CHAPTER 44

WARNING: Sorry if this chapter sucks, it's just that there's only two chapters of the story left, including this one. So my goal is to just finish it this weekend. May also have a lot of fowl language, because I swear a lot, so it's stuck in my vocabulary. Brace yourself my friends. This will be a long chapter. It's basically the last chapter so I'm cramming a lot into it. Enjoy.~

(Kitten's p.o.v)

Early in the morning, Edd and Eddy set out on a three day drive back to Calgary.

After Eddy told Edd about how Marie helped him to rescue him, he had his heart set on visiting her at the hospital.
Eddy was reluctant to agree to this, since Calgary was the last place he wanted be because of all that drama that just went down not even 24 hours ago.

(A/N No hate on Calgary though, it's just that since I live in Canada and the story takes place in Canada. I wanted to pick a place that was still in Canada, yet far from where the characters live. Since Alberta is far from where I live, but not ridiculously far, I just picked. So if I offended people who live there. My cousins live there. Long ass explanation)

So they packed their things up and started their drive.
It was very long and Edd slept through most of it, but they had finally made it.

The nurse told them what room they could find Marie in, they thanked her and was on their way.

They had finally reached her door.

"Well, we're here." Said Eddy.

"Yeah.." Edd said softly looking down at his feet.

"Are you nervous babe?" Eddy asked calmly putting putting his hand on his shoulder to show support.

He nodded.

"Yes, it's just that, I haven't really seen Marie in so long. We were really close until one day, she just, left..."

"..I know how you're feeling Edd, but she helped me get you back so I'm sure that she really cares about you."

Edd nodded, still keeping his eyes on the door.

"Ok, I think I'm ready now."

Edd was just about to open the door before Eddy stopped him.
Edd looked away from the door and back at Eddy.

"Edd, I just wanted you to know that, what ever happens, I'm with you."

Edd smiled then opened the door.

In the room, there was Marie laying in the bed unconscious and her two sisters May and Lee in the room. Lee was sitting by the window sill and May was holding a little baby with freckles, brown eyes and little pink hairs.

(A/N if Marie can be born in the show with unnaturally blue hair, then why can't her brother have pink hair.)

Edd saw Marie laying there and he instantly felt guilty. He felt that if he had done a better job of protecting himself, then maybe Eddy and Marie wouldn't have put themselves in harms way to get him back. He felt like it was all his fault that she was in the hospital.

"I-is she go-ing to be o-ok?" He asked softy.

Lee just shrugged not looking at him.

Lee looked exactly the same as she did since childhood. Her large mass of curly red hair still covered her eyes.

May looked similar too, but she was much curvier now and even though she was sitting down you could clearly see that she was the shortest out of the three sisters. Edd wondered who the baby was that she was holding. Was she baby sitting? It couldn't possibly be her child could it? She was much to young. She was the youngest sister, about a year younger. So she should only be about 15 years of age. And 15 is way to young to have a child.

Edd walked up to Marie and sat by her bedside.

"Hey there~." Marie said, she turned her head to face Edd and opened one of her eyes half way.

"M-Marie, I don't know how I could possibly thank you enough for what you did for me. I ..."

"Don't sweat it." She interrupted. "We're friends, and that's what friends do. And besides, you went through hell and back for me, think of it as my way of saying thank you." She said with a weak and raspy voice.

Tears started to fall down Edd's cheeks.

"Cheer up pumpkin." She said.

"Don't tell me what to do dropout." They both said using their old nicknames for each other.

(I made up the nickname dropout, made up back story: Marie dropouts out of things too easily.)

Just then the doctor walked in interrupting their sweet little moment.

"Hello, Ms. Kanker, how are you feeling?" The doctor asked, he was a thirty year old handsome Latino man.

"I feel like ass." She said.

The doctor just ignored her choice of words.

"Well, I have good news, there are no signs of any internal bleeding and you are going to be just fine."

"Oh, well that's a relief, I wasn't sure if I was ready to go to hell. You know what? Scratch that, I'm not sure if hell is ready for me. " she said slyly.

"Ok..well you had lost a lot of blood, but luckily we found some one with the same blood type as you to donate their blood."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yes, would you like me to bring the person in?"

"Oh yeah, sure, why not?" She said sounding unenthusiastic.

The doctor called the person into the room.

When they came in Marie's eyes became as wide as saucers.

"Jen?"

"Um, hi?" Jen said timidly.

Edd looked at Marie then at Jen, then back at Marie.

Because he KNOWS. He knows what happened between them.

"Uh, do you want us to step out of the room or.." Edd started off.

"No no, it's ok, stay." Marie said keeping her eyes on Jen.

"What're you doing here?" She asked.

"Um well, I umm, heard you were in the hospital and came to see if you were alright."

"Why?! I thought you hated me!" Marie sniped causing Jen to flinch.

"I-I.." Jen started

"Leave." Marie said bitterly.

"L-Leave?" Jen said the a shaky voice balling their hands into fists. " I came a-all this way. I donated my blood to save you. AND YOU'RE TELLING ME TO LEAVE!!" Jens tears started to fall." You can't even say thank you?"

"Maybe we should get going!" Edd said starting to feel uncomfortable.

"I loved you, and you abandoned me" Marie said hurt.

"What was I supposed to do?! You changed!"

