20. Mutual Misunderstanding

"What happened to Riya's brother? Is he alright now?"

"He's fine" .

"Well that's good then", Rahul said falling back into the stone bench.

We were sitting in our favourite spot in the park.

"It was Arush's fault if you ask me", I said slightly annoyed at Rahul's nonchalance, "He shouldn't have let Krish take the alcohol".

"Sia said the same thing".

"Sia?", I asked surprised to hear that the flamy haired, snobby girl had stood for for Krish.

"Yeah, she's is not very fond of Arush", Rahul explained to me.

"How come Arush is even in your band?"

"Oh he's crucial", Rahul said "He knows all the crooks in Mumbai - well he would, seeing that he is one himself. It's very beneficial to have someone like him in the band. He hears stuff that the rest of us don't. Always has a ear to the ground. But he's also very loyal to us".

"Then maybe you shouldn't have had alcohol at the concert", I pointed out as I removed the scrunchie holding my ponytail and pulled my hair into a bun.

"Music concerts without alcohol? Zoya are you mad? I'm not too fond of these things either but most people come there just to drink and dance".

"Why would you do something you don't believe in?"

"Come on Zoya. Nobody likes boring stuff. People like excitement, frolic..the 'it' factor. Sia isn't into the red hair either but lots of people think it's really cool".

"So the Enchanted Stone exists just to do what people want to see them doing?", I asked angrily.

"The Enchanted Stone exists to sell itself, Zoya", Rahul snapped, "Use your brains!"

"I'm a science student Rahul", I said dryly "Maybe I don't understand marketing".

"Man, Zoya you are so naive. You don't know shit about the world", he said.

"I can't believe you just said that to me".

"Whatever", Rahul said a definite coldness in his voice as he got up, "I have to go..Sia said she'd call", but I was sure he was lying.

"Don't be such an asshole now Rahul. I'm just saying, why don't you just do what you actually believe in and take whatever fate gives you for that", I said making a huge effort to ease the mood but the tension in the atmosphere could've been cut with a knife.

"That's the only thing I hate", Rahul said turning his back to me now, "I decide my own fate, not some blasted stars in the sky".

I stood up losing my temper, "I'm leaving too".

"Should I come with you?", Rahul asked softening up slightly.

"No need. I know my way. But you seem to have lost yours Rahul".
