Chapter 6- To the cabin
Samantha helped Chloe finish grabbing the machines, got themselves out of the room, and went the opposite way of Bodhi. "Where are we going?" Samantha asked worried. She didn't think they were supposed to head in the opposite direction, and didn't remember seeing it on the map Bodhi had drawn for them.
"Don't worry, Darla said to go this way, said she would meet us around the corner, and bring us to where we need to go.
"I know this way a lot better... and it's faster." Darla said, as they turned the corner. "Follow me."
Samantha groaned, her heart was beating faster the longer she followed Darla and Chloe, and couldn't help but turn her head whenever she thought she heard a noise, or a voice. When they got to an elevator that was for employees only, she began breathing heavier and faster, and her hands and knees were shaking to the point where she thought she was going to faint, or fall.
"I can't feel my feet." Samantha said panting, with a scared look on her face.
Darla snickered "Why? We're just about there, you'll be just fine... this brings us right to the ambulance."
"My legs are shaking so bad, that my knees feel like they're about to give out. I can't get them to stop shaking." she says as the doors opened.
"Trust me, you'll be just fine." Darla giggled, as they got onto the elevator. Samantha didn't care what she was saying, and was for sure they were going to get caught, and continued to shake. She felt once they were away from the hospital, and on their way up to the cabin she would be able to relax.
They quickly walked out, and rushed over to the ambulance. Just as they finished loading the last machine into the ambulance, they heard someone yelling at them.
"What are you girls doing?"
Chloe and Samantha froze as they looked at each other, wide eyed. They're hearts both beating hard and loud, and loud enough to the point where they could hear each other's heart beating. "Fucking knew it." Samantha whispered angrily, and feeling as if she were about to cry.
"Shit." Darla loudly whispered.
Darla turned around, saw that it was Landon, and shoved him hard when he approached her with a grin "You asshole!" You scared the fuck out of us!"
He thought it was funny, knowing they would feel like shitting their pants, but knew they were running out of time before they got caught and stepped into the back of the ambulance "Hurry up and get in..." he says holding onto the door for the girls to get in. He shut the door after the girls got inside, looked for Darla, and yelled "Let's go!"
Darla got into the ambulance, quickly started the vehicle and headed out of the hospital, turning her lights and sirens on. Once she got onto the freeway, she didn't want to bring attention to them, and decided to turn the sirens and lights off.
Bodhi sat there staring at Logan nervous as all hell, hoping she was doing the right thing. She looked at the machines, then over at Landon with a worried expression on her face "Do you think I'm doing the right thing?"
He looked down at Logan, grabbed his medical pen light out of his top pocket, and shined it into his eyes. "Hmm, there's no reaction with his pupils... did you happen to grab his medical paperwork?"
"Yes, I made photocopies of everything, they're in the rental truck."
"I'll take a look at them, and see if there is anything the doctors may have missed."
"Thank you." she said, feeling relieved "I just hope I'm not making a huge mistake... I just couldn't see them ending his life. Especially after what I've witnessed with him."
Darla pulled into an empty parking lot where they had a rental truck waiting for them. They quickly transferred all the medical supplies, machines, and Logan into the back of the truck, turned on the generator, and plugged Logan's machines back in.
Darla took off her mask and clothing, changed into her uniform, and handed her things over to Bodhi "I better bring the ambulance back before they suspect anything more."
"Don't forget to switch the plates back." Landon said, as he took off his mask, and wig.
"Oh, yea." Darla giggled "Wow, what a rush this has been, I've been needing a rush like this in my life."
"A rush it was." Landon grinned.
Bodhi got into the back of the moving van and checked on Logan, she was amazed they pulled it off, and wondered if they would figure it to be her right away. She grabbed Logan's paperwork she copied, and handed it over to Landon "Here's Logan's file, hopefully you'll see something the other doctors ignored."
"I'll look it over... but we better get going, and get him situated." he says, opening the file and flipping through the papers quick. He sat down next to Logan, and looked at Bodhi "Drive carefully, I'll bang on the wall if I need you to stop."
"OK." She wanted to sit with Logan, and wished one of her friends knew the way to the cabin, but knew he would be in good hands with Landon.
Samantha and Chloe chose to sit up front with Bodhi, annoying her with questions the entire drive. She pulled up to the cabin, shut the van off and turned her head towards them "We made it, so quit thinking the worse. There's no way anyone will find us here... unless, someone opens their big mouth. I paid cash, gave them a fake name, we all wore masks, gloves, and once I get him all situated, I'm leaving to go back to the hospital to make it look good for me... don't worry."
"Is Landon staying with Logan?"
"Yes, I'll be back in a couple days. Just so you know, months before Logan came in, I had already taken two weeks off, it just so happens that my vacation starts this week. It'll be perfect."
"Then what? What if he doesn't wake up by that time?" Samantha asked.
