sick feeling came over my stomach. I never really enjoyed heights.

"Let me go!" I pounded on the Skarmory.

"Okay, kid! Have it your way!" The man laughed.

The Skarmory's grip loosened. The Pokemon dropped me. I screamed as I fell towards the trees. Wind whipped my hair and my jacket back. My arms and legs flailed. I was going to die. This was it. I would never see Liam or Zoey again. I would never see my mom or my Pokemon, or Asher again either. I would never become a licensed trainer or let alone a Champion. I would never be able to confess my feelings to Zoey. I would never kiss a girl or collect any Gym Badges. I would never travel all of Kanto or any other region. I would never live a full life.

I closed my eyes and waited for death to claim me. But death never came. I opened my eyes and saw I was only a couple of feet from the ground. I was floating. I couldn't move anything below my neck. I looked to my right and saw a Pokemon standing on a tree branch. The Pokemon was tall and gray. A long purple tail blew in the wind. The Pokemon had a superior look. The Pokemon raised its three fingered hand. Suddenly, I was falling again.

After, that everything went black.

Author's note: Holy crap.....that just happened. So yeah, Griffin went all Batman when he was interrogating that guy. I hope you peeps caught on to the Pokemon that saved Griffin. If you didn't then your a lost cause. JK :D I didn't do a good job of describing him anyway. The chapter was short so expect the next one in a couple of days. What do you guys think of the chapter?
