Future!Edd x Dead!Reader - Once Upon a Dream
A/N: Just a quickie for everyone's favorite snarky time traveller. (The song used is Lana Del Rey's version of Once Upon a Dream.) Enjoy!

They were alone in the ballroom once again.
The sky outside the floor-length windows was a navy, almost completely black, in the dead of the night, and the moon shone round and full in the sky, the stars twinkling about it like the tulle on her dress.
As always, she shone with an otherworldly beauty, her skin perfect and smooth, yet with some kind of deathly pale he'd come to recognize almost more than how she'd looked before.
She smiled, her lips a beautiful (lip/shade) that complimented her appearance, her hair done up in gorgeous waves, threaded with soft (f/c) roses.
Her dress fit her as perfectly as the dress she'd worn on their prom night, although this one was a (f/c), done with jewels threaded into the bodice that twinkled in the mood lighting and made her look even more ethereal. Thin layers of sparkling tulle created a fading effect, ending in a brilliant pattern of the same jewels in her bodice at the bottom of the skirt. It swished about her legs as they waltzed, just as gracefully as the princesses in those old Disney movies she'd idolized growing up.
"I know you, I waltzed with you once upon a dream..."
Faint echoes of music resonated through the empty hall, and as (e/c) eyes met brown, she almost seemed to fade away in his arms.
"I know you, the gleam in your eyes so familiar a gleam..."
His name on her lips, though he could hardly hear her over the haunting voices.
(y/n) smiled anyway, brushing his knuckles with her thumb.
She hardly ever spoke during these nights, nor did she have to. He could imagine her pleasant voice echoing about the walls, or her giggling laughter at one of his horrible jokes, just like she always used to.
"And I know it's true, that visions are seldom all they seem..."
The silence between them didn't need to be filled; it was just them, dancing together, their love the only thing they could think of.
It had been a long, long time since she had put on a gown like this. Not since high school years ago, when she'd been elected prom queen and some other guy, prom king. She'd saved him a dance anyway, the tiara glittering beautifully on her (h/c) curls.
It had been a long time since he'd seen her like this: so peaceful, so happy. It felt like a lifetime ago that they'd been in each other's arms.
She leaned in and, pausing in their steps, she kissed him. She felt as feather-light as she always had, gentle, yet he could feel the love that swirled in her heart just from the way she held his hand.
"But if I know you, I know what you'll do: you'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream...--"
Her lips were sweet, yet fading. He tried to return the kiss as desperately as he could, but she melted away in his arms, and when the last notes of the song faded, he was alone in the ballroom.
Just like every night he dreamt of her, he was left calling her name, searching around for the love that had been stolen away.
And just like every night they danced, he, too, melted away from the ballroom, and as he awoke with a gasp, her name on his lips like a prayer, he looked around and remembered.
He remembered, and wept. (y/n) had died years ago, a casualty in a fight that wasn't ever her own. Her smiling face stared back at him from the picture frame on his bedside desk, and he swore to himself that he would find a way to bring her back to life.
One way or another, they would be together again.

A/N: For anyone wondering what the dress is, here you go:
Just imagine it in whatever your favorite color is. As always, I don't own the picture.
Anyway, please tell me what you thought and feel free to request!
