A/N: I'm slowly dying on the inside, so you get a heavy dosage of angst! Because who doesn't love torturing these innocent babes?

(Heavily influenced by My Happy Ending by Avril Lavigne.)

It had been a full week since Tord had disappeared from your lives again, and all four of them were devastated.

Edd had relapsed into his self-destructive habits (from before you all lived together), shutting himself away in his new apartment for days at a time without contact. He'd started chugging diet cola around the clock and didn't seem to care about eating or sleeping, just camping out in his bed with his iPod and listening to music so loudly he couldn't hear the few times Matt tried banging on his door to make him come out. It took Tom tearfully getting the management to open the door with their keys to get him to even take out his trash, which was overflowing with cans. He'd taken Edd out to your favorite cafe to get some good food and had him watch movies with (y/n) in her apartment while he got Matt to help him clean and get Ringo some new litter.

Matt had reverted back to his angry self from before he moved in, spending more and more time down at the gym just punching things. After only a few days of this, the other three kept getting complaints that he was breaking all of their punching bags and that he'd have to find better outlets for his mood. He flat-out rejected (y/n)'s idea to take up crafts, instead hitting up the pubs late at night and picking random fights with strangers. Every night he'd get sent home in tears, blubbering about how he couldn't take it anymore. It crushed their hearts to see him so broken, but all they could do was help him to bed and leave some pain relievers with a glass of water on his nightstand.

Tom was trying his best to keep it together, but everyone could see how horribly it was affecting him. He spent the first few days crying himself to sleep and checking in on everyone almost obsessively. It was as if he was trying to convince himself that he was fine.

But it wasn't fine.

And (y/n) remained silent. She stayed alone by herself as much as she could without Tom coming in and sitting with her on the sofa while she watched her soaps. She was still struggling to come to terms with all that had happened, and she still couldn't comprehend why the boy she loved had so callously broken her heart.

She hardly left the apartment building, living mostly off of whatever cereal that was still in her cupboards and mediocre tap water.

After a full week of living like this, she finally decided to go shop for food. After showering and putting on a fresh tee-shirt and a (f/c) hoodie over top her stained gray sweatpants and (f/c) sneakers, she stuffed her hands into her pockets (after making sure she had everything) and walked down to the nearest convenience store.

She just bought whatever was cheapest, including a ton of ramen and bottled iced coffee. She did get a few small boxes of cereal and a carton of (f/juice). By the time she was done, it was already five in the evening and the sun was starting to set.

She walked along, humming a broken tune to one of her favorite songs, when she suddenly bumped into someone, dropping one of the bags.

"Shit," she hissed, stooping to pick it up. "Sorry, man, I didn't see where I was--"

"(y/n)?" A familiar voice stammered, and when she looked up she saw who else but Tord, fidgeting with his blue uniform sleeves nervously. He looked so much different; the entire right side of his face was scarred and torn-up under the haphazard bandages, and his right hand looked to be a prosthetic.

"T-- Tord?" She gasped so sharply she choked for a second, leaving her bags on the ground as she stared at her former love. "What are you doing here?"

"I-- I can't tell you," he shook his head, looking near to tears. "I'm sorry, b-- but they--"

"How could you do this to us, Tord?" She started, her hands clenching into fists. She didn't notice the way he flinched away. "You were our friend! We were so excited for you to come home, and what do you do?"

"(y-- y/n)," He whimpered, raising his hands in defense, "please, I can explain--"

She exploded. She thrust a finger toward the apartment, speaking in a low, deadly voice.

"Edd's in relapse right now, just drinking his health away in that shithole apartment, Matt's getting drunk every night and going out picking fights, and Tom!" Her voice rose until she was yelling, and passerby gave them weird looks as they walked past. "Tom is losing his fucking mind trying to keep us all happy! You know how much your little stunt affected him? He's this close to a mental breakdown and none of us can stop it!" She pinched her fingers very closely together, her own eyes brimming with tears.

Tord started shaking, lowering his head in shame. Droplets of tears started falling to the sidewalk, dampening it.

"And I," her voice broke so suddenly she had to swallow hard and try again. "And I, I loved you. You were more than my friend, Tord. I wanted to spend my life with you."

"I-- I-- I--" he blubbered, covering his face with his hands.

He looked up at her, his face damp with tears, his lip trembling. It broke her heart, and she relaxed her fists, sighing as she opened her arms.

He wanted to run away from her, run away from the self-hatred and guilt that threatened to overtake him, but at the last moment she pulled him in by the shoulders and squeezed him so tight, it was almost like they were back at Edd's house again. Back before the kidnapping, before the manipulation, just them again.

The waterworks turned on full blast and he hid his face in her hoodie, bawling his heart out.

She did her best to keep her composure, running a soothing hand across his back as she tried to keep her own tears at bay.

"I'm s-- so sorry-yyyy," he wailed. "I didn't-- didn't want to hu-- urrrt you--"

"I'm sorry too," she whispered, letting out a sob. "I'm so sorry for yelling, Tord."

He continued to blubber incoherent apologies into her arms, the two reunited in a bittersweet meeting.

"We'll-- we'll make it work, okay?" She promised through a shaky voice, threading her hands through his caramel-blond hair. "We'll be fine. Everything will be totally fine."
