02: Pike is Dead. . .

I stood on behind Pike, while Chasity was back in Daycare, luckily they did overnights for me so I could be here. I was still in my attire listening to everyone chatter about everything that is happening with John Harrison. I had a feeling that this was something more, but I couldn't say a thing. I trusted my gut, I always did. But I feel like something was amiss, I wonder if my father ever talked about him? I racked my brain just to think about it, but nothing was popping up.

"Thank you for meeting on short notice." Marcus said to everyone in the room as he walked in and put his hand out quickly. "Be seated." And everyone took a seat and I stood there behind James and Pike, listening. "By now some of you have heard what happened in London. The target was a Starfleet data archive, now it's a damn hole in the ground. Forty-two men and women are dead. One hour ago, I received a message from a Starfleet officer who confessed to carrying out this attack, that he was being forced to do it by this man."

A photo of John Harrison shows up in front of everyone on their computer monitor. He looked. . . kind of familiar. . .

"Commander John Harrison. He's one of our own and he is the man responsible for this act of savagery. For reasons unknown, John Harrison has just declared a one man war against Starfleet and under no circumstances are we to allow this man to escape Federation space. You here tonight represent the senior command of all the vessels in the region. And in the name of those we lost, you will run this bastard down. This is a manhunt, pure and simple, so let's get to work."

Something caught my attention, but I ignored it. There was a pause while Marcus continues speaking.

"Earth's Perimeter sensors have not detected any warp signatures leaving the system, so we know he can't be far." as Marcus talks Kirk looks at his monitor and the data gathered on Khan and his attack in London. "You will park your ships in a blockade formation and deploy search vehicles and landing parties to run down every lead. This man has shown willingness to kill innocent people, so the rules of engagement are simple. If you come a cross this man, and fear for your life and the live of those nearby, you are authorized to use deadly force on the subject."

'Deadly force?' I thought in silence. 'He must be that dangerous if we have to use deadly force.'

As Marcus is talking Kirk looks at the reconstructed images of Khan at the London attack, Kirk notices Khan carrying a bag, Kirks whispers to Pike. "What's in the bag?"

"James, not now." Pike hisses back.

"It doesn't seem odd to you that he targeted an archive? It's like bombing a public library." James retorts making me look at him in wonder. I will always trust his instincts, but something was not adding up.

"Chris, everything okay there?" Marcus questions seeing them not paying attention to what he was saying.

Pike clears his throat quickly and responds. "Yes, sir. Mr. Kirk is just acquainting to his new position as first officer."

"You got something to say, Kirk, say it. Tomorrow is too late." Marcus tells James now making me slightly uneasy.

"I'm fine, sir, my apologies." James replies and Marcus shakes his head.

"Spit it out, son, don't be shy."

I take a deep breath as James speaks. "I ju. . ." Something was certainly weighing down James' mind about this. "Why the archive?" questions James. "All the information is public records, if he really wanted to damage Starfleet. . . this could be just the beginning."

"Beginning of what, Mr. Kirk?" questions Marcus, very interested and very curious to what the ex-Captain had to say.

"Sir, in the event attack protocol, all mandates." James responded quickly. "In Senior Command all Captains and First Officers in Starfleet HQ right here. . ." James was silent while Spock was speaking.

Oh. . . My god! My heart was pounding, he can't attack here. . .

". . .In this room."

"It is curious Harrison would command a jump ship without warp capability-" Spock had reminded them and I shakily look over seeing a red light right near the window, before I could get a good look, and see everyone standing up to see what was going on, I hear James yell out.

"CLEAR THE ROOM!"

A shot is fired and I scream in pain as three inches of skin is torn from my side, and I land on the ground, very bloody, I shake and look down seeing how bad it is I heard hissing sounds come from the wound, I let out some tears because it hurt so much, it burned! I look up and see everyone being shot, I was in shock, as adrenaline kicked into my system and I ignored the pain in my side trying to help people get out of the way. I feel someone touch my shoulder and I turn to see James. My breath caught my throat and I couldn't breathe. Amends wanted to come out, same with the 'I'm sorrys' but I couldn't talk. More tears fall from my eyes as James shoves me under the table before I was shot again.

"Ja-James!" I call out in worry seeing him run off to do something, stop this maybe? But my voice couldn't be heard over the sound of everyone screaming and the shots. Shots continue shooting everyone in it's path. I look around in shock seeing everyone dying in front of me, I look and see Spock trying to save people, until I followed his gaze and saw Pike trying to crawl away from the blasts. I then was in shock when I saw Pike shot right in the chest. Oh no! "Da-DADDY!"

When those words escaped my mouth, I was shock myself, but - that thought was quickly gone as my heart sank, Spock ran up to his aide and dragged him away from the fire. I quickly followed him and tears escaped my eyes. When some tears landed on his uniform, I knew I'd break down more.

"Daddy. . ." I began as more tears fell and I swallowed my saliva that was building up. I was shaking. "Chasity is going to ask where you are, and I don't even know what to tell her. . ." Silence was behind me, and I swallowed again. "I understand now. . . I should've done that, I'm sorry. . ." More tears fell from my eyes.

I closed my eyes, crying hard ignoring the steps that were behind me. James sat near me checking Pike's pulse and confirming to himself that he's dead, and he started tearing up and crying onto Pike's chest making me just cry more. When he sat up he grabbed my shoulder and let me cry to his, I clung to James' blazer as Spock watched. When we finally let go, I was sad, I turned my head away making my heart weigh more, my stomach was churning and I was numb.

"I. . ." I started saying and looked at them. "I have to go!" With that, I ran off to find out if Chasity's daycare was alright.

~*Edge of Glory*~

I hug Chasity close, making sure she understood that I love her, and James was standing there watching us, I knew he was depressed after Pike's death, but Chasity couldn't understand right now what was going on, I smile lightly his way pushing Chasity towards him, Chasity stood right near his leg and James touched her soft locks on her head gently as she began hugging his leg close. She knew something was wrong, but she didn't wanna ask questions. She was only eighteen months, how could she understand something this. . . complex?

'What am I supposed to tell her?' I thought in question. 'I promised James and Spock I wouldn't say a thing to her but - I think she deserves to know. . .'

I saw McCoy earlier after the attack and he tended to my wounds, I look like I've been through hell though.

Sighing sadly, I smile once more to her when someone called on the comm and James answered it skeptically.

"Yeah. . ." James answered and Spock's voice was heard on the comm replying back to James.

"Commander, Mr. Scott has found something in the wreckage of Harrison's ship. He has asked to see us right away." James looked at me and I nod, as he grabs Chasity and we ran her to the Daycare and wishing her a good day until this was over. She smiles and waves to us and we met up with Spock and we ran to the spot we were meeting up with Scott.

"Captain, I found this in the crashed jump ship, sir. This is how the bastard got away." Scott explains as we all came to a stop.

"What do you mean, Scotty?" I ask him looking at it.

"It's a portable transwarp beaming device." Scott replies to my question and looks at James.

James looks at the device and then back at Scott, "Can you figure out where he went?"

"I already did, sir, and you're not gonna like it." Scott replies with a down voice. "He's gone to the one place we...we just can't go."
