01: Six Months Later
I sat down in my chair, typing away on the computer making sure the files were there and delivered even they needed it. I sigh and look outside seeing the blue sky, wondering what Chasity is doing, I haven't seen her in a few hours and I hated being away from her, especially when I was traveling with James.
I do admit though, I miss Chekov, he actually made everything fun! Sighing quietly I look outside, wondering what's going on on the ship without me, and I wondered if - James is causing more trouble than usual. Pike seems to be on edge with everything, and I wondered why. I kept quiet about it because I didn't want to upset Pike, if he was upset the world is upset. I heard the door slide open and I turn my head to see Pike with an frown on his face and now - I was worried.
"Admiral Pike. . . is something-" Before I could finish, Pike puts his hand up and I went quiet.
"I want you to take a break and go see Chasity, Kirk and Spock are showing up and I need to get things straightened out, then afterwards, I want you to come back for the meeting."
I nod getting up straightening my blazer out and dusting off my skirt I salute Pike's way while walking off with a short smile on my face. I was glad to get a slight break, I wanted to see Chasity for awhile, and I'm glad he let me! When the door opened showing James and Spock, I pause mid walk with a frown on my face. James smiles my way as if nothing had happened I look at Spock and send him a courteous smile and move out of their way so they could walk in and go see Pike. After they walk by, I quickly run out, and going to see Chasity at the Daycare that was a few blocks away.

"Uneventful. . ." Pike paused looking down at the reports from the Starship crew.
"Admiral?" James began speaking wondering what's going on. Pike looks up not very happy. But continues speaking.
"That's what you describe the survey in Nibiru in your Captain's Log." Pike said with a very annoyed tone, James chuckles and continues speaking.
"Ah, yes, sir. I didn't wanna waste your time going over the details."
Pike sighs. "Yeah." He pauses and continues. "Tell me more about this volcano. Data says it was highly volatile, if it were to erupt, it would wipe out the planet."
"Well, let's hope it doesn't, sir." James replies looking at Pike directly. He was so full of himself, I was listening behind the closed door with a sleeping Chasity.
"Something tells me it won't." Pike says looking at the Captain of Star fleet.
"Uh...well, sir, volatile is all relative. Maybe our...data was off." James tries to defend not looking at him.
"Or maybe it didn't erupt, because Mr. Spock detonated a cold fusion device inside it, right after a civilization that's barely invented the wheel, happen to see a Starship rising out of their ocean!" Pike yells at James as Spock looks at him and I shake my head breathing out loudly. Pike looks at Spock and finishes. "That is pretty much how you explained it, is it not?"
"Admiral. . ." Spock begins to speak but James interrupts him from talking.
"You filed the report?" questions James looking at Spock accusingly. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I incorrectly assumed that you would be truthful in your Captain's Log." Spock defended himself looking at James.
"Yeah, I would have been if I didn't have to save your life." James reminded him and I roll my eyes at him.
"A fact for which I am immeasurably grateful and the very reason I felt it necessary to take responsibility for the actions taken by. . ." Spock continues but James finishes.
"Responsibility? Yeah. That'd be so noble, Pointy, if you weren't also throwing me under the bus." James says and I was shocked. What the hell?
"Pointy? Is that a derogative reference?" Spock questions his Captain. I then couldn't take anymore and I left so I could hang out with the now awake Chasity.
Pike gets up and continues speaking before it could get any worse. "Gentlemen, Starfleet's mandate is to explore and observe, not to interfere."
"Had the mission according to plan, Admiral, the indigenous species would never have been aware of our interference." Spock reminds Pike and Pike walks to him.
"That's a technicality!" Pike snaps at him while Spock stands his ground.
"I am Vulcan, sir. We embrace technicality."
"You givin' me attitude, Spock?" questions Pike.
"I'm expressing multiple attitudes simultaneously, sir. To Which are you referring?" asks Spock.