"I'll figure it out when that time comes." Bodhi sighed. She had ideas, just wasn't exactly sure what she wanted to do.
Bodhi opened the cabin up, propped the door open, and began setting everything up in the living room. "At least the room is open, large enough for all of this." Chloe said as she stood in one spot, looking around.
"It's perfect, perfect for him, and perfect for me. I needed a vacation anyway, only instead of going out of the country like originally planned when I first took these days off, it's now here. Which is all right too."
Landon wheeled in Logan, and got him situated. He groaned and sighed as he sat down. He leaned his head back while rubbing his eyes, and thought about everything he looked at with Logan's paperwork.
Bodhi got nervous and walked over to Landon "Tell me I didn't make a mistake."
He leaned forward, and looked down at the file in his hand. "If you want me to be totally honest..."
"I do." she says, cutting him off. "I made a mistake, didn't I?" she asked sadly, and suddenly felt brokenhearted even more.
"You didn't let me finish... you didn't make a mistake on what your feelings are about this case, his doctors did. I do have more to look at, but from what I've read, and seen so far, there is potential. Now... I have to admit, I didn't like seeing his eyes not dilate when I shined the light in his eyes, but I have some of my own ideas to try on him, while you're back home."
Bodhi smiled, liking what she heard "So, you'll be fine with him for a couple days?"
"Yes, we'll be just fine."
Bodhi showed her friends around the cabin, and walked them down to the lake "I know it's dark out and hard to see, but I cannot wait to sit outside, go out on the pontoon, and relax. It was so quiet, beautiful, and peaceful when I first came to look at the place." she says as she looked out at the water, with the moon brightly shining down onto the water.
"We're going to have to come up to visit on the weekends, see how everything is going, and maybe go for a boat ride." Chloe smiled.
"I'd like that... but I should probably get you two back home, and rest before I go into work and see all the chaos."
Bodhi checked on Logan before she left, held onto his hand and closed her eyes, praying for him. "Take good care of him." she tells Landon while turning to look at him. "I may not know him as a person, but I sense he's a good person and for some strange reason I feel strongly connected to him..."
Landon walked up behind her and rubbed her shoulders "He will be in good hands, I promise."
Just as Bodhi was leaving, Darla showed up, smiling. Letting them know what she heard over the radio, and that nobody suspects it to be them.
"Well that's a good sign, makes me feel a little better." Bodhi said.
The next morning, Bodhi walked into the hospital, and saw all the law enforcement walking around. She took a deep breath and acted like she always did when she came to work. She walked over to the elevator and stood there, hoping the doors would open before she was stopped by an officer.
Once she got to the fourth floor, the police presence was even heavier, doctors were frantically walking around, and then saw Logan's parents in tears, talking with a couple officers. She started walking, and looked out the corner of her eye as she walked past his parents, only to be stopped by Jenna when she called for her.
She stopped, turned to look at her, and saw Jenna holding her arms out to her "Bodhi... he's gone." she cried.
"What do you mean he's gone?"
"He's gone! Someone kidnapped him last night!"
It broke Bodhi's heart hearing and seeing her upset, and hugged her back tighter. She badly wanted to tell her he was in good hands, and that she was the one who got him out of there, before they were forced to do something so drastic. "I'm sure he'll be found." she said, not sure of what to say. She knew she had to be careful, and to watch everything that'll come out of her mouth.
"His guitar is gone too." she says, crying harder.
"Do they have any idea on who did this?" she asked, wanting to get as much information out of her, knowing she'll unknowingly talk, and fill her in on what she knew so far.
Jenna released her arms from Bodhi, and wiped her eyes. "No, they're looking at the videos right now. I was told that whomever did this, knew the hospital very well, and most likely were casing it for a while..."
Bodhi didn't know what to say, and was then approached by the officers who were talking to his parents. Her breathing became erratic, and heart started to race the moment the officer started asking her questions. She took a deep breath and told herself to calm down before they started to assume it was her.
"Have you noticed anyone different stopping to visit with Logan?"
She slowly shook her head no, and sighed "I haven't noticed anyone new, but I'm also not here 24/7 either."
After further questioning, she needed to excuse herself and headed for the restroom. Walking in, she headed for the sink and turned on the cold water. She held her hands under the water and placed her face in her hands, trying to cool off with the cold water. Another nurse walked in, saw Bodhi splashing her face with water, and walked over to her.
"Wow, can you believe someone had the nerve to kidnap a patient out of here, and not get caught?" she said, looking at her through the mirror.
Bodhi stood back up and waved her hand over the towel dispenser. "I know." she quietly said, wiping her face. "Takes a lot of nerve, doesn't it?"
"They're thinking it was a fan."
"A fan?"
"I guess... from what I overheard, it wasn't just one, there were multiple girls, looking like us."
"Us?" she questioned, swallowing hard.
"Yes, as in nurses." she giggled "I didn't mean as in us."
