First Day

You are Eddie's little sister; you were dropped off on Waynes porch in the middle of the night by yours and Eddie's father with a note when you were just a child and Eddie is the one who opened the door. Ever since then, he has been very protective of you and even though he was a kid himself, he helped take care of you.
Its your first day at Hawkins High and Eddie is nervous because of how quiet you are, that the people who have spent years taunting and bullying him will eat you for breakfast. He soon learns, after you've spent years being his little shadow he has nothing to worry about at all.

You sat down at the kitchen table and looked around. Your uncle Wayne was usually in the kitchen making breakfast but today, your brother, Eddie was in his place. Wayne always made sure to be there for the first day of school every year but this year, which was probably the most important first day of school of your life he didn't appear to be home.
"Where's Wayne?" You asked.

Eddie turned and looked at you.
"He called this morning and said he was pulling a double. He says he's really sorry he couldn't be here. He knows how important today is to you."
"It's okay." You shrugged. You knew Wayne worked very hard to keep a roof over your head.
"Besides, you still have me." Eddie smirked. You looked just past him at an orange glow in the pan on the stove.
"Uh..Eddie the....eggs are on fire." You said. Eddie whipped around to the stove
"Shit shit shit!" He said as he took the pan off the stove and threw it in the sink and turned the water on.
"Open the windows!" He hollered as smoke started filling the kitchen.

You got up and ran around the trailer opening windows. You opened the front door and started waving it back and forth to fan out the smoke.

"Is that brother of yours starting fires again?" the crotchety old bat that lived next door to you squawked.
"Not on purpose this time Mrs. Martin." You sighed.

Once the smoke was mostly cleared out you shut the door and walked back into the kitchen.
"Good news, the trailer is still standing. Bad news, that was the last of the eggs." Eddie said.
"It's okay." You shrugged again.
"I promised Wayne I would make you breakfast." Eddie said. You walked over to the fridge and opened the freezer. You grinned when you found the box of Eggos. you shut the freezer and turned around facing Eddie.
"Good idea, Squeak." Eddie grinned and took the box of Eggos. You were "unusually quiet" for a Munson according to Wayne so Eddie had been calling you squeak since you came to live with them.

"Breakfast is saved." Eddie said triumphantly as he pushed the toaster down. He turned back to look at you and noticed that you were wearing his old Iron Maiden tee shirt, you were significantly smaller than him, so his shirts kind of swallowed you, but they were a comfort for you. Eddie loved that you enjoyed a lot of the music that he listened to, you even loved his band Corroded Coffin. Wayne made Eddie take you with him to any after school things he had going on, including Tuesday nights when his band played at the hideout and Friday nights you tagged along to Hellfire club with him. Eddie made sure to never make you feel like a burden to him. Just as Wayne did for him.

"Wayne says this year you don't have to come with me everywhere if you don't want to." Eddie said.
"I like hanging out with you." You said and sat back down at the table as Eddie put the waffles on the table for you.
"I love that you like hanging out with me, but we agreed that you would try to make friends this year." Eddie said. "High school is rough, especially with pricks like Jason Carver ruling the school and lets face it, I have to graduate eventually, and I'm banking on this year being my year. But I want it to be yours too." Eddie smiled.

You shoved a fork full of waffles in your mouth. You did agree to try and make friends this year. You struggled with abandonment issues after being left with at the time, strangers. You found it hard to connect with other people.

Eddie picked up right away on your discomfort.
"Hey, I'm not saying you can't hang out with me anymore. I just want you to try to make friends of your own. Besides, you are required to hang out with me every Friday after school." Eddie said and grabbed something off of the counter and placed it on the table. It was something that was wrapped in newspaper.
"Sorry it's not super fancy." He shrugged.
"Not fancy? You wrapped it in the funnies! It's wrapping paper that I can read." You smiled.
Eddie gave you a smirk. "Open it."
You opened the package carefully, you did after all actually want to read the comics. When you opened it you flipped it over, and The Hellfire Club logo was showing. You gasped and pulled the shirt out.
"Is this mine?" You asked.

