Into The Woods
"Hey guys, welcome to the Team Edge livestream!" Matthias announced happily once his phone started recording. J-Fred peeked over Matt's shoulder and waved with his usual goofy grin, lowering the brim of his Team Edge hat slightly.
Instantly messages came flooding in the chat, most of them moving so fast that neither Matt nor J-Fred could read them.
"So as you all possibly know, it has officially been eleven months since we posted our first outdoors hunt challenge, which was the Bigfoot Hunt, since it's November now. To celebrate, our video will be very special as it will take place in the woods, but I won't say what creature we're hunting yet." Matt explained as he walked around the top floor of the office with J-Fred.
Matt paused outside of Bryan's office and checked the superchat that just came in, smirking at the challenge suggestion he saw.
"Ooh, J-Fred likey very much." J-Fred interjected excitedly with a smirk as he read the message.
"Bryancito, it's challenge time!" Matt boomed loudly as he burst into Bryan's office without warning.
Bryan nearly fell out of his chair in surprise before regaining his composure, shooting Matt a playful glare as Matt laughed at him.
"What's the challenge?" Bryan asked as he got up out of his chair, shutting off his computer.
"It's time for a BB...a Brother Battle." Matt stated with a giddy grin as he flipped his dyed white hair out of his face.
"I'll go hunt down Kevin and Marvin then." Bryan nodded, equally ecstatic as he hastily left the room.
"Alright guys, we're going on a little field trip." Matt stated as he held his phone out in front of him and left Bryan's office before turning and walking down the set of stairs to the bottom floor of the office.
Bryan was already there waiting for him and J-Fred with Marvin and Kevin standing beside him, blue NERF guns in their hands.
"Here." Matt offered as he walked over to the large rack of various NERF weapons and tossed J-Fred a red NERF gun before grabbing one for himself and walking over to the opposite side of the room.
"Hey Paully G, count us off!" Kevin instructed as he tightened his grip on his gun in preparation.
Paul emerged from the GG gaming room and leaned against the wall, watching them with a smirk of amusement on his face.
"I'll take the phone." Paul offered, taking it from Matthias before going back to his original position.
"Is everyone ready for the twenty-sixteen brother battle of the century?" Paul spoke in an announcer's voice that amped up the fans in the chat.
"ASAH!" Matt and J-Fred cried out as they raised their guns in the air.
"PAPAYA!" Bryan, Marvin, and Kevin cried back with equal ferocity, replicating Matt and J-Fred's movement.
"Three...Two...One..." Paul paused for dramatic affect, glancing between the two teams as they hunched down as if preparing to pounce like predators hunting their prey.
"Go!" Paul abruptly barked.
The five jumped into action, J-Fred taking cover behind a white plastic chair while Matt pressed his back against the wall next to the large white fridge, occasionally barely poking his arm with the gun out to fire a few shots at the other brother's before ducking back.
"Why is there three of them? I think that's cheating!" J-Fred complained in a fake whiny tone as he fired a shot, the foam bullet whizzing through the air down the hall before bouncing off of the door that led to the warehouse and falling to the floor.
"It's not my fault I have two brothers!" Bryan pointed out as he returned fire, the bullet whizzing dangerously close to Matt's ear.
"I can't tell if he just insulted us or not." Kevin admitted in confusion, earning a laugh from Marvin as they held their ground in front of J-Fred.
"The chat seems to be very evenly divided as far as cheering for teams." Paul mused aloud as his eyes scanned the fast paced chat.
"Guys, put hashtag Matt-Fred if you're on our side, or hashtag...I don't know how to combine three names." J-Fred admitted as he peeked out from his cover again and shot at Marvin.
"Hashtag-"
Marvin broke off before he could finish his sentence when the foam bullet hit him in the forehead before soundlessly falling to the carpeted floor.
"Marvin is down!" Paul called out as Marvin sank to the ground, sprawling out with his eyes closed.
"You will be avenged!" Bryan promised Marvin as he fired a shot at J-Fred.
Direct hit in the chin.
"J-Fred is down!" Paul yelled.
"Aw come on man!" Matt yelped as he barely dodged a foam bullet from Kevin.
"Majority is cheering for team Kryan now." Paul called out.
"Lets charge him!" Kevin advised as he jogged in a rapid zig zag pattern towards Matt.
Matt fumbled with his gun, but managed to hit Kevin in the neck nonetheless.
"Kevin's out!" Paul stated as Kevin crumpled to the ground a few feet from Matt.
"Oh shoot I need to reload!" Matt exclaimed frantically as he dropped to the ground in his knees, scrambling to find bullets.
"Game over." Bryan muttered under his breath as he pulled the trigger, firing his last bullet at Matt.
The bullet hit Matt in the ear.
"No!" Matt cried out as he collapsed to the ground in defeat, unmoving as Bryan reloaded his gun and released a barrage of bullets on him while Kevin and Marvin cheered in victory.
"That's what you get for having large ears!" Marvin laughed, playfully flicking Matt's ear while he was still on the ground.