"Right." she smiled, and giggled in relief. She realized she better get going and looked at herself in the mirror, making sure she didn't smear her mascara "I better get back out there and find out what's going on." She walked toward the door, and stopped when her name was called.
"With all the madness going on right now, it's a good thing you're going on vacation."
"I know, right?" Hopefully she doesn't suspect me she thought to herself. She left and headed back to the chaos. She walked over to the nurse's station, and sat down. Trying to listen in on what the police were talking to her superior about while looking at the computer.
Her superior walked over to the station and leaned over, she could feel him looking at her and looked up. He had a serious look in his eye and discreetly swallowed, nervously "I know you're leaving for vacation in a couple days, and with all that's going on here at the moment, if you would like to have the next couple days off as well, you're more than welcome to."
She felt a smile wanting to creep out, but continued to look at him with a straight face "Are you sure you won't need me?"
"We should be alright, until we get to the bottom of this, I'm thinking about having only a few nurses on duty."
She looked over at the nurse beside her, and gave her a sorry look, knowing she'll be one of the ones staying later, and working harder. "Go have fun, enjoy your vacation." the nurse said with a smile.
"Are you sure? I don't want to leave you hanging."
"Go, you haven't had any time off since you started here... it's owed to you."
Bodhi stood up, smiled, and thanked them both. She wasn't going to argue with them, and would rather be with Logan anyway. She hurried home, packed, and also grabbed her laptop.
On the way up north, she stopped at a store to buy Logan some clothes. All he had was his hospital gown, and knew if he woke up, he wouldn't want to wear that all day, every day. She walked around the men's section, grabbing jeans, shorts, shirts, and sweatshirts, hoping they were the right sizes. Then walked into the undergarment section, and wanted to giggle. She grabbed a package of socks, and couldn't believe she was about to buy men's underwear, and blushed at trying to figure out which kind to buy.
She debated with herself as she looked at the different styles of underwear hanging on the rack, and shrugged her shoulders. Unsure of what he would wear, she grabbed a couple different style of boxers, and boxer briefs, and threw them into the cart if he doesn't like them, oh well, I tried... she muttered.
On her way to the checkout, she remembered he would need shoes, and grabbed a size she thought he would be. She worked with his feet every day, and guessed at his shoe size, praying they fit.
As she approached the register, she hoped she wasn't drawing a lot of attention with all the men's clothes she was buying, and could feel her face burning when she started placing them on the conveyor belt.
"Wow, someone is getting a new wardrobe." The old lady behind the register said, as she started scanning the clothes.
"Yea, my husband's clothes were all starting to get old, and raggedy. So, I started tossing them, now I must replace them... I figured if I got rid of them before he saw me throwing them away, he wouldn't be able to argue with me about it. Now, he'll have new clothes, and nothing to yell about." she giggled.
"Good thinking."
After spending over six hundred dollars on clothes for Logan, the rest of the drive to the cabin she kept telling herself that he better wake up, not wanting to return the clothes.
Bodhi surprised Darla and Landon when she walked in, causing them to jump. Darla's heart stopped, and turned around, saw it was Bodhi walking in, and yelled "Jesus Bodhi! You could have called to warn us you were coming!"
"Sorry, I got excited when they told me to take a couple extra days off. I hurried home, packed, and just wanted to get here, I forgot to call." She placed her bags down, and walked back out to the car, grabbing the other bags.
Darla followed her out, curious as to what it was like going to work, and saw all the bags she needed to bring in "Need any help?"
"Please, I stopped along the way and bought clothes for Logan. Hopefully I didn't waste my money buying them. How's he doing anyway, any changes?"
Darla sighed "Unfortunately, no... but it's only been one night, so don't get too discouraged."
"Oh, I won't... if I have to stay up and talk to him all night to get him to respond to me, I will. I now have all the time in the world to work with him, and nobody to tell me I can't."
While grabbing everything out of the car, Bodhi explained to her what happened at work, and how chaotic it was, also assuring her they had no clue it was them. She hurried inside, set all the bags in her room, then sat down next to Logan. She held his hand and talked to him "I'm here Logan, I want you to know you're safe, and I promise to take good care of you." While looking at him, she could feel her heart growing, and started caressing his face.
Logan was soaring through the clouds, trying to find his way out, until he heard that beautiful voice again, and rested onto a huge fluffy cloud. Turning his head all around, he looked and called out for her, asking where to find her. He then started feeling weird sensations roam throughout him, not knowing what it was, he started flying.
While flying through the clouds, he noticed a change of scenery up ahead, and quickly flew his way there, hoping that was where he needed to go. He saw brightness, heard voices, and noticed a couple doors in the middle of nowhere, stopping and landing when he approached them.
"Look!" Bodhi called out "Watch his finger!"
Hope you all are enjoying the story, and isn't too boring!🤞🤞
Think he'll be awake soon? And if he awakes, how will he react?🤔🤔