"Of course! You're officially in high school, which means, you are officially a member of Hellfire. I know you've followed along, and I know how much you actually liked being dragged along to Hellfire every friday. So you're in." Eddie smiled.

You stood up from your chair and almost tackled him as you wrapped your arms around him.
"Thank you Thank you Thank you!" You grinned and hugged him tightly. He wrapped his arms around you.
"You're welcome Squeak, Welcome to Hellfire." He said and rested his chin on the top of your head.

Eddie worried a lot about you. He worried about how you would do in high school without him around. It wasn't that he was stupid, but he purposely stayed behind a year so he could make sure you were going to be okay. You two were five years apart and you had basically stuck to him like glue since the night you were left on the porch. He knew you had trust issues, and abandonment issues. Hell, he knew you still had nightmares of being left, and he knew that you were scared to death you would be left again and he tried his hardest to make sure that you knew that wasn't going to happen.

Eddie pulled away and looked at his watch.
"Alright, finish your breakfast, we have to leave soon." Eddie said and ruffled your hair.

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

School so far had been kind of terrible. The three teachers you had so far didn't seem overly thrilled about another Munson being in their class. Your math teacher especially. He rolled his eyes when he called out your name for roll call. The cheerleaders and the jocks whispered about you as you walked through the halls, something about your brother being in a cult, and wondering if you were involved too. You wondered how Eddie put up with this shit for as long as he has.

You walked into your next class, which was art. You looked around the room.
"Just take the first empty seat you find. No assigned seats in my class." The teacher called from her desk. You looked at her and to your surprise there was a warm, welcoming smile on her face. You turned back to the classroom, your eyes scanning for an empty seat. You found one next to a red headed girl with headphones on. You walked over and took off your backpack and sat down at the desk. You looked at the girl next to you. She looked at you and pulled her headphones down.
"Hi." She said. This was the first person who had spoken directly to you all day.
"Hi." You said back trying to not look too surprised.

Before you got any further into the conversation the teacher started calling last names for roll call. You waited patiently for her to go through the alphabet to get to the M's
"Mayfield." She called.
"Here." The girl sitting next to you said.
"Munson." The teacher said next.
"Here." You said. There were a bunch of whispers around you. You sighed and rolled your eyes not even bothering to look at the girl sitting next to you figuring she probably didn't want anything to do with you either.

When it came time for Lunch, you couldn't have been happier. You hadn't seen your brother all day, not even in the halls. He was waiting for you at the entrance to the cafeteria.
"Hey Squeak." He smiled. You smiled back at him.
"How's it going so far?" He asked and stood in line with you to get food.
"Fine." you shrugged.
"You know I'm not buying that shit right? I know you." Eddie said. "Whats up?"
"I don't want to talk about it right now." You said. "I just want to eat a crappy cafeteria cheeseburger and forget the last 4 hours of my life." You said.
"That bad huh?" Eddie sighed.
"Something like that." You mumbled.
"Let them talk. Thats all it is is talk. You and I both know the truth and thats all that matters." Eddie said.
You didn't reply. You just moved up your space in line.
"Hey." Eddie said and turned you to face him.
"You aren't mad at me are you?" He asked.

You sighed.
"No Eddie, I'm not mad at you. I just don't know how I'm supposed to make friends when everyone is either terrified of me, or thinks I'm weird." You said and grabbed a tray and walked into the kitchen part of the cafeteria."
"It's just the first day. Everyones trying to figure their own shit out. You'll make friends I know you will." Eddie said and followed you through the kitchen while the lunch ladies filled your trays.

The two of you walked back into the dining area of the cafeteria. You looked around, overwhelmed. You never told Eddie, but you often ate your lunch alone in the girls bathroom because you didn't really talk to anyone and all of the tables were full. At least this year you could sit with him, Gareth and Jeff.
"Come on, we sit over here." Eddie said and began leading the way.

