Promise

"Matt, Bryan, and Joey are still missing?! It's been eleven months and no one's looked?!" Mark exclaimed in disbelief, frantically pacing around his small recording room while Amy watched him from where she was standing in the doorway with a concerned expression.

He was in the middle of recording a video when Amy barged in and told him the news, causing him to stop everything that he was doing.

"Police ended their search today." Amy added quietly.

They didn't look hard enough then if they gave up so quickly, Mark thought coldly.

"How did you find out?" Mark sighed aloud, praying that the news was just a rumor floating around on the internet from misinformed fans.

"Amanda and Sarah told me, they're both freaking out and trying to keep the kids calm." Amy informed him solemnly.

"Was anyone else with them?" Mark interjected.

"Yeah, Connor was there twenty minutes before them and was hiding for a challenge that they were supposed to be recording." Amy nodded.

"Does Connor know anything?" Mark asked hopefully.

"Police interrogated him and he knows nothing since he was hidden in the woods and saw nothing." Amy explained, earning a small poorly disguised frown of disappointment from Mark.

"You talk to Sarah and Amanda to calm them down, I need to try looking for them myself otherwise I'll never forgive myself." Mark instructed firmly, speaking the last part in a softer tone as he darted out of his recording room, grabbing only his car keys and phone before walking out the door.

"It's nine at night!" Amy added in exasperation as she walked after him, stopping at the doorway of the house.

"They need help now, there's no way I'm waiting until tomorrow." Mark yelled fiercely over his shoulder, determination glittering in his chocolate brown eyes.

"Wait!" Amy called out, causing Mark to pause halfway to his car.

"You'll need this." Amy flashed him a small smile as she handed him his lucky flannel that he had recently gotten from Pax as well as a small black metal flashlight.

Mark nodded in appreciation before kissing Amy on the cheek and slipping the flannel on, taking the flashlight from her while climbing into his car.

Mark started the car before sending a text to Amanda, asking her where the missing trio was last seen and alerting her that Amy was on her way to talk to her.

"In the middle of the swampy woods next to a highway?" Mark frowned in confusion as he looked up the address Amanda sent him, re-reading it to make sure he was right.

Why would they have been in the middle of the woods in November late at night?, Mark wondered as he started his car and drove towards the coordinates.

"Oh yeah, they were recording a video." Mark remembered aloud.

"Can any of the BU crew come help me look?" Mark spoke aloud as he typed a text to Amanda before sending it to her.

"They're planning a search for tomorrow." Mark huffed as he read Amanda's reply aloud.

"I guess I'm on my own on this one." Mark muttered as he instinctively gripped the steering wheel tighter, beginning to feel more on edge than before.

The rest of the drive was silent as Mark pondered what he would do if the three of them were hurt. He could only carry one person at a time if their injury wasn't fatal, which would take more time than he would like.

Mark snapped out of his thoughts when he arrived at the outskirts of the woods, barely able to see a few feet ahead of him in the pitch black darkness looming in front of him like a heavy blanket, making him feel slightly suffocated.

"Hey Mark."

Mark jumped in surprise and whirled around to find Ethan and Tyler standing behind him with Tyler holding a black backpack.

Tyler's car was parked by Mark's with more emergency supplies inside in case they all somehow managed to get hurt.

"Don't scare me like that!" Mark hissed as he wrapped his flannel around him tighter, feeling a cold breeze begin to pick up speed.

At least I'm not alone, Mark thought in relief, relaxing slightly.

"Sorry." Ethan apologized sheepishly, taking the bag from Tyler and slinging it over his shoulder before following Mark and Tyler into the woods with his flashlight illuminating the way.

"It's fine, it's just...I'm glad you guys are here." Mark admitted.

"How did you guys know where I was?" Mark added.

"Amy told us what happened and that you were going out to look for them, so we decided to help since no one else can." Ethan grinned reassuringly.

"Why isn't anyone else here here?" Tyler questioned in confusion.

"The BU crew is doing a search party for them tomorrow and the police gave up." Mark recounted.

"What if they're dead or worse?" Ethan interjected thoughtfully.

"That's what I was thinking too!" Mark exclaimed.

"Matt! Bryan! J-Fred!" Tyler called out abruptly, shining his flashlight around them to see if he could spot them.

"Found something!" Mark announced as he walked to the left, getting Tyler and Ethan's attention as he knelt down by a large pit filled with mud.

Lying at the bottom of it was a half submerged head lamp with it's light bulb cracked.

"Someone fell down here." Mark stated as he pointed his beam of light into the pit, feeling his worry for the three rise.

"There's some footprints on the bank here around the pit." Tyler realized as he scanned the area, following the trail.

"They must've fallen in here, or at least one of them did and the others helped him out." Ethan observed aloud.

"We gotta find them fast then if one of them's hurt." Tyler decided.

"It's been months though, how can we even know if they're alive?" Ethan spoke up quietly.

"They're alive." Mark growled in fierce determination that slightly startled his friends.

I refuse to believe that my friends have been badly hurt, or worse, in these woods for eleven months. They have to be alive, or I'll never forgive myself for not trying hard enough to find them, Mark thought tersely to himself as he activated his flashlight and started his search.

"You told the fans that you're taking a month long hiatus, right?" Tyler spoke up, yanking Mark from his thoughts.

"Yeah, I told them that I need to regain my creative energy and stuff." Mark answered absent mindlessly.

"We'll get you back home to your families guys." Mark whispered as he looked up at the starry sky above.

Wherever you are, I'll find you guys and bring you three back home, Mark promised.

Don't make promises you can't keep...