Matt retaliated by abruptly sitting up and slapping Marvin's hand away, shooting him a glare that failed to hide his grin.
"Alright we gotta get to recording guys, but thank you all for watching!" Paul waved goodbye, as well as the rest of the crew before ending the livestream.
"So, what're we hunting this time?" Bryan spoke up, clapping his hands together.
"There's a ghost in the woods that needs taken care of, and it's up to Bryan, Matt, and J-Fred to do it." Paul informed the group in an over dramatic, spooky tone meant to scare them.
"Who's the ghost?" J-Fred snorted in amusement.
"Boo!"
Everyone jumped when Connor popped out of the closet next to the stairs.
He was dressed in all white with face paint to look him look dead and somewhat scary.
"It's about time he came out of the closet, am I right?" Matt snickered, earning laughs from everyone.
"Alright, I got the bags you guys are using here." Connor informed Bryan, Matt, and J-Fred, ignoring Matt's comment as he turned around and reached back into the closet to retrieve three identical black backpacks.
Matt reached for one, only to have Connor hold them back so they were out of reach.
"Not yet, wait until we get out there." Connor reprimanded playfully.
"Fine." Matt huffed in defeat, giving up on trying to grab a bag.
Together Matt, Bryan, and J-Fred climbed into Matt's car to go to the swampy somewhat wooded area close to the highway after giving Connor a twenty minute head start.
It was evening, so the swampy woods were dark and reminded them of Slender Man due to the eerie ambiance as the trio got out of the car and flipped on their headlamps attached to their go pros strapped to their heads.
"This place looks muddier than I remember." J-Fred muttered, wrinkling his nose in disdain at the muddy ground around them.
"True." Bryan agreed as he took a step forward, his shoe sinking an inch into the ground with a loud sucking sound that made Matt cringe.
"It also looks much creepier at night." Matt remarked, summing up everyone else's thoughts.
"I ain't afraid of no ghost." Bryan scoffed confidently before marching forward into the vast unknown
Matt and J-Fred exchanged glances before following him in, shivering as a cold fall breeze blew over their bare arms.
"What even is the name of the ghost we're bothering?" Bryan yawned.
"It's name is Connor the...Whining." J-Fred decided, earning a snort of amusement from Bryan.
"Legend has it that Connor the Whining can only be seen when winners unlike him are present, making him vengeful due to jealously." Bryan chimed in with a mock serious tone.
The breeze abruptly picked up speed, causing goose bumps to spread across the group's arms.
"Why is it so cold?" Matt complained, rubbing his arms.
"It's November you doofus." J-Fred pointed out.
"Alright, we ready to record?" Bryan interjected.
"We'll add the intro later after we get the actual challenge done since it's dark and I wanna be out of here fast." Matt decided.
"I'll go somewhere and find my bag. Spoilers, I'm gonna win." Matt smirked as he activated his camera.
"We'll see about that." Bryan countered as he walked to the left with his camera on.
J-Fred flipped his camera on before walking forward.
The three were barely far apart when Matt and J-Fred heard Bryan let out an alarmed yell, accompanied with the sound of squishing mud and shattering glass.
"Ow!" Bryan cried out in pain, his head lamp light flickering feebly before giving out completely.
"Bryan?" J-Fred called out, looking around for him as he ran back with Matt following suite.
"Down here!" Bryan replied with a grimace, his body covered in thick soupy mud that turned his skin a darker shade of brown and clumped in his hair.
Matt and J-Fred looked to their right and was surprised to see a somewhat deep pit beside them filled with mud at the bottom.
"Isn't this the same pit I fell into for the Bigfoot challenge?" Bryan grunted as he managed to army crawl up the side of the pit slightly.
"Yeah." J-Fred realized as he bent down to help Bryan up.
"Great." Bryan hissed sarcastically, gritting his teeth in pain.
"You okay?" Matt asked, his eyes shining with concern and a tinge of fear.
"I'm good, let's just get out of here." Bryan swallowed hard as he tried, but failed, to hide his pain.
That was when Matt and J-Fred's lights went out.
"Dang it!" Matt snapped in frustration, smacking the lamp to see if that would fix it.
"Can you walk Bryan?" J-Fred asked hastily, eager to leave as soon as possible.
"No, my ankle's twisted and I'm stuck in the mud." Bryan replied, his tone conveying his poorly disguised panic.
"Give me your hand!" Matt commanded.
Together with the combined efforts of J-Fred and Matt, they managed to heave Bryan out of the pit and onto stable ground, allowing him to sling his arms around J-Fred and Matt's shoulders to keep him standing.
"Come on, we gotta go." Matt prompted, helping Bryan limp his way forward.
They were almost out of the desolate wooded area when an unknown force pushed them back with enough force to send them flying back and slam into a tree before they fell to the ground dazed.
Matt, Bryan, and J-Fred's cameras continued recording as the trio passed out in the mud, their bodies falling deathly still as a dark shadow loomed over them.
Something here seems foul...