You followed him, and noticed that another guy with a Hawkins letterman Jacket was heading your way. Dont. just. Don't. You thought. Eddie was too busy paying attention to Jeff waving at the two of you to see him coming until the blonde haired pretty boy slapped the tray out of Eddie's hands.
"What the hell Carver?!" Eddie groaned.

Oh. This was Jason Carver. This was the asshat that tormented your older brother and his friends for the last 4 years.
It wasn't just the fact that Jason was deliberately being an asshole to Eddie, it was the fact that he likely knew that you guys didn't have the money to just buy another lunch.
"Oh, I'm sorry Freak, were you going to eat that?" Jason asked and walked back over and sat down with his friends who were laughing with him.

"Come on." Eddie sighed and guided you away from them and too his usual table.
"What a dick." Jeff sighed. "I'll share mine with you."
"Thanks man." Eddie said.
You set your tray down and looked back at Jason and his friends who were pointing at your table and laughing still.
"Come on Squeak, sit down and eat your crappy cafeteria burger before it gets cold and gets even crappier," Eddie said.
"Actually I'll be right back" You said.
"Where are you going?" Eddie asked but you had already started walking over to Jason's table.
"Oh shit." Eddie said and followed you. Eddie knew that while you were very quiet, once you had had enough it was a completely different story.

He cringed as you approached Jason.
"What do you want mini Munson?" Jason scoffed. You looked down at his tray at his burger that hadn't been touched yet except to put ketchup on it. You took the top bun off of the burger, licked it and smashed it back down on his burger. Then you picked up a handful of his fries and shoved them in your mouth. You picked up the chocolate milk and opened it and poured it all over the rest of the stuff on the tray. If your brother wasn't able to eat his lunch because of this prick than you'd be damned if Jason got to eat his lunch.

Jason stood up and lunged for you. However Eddie, knowing that was coming, grabbed the back of your shirt pulling you behind him. He let go of your shirt and grabbed Jason by the collar of his shirt.
"I've put up with your shit for 4 years Carver, but let me tell you now, if you lay one finger on my sister or look at her in a way I don't like I will break that fucking pretty face of yours." Eddie said. "Do we understand each other?" He asked.

One could cut the tension in the room with a knife, It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Jason pulled himself away from Eddie.
"Fucking freaks." He mumbled and nodded at his friends to follow him out of the cafeteria.
"Good talk Carver." Eddie called as Jason and his crowd walked away. Eddie turned back to you.
"What the hell was that?" Eddie asked with a serious look on his face. You started stumbling over words and he chuckled. "Relax, I was messing with you. That was fucking awesome." Eddie said.
"Yeah?" You grinned.
"Yeah." He nodded. "Come on lets go eat."
"Wait." You said and picked up another tray from the table that hadn't been touched and handed it to him.
"Thanks." Eddie chuckled and took the tray with one hand and put his free arm around your shoulders leading you back to the table.

Once you got to the table you went to sit down.
"Hey." Someone said from behind you. You turned around and saw that it was the girl from your art class.
"Hi." You said.
"I just wanted to say, what you did was awesome!" The girl grinned.
"Oh! Uh, thank you." You said and gave a small smile. "Someone had to do it."
"Well I'm glad it was you." The girl laughed.
"I'm Max, Max Mayfield." She said.
"[Y/N] Munson." You replied.
"I'm sitting over there if you want to come sit with me?"
No one had ever invited you to sit with them.
"Oh..Um.." You started and then looked at Eddie.
Eddie smiled and nodded.
"Go." he mouthed and moved his hands like he was shooing you away.
"Okay." You said and picked up your tray and followed Max to her table.
You looked back at Eddie and he was grinning ear to ear at you.

Eddie let out a sigh of relief. Seeing you be a complete badass and stand up to Jason, and seeing you already make a new friend on the first day made him feel better about graduating and leaving you here for the next 4 years of your life.
"You good Ed?" Gareth asked.
"I'm good." Eddie grinned. "I just think this year is finally my year."
"Yeah?" Jeff asked.
"Hell yeah 86 baby!" Eddie said and put his fist up in the air.