"So?! You're supposed to love me regardless!!"

"Ok, me and Edd will be leaving now, I'm glad you're doing better Marie, bye!" Eddy said dragging Edd out of there.

"Hehe, wow, that was awkward." Eddy said scratching the back of his neck.

Edd didn't respond, he was looking at his feet with a sad expression on his face.

"Baby, what's wrong?" Eddy said concerned. Pulling him close to his chest.

"..it's just that, Marie and Jen were so close. They really loved each other. They were even planing on getting married after Jen graduated from university since Marie didn't want to go to school after high school. And now look at them. I just.. I don't want that to happen to us."

Eddy turned Edd to face him.

"Edd, look at me. That's not going to happen to us, because we're going to talk about our problems with eachother. And I'm never going to abandon you or give up on you. We're not going to become like them or break up, ok?"

"Ok," Edd said softly. "I love you Eddy."

Eddy gave him a kiss on the lips.

"I love you too Edd. Are you ready to go home?"

Edd nodded. "I think so."

"Well good, because I have some things planned for us when we get back."

"Oooh, what kind of plans?" Edd said through his giggles.

"You'll see." Eddy said booping Edd's nose causing him to giggle even more.

(Time skip because I'm lazy)

"Well what do you think?" Asked Eddy.

"Eddy, this is amazing!" Edd said in total amazement.

Eddy ended up taking Edd to the restaurant with the black lights and the glow-in-the-dark sea creatures in the giant fish tanks.

"How did you afford this??" Edd asked.

"Haha, never mind that babe." Eddy didn't want to admit to Edd that he worked his ass off to afford this place. "Tonight is about us. Just relax and enjoy yourself, you really should after those rough last couple of months we had."

"You're right, thank you so much Eddy. You really didn't have to do this."

"Yes I did babe. How are we supposed to be officially dating when we never even went on a proper date yet?"

"What about that time you took me out for ice cream? Did that count as a date?"

"No, because then we weren't officially together and now we are." He explained.

The two spent the night laughing and talking about each other and the crazy things they used to do in their childhood. They talked about the scams they used to do, and how they used to love jawbreakers. They talked about how much they had changed and grew as a person over the years, and how they grew on each other over the past couple of months.

As much as they didn't want this night to end it was getting late and they would have to leave soon.

The two walked back to their car through the parking lot holding hands the whole way.

"Eddy, thank you so much for tonight, I had a really great time with you."

"I had a great time with you too Edd, I'm really glad you had fun to night. You're always stressing out so much about life and school and college. I'm glad to see you relax let lose"

"I'm glad too, it feels really good not to worry about the little things. Tonight was really the closest thing to perfect. To be completely honest I'm kind of sad that it's over."

"Who said anything about tonight being over?" Eddy said.

"What do you mean? What do you have planned?"

"You'll see."

(Time skip)

"Eddy! I can't see a thing!"

"Haha, that's kind of the point D."

Eddy had Edd blind folded and was guiding him to an unknown destination.

"Are we almost there Eddy?"

"Almost Baby, be patient." Eddy said with a grin on his face.

"Ok! We're here!" He said as they stopped walking.

Edd fumbled around trying to undo his blindfold, Eddy helped him to take it off.

Edd looked around complete awestruck of the beautiful scenery he saw before him.

"E-Eddy, it's beautiful!" He said looking around.

"Yeah, I had a feeling you'd say that."

Eddy took Edd to one of his favourite places on the planet.

The creek.

There was a picnic blanket laying there on the ground under a tree. And on each and every branch of that tree there was a beautiful paper lantern. Since there creek was away from street lights, millions beautiful stars decorated the night sky and added to the beautiful scenery.

"This is wonderful." He said looking at the stars above him. "Eddy, how did you know this is one of my favourite places to go?"

Eddy shrugged.

"Because, I listen to what you're saying Double D. I heard you talk about this place so many times in the past.

"Wow, I didn't know you were paying attention. I thought you were uninterested."

"Of course I'm interested in what you have to say, you're a very fascinating person Sockhead." He said using his old nickname causing Edd to blush. He took a seat on the blanket and patted the spot next to him. "Sit." He said.

Edd took a seat next to him and rested his head on his shoulder.

Eddy pulled him closer and to two just sat there cuddling in silence enjoying each other's company. No words needed to be spoken to express how much the young couple cared for each other.

Minutes later Edd was the first to break the silence.

"Eddy?"

"Mmhmm?"

"Thank you for taking me here, it's really beautiful."

"Not as beautiful as you."  He said in a baby talk voice.

"You're so cheesy." He said through giggles.

"Hey, I thought you liked all that corny romantic junk." He said jokingly.

Edd just laughed.

"Wow, it's seams like only yesterday we were children and you would be coming up with all of these crazy scams that I would go along with, all of the trouble we used to get ourselves into. And now look at us." Edd said looking up at the stars.

"Yeah." Said Eddy. " Edd?"

Edd looked back at him.

"I hope you know how much I love you."

"I know Eddy." Edd said with a smile.

"No, I mean it. I love you so much. I always have, and I always will." He said holding onto Edd's hand.

"I will always love you too Eddy. Promise me we'll always be together?"

"I promise Edd." He said kissing him on the lips lovingly.

"Good." He said with his famous gap tooth smile.