"Out." commands Pike and nods his head at the door. "Your dismissed, Commander." Spock looks at James and then walks out of the office seeing me and Chasity playing around in her play-pen.
"I take it, it went bad in there because you guys interfered with the species?" Spock nods and I chuckle. "You know Chasity, daddy is silly and he needs to stop that, huh?"
"Yes!"
"Do you have any idea what a pain in the ass you are?" questions Pike towards James who nods in reply.
"I think so, sir."
"So, tell me what you did wrong? What's the lesson to be learned here?" Pike asks James not even looking at him.
"Never trust a Vulcan." James said bluntly.
"Oh, see. You can't even answer the question. You lied! On an official report, you lied. You think the rules don't apply to you cause you disagree with them." Pike calls him out looking at him angrily.
"That's why you talked me into signing up in the first place, that's why you gave me your ship."
"I gave you my ship because I saw greatness in you. And now I see you haven't got an ounce of humility."
That's almost what I said to him, James remembered. "You don't have an ounce of self-restraint." James shakes that thought out of his head and looks at Pike. "What was I supposed to do? Let Spock die?"
"You're missing the point."
"No, I don't think I am, sir!" James retorts in a loud voice. "What would you have done?"
"I wouldn't have risked my first officer's life in the first place. You were supposed to survey a planet, not alter its destiny! You violated a dozen Starfleet regulations and almost got everyone under your command killed." Pike explains.
"Except I didn't!" James yells at him. "You know how many crew I've lost since I took captainship?"
"That's your problem!"
"Not one!"
"You think you're infallible!"
"Not one."
"You think you can't make a mistake, it's a pattern with you! The rules are for other people."
"Some should be."
"And what's worse is you're using blind luck to justify you're playing God!" Pike takes a breath as he continues. "Given the circumstances, this has been brought to Admiral Marcus' attention. He convened a special tribunal to which I was not invited. You Understand what Starfleet regulations mandate be done at this point?"
I was shocked, Admiral Marcus. . .
"They've taken the Enterprise away from you. They're sending you back to the academy." Pike finishes.
"Admiral listen. . ."
"No, I'm not listening. Why should I listen?"
I sigh and ignore the rest, and look at Chasity. Big hazel eyes, blond hair, pale-ish skin like James, beauty mark right near her eye. In a way, she looked more like James then she does me, I don't know if I should be happy or not about it. . .
~*Edge of Glory*~
James walks out seeing me playing with Chasity as she sat in her playpen while she took one of her toys and began bouncing it around. James stopped, watching her. Chasity, as if feeling someone watching her, she looks up smiling huge. I blink turning around seeing James standing there.
"I heard. . ." I began speaking. "I kind of agree with -"
"Don't." James snapped gently holding up his hand. I stopped talking and pushed my hair back gently. "I don't need another lecture, I got it from Pike and I don't need it from you."
I took a deep breath, and hesitantly began speaking. "James, just calm down, you're scaring the baby." James turned his face to see Chasity staring to him with a look of small fear in her face. "Secondly, James, I was going to say I kind of agree with Pike, you have no ounce of self-restraint and you need to keep it professional when with dealing with these guys.
"These guys don't mess around, James, that's all I'm saying." I explain quietly, picking up Chasity so James could see her, "and besides, who is going to be a daddy to Chasity if you're gone?" I smile in question as I hand her to him, quickly taking his hat and he held her gently, not wanting to hurt her. "It's okay, she knows who you are, James."
Chasity looked at him with her hazel eyes, he lightly smiled her way and hugged her close, as if not wanting to let her go. I smile keeping his hat close to me, making sure that it was safe. We may not be together because of his playboy attitude, but I can't help but keep telling myself that I'm not in love with him. I can't love him, not the way he acts, the way he puts his crew lives in danger when he's not supposed too, but - he always comes through to save us. But my heart keeps telling me. . .
I'm in love with him.
