Chapter 5- Breaking him out

"No way, I'm not going to jail." Samantha said, disturbed.

"Why would we go to jail, if we're doing him a favor, and saving his life?"

Chloe could see the look in Bodhi's eyes, she was scared for him, she knew her all too well. When she was determined to do something, she would do it. Especially if there was a reason. "Are you doing this for yourself, or for him?"

Bodhi slammed her hands on the table, not loud, but enough to show that she means business "For him! I'm telling you; I saw the signs. He's going to wake up, they're judging him way too quickly. I work with him every day, all day... whereas the doctors come in for a few minutes, check him out, and look at his charts. They're not seeing what I see."

"They're doctors Bodhi, I think they would know before a nurse." Chloe sighed. "Besides, there's no way you could get him out of there without getting caught."

Darla played with her hair, curling it around her finger as she listened. With her being an EMT, she knew there would be a way to get him into an ambulance, somehow. "It can be done, but we would need to figure out a way to get him out of the room, and get him into an ambulance." she said quietly, staring away from everyone.

Chloe snapped her head toward Darla, and widened her eyes "You can't be serious? You'll get caught! There are cameras all over the hospital."

"I think you both have lost it... or, had too much to drink." Samantha chimed in. As much as she wants to help her out, she didn't want to see her friends get in trouble, and said all she could to try talking her out of it.

"If he wakes up under my care, it'll be a good thing, and I'm sure his family would drop all charges... that is, if there'll be any."

"You know there'll be a lot of charges." Samantha snapped. "I'm out, not doing this at all." she looked at Bodhi and placed her hand on top of hers "Bodhi, I love you, but this is stupid. I don't want anyone to get in trouble, and you know you'll lose your job."

"I love you too, but if I lose my job, then so be it... at least I'll know that I lost it for a good reason, and I helped save a life... saving a life is my job."

"No, not really, that's the doctor's job." Chloe says, cutting her off.

She turned to Chloe with a look of hurt "It's mine too... please support me on this." she begged.

Chloe and Samantha looked at each other, both knowing this was wrong, but also knew Bodhi wouldn't be doing this if there wasn't a good enough reason to. "Fine... I'll help." Chloe says, giving in and sounding unsure about it.

"Let's just hope he does wake up before you do this." Samantha sighed.

Bodhi smiled "So, is that your way of saying you'll commit to this?"

Samantha sighed and looked away "Yes." she said quietly, closing her eyes and thinking she can't believe she's being talked into this.

"Perfect... I'll start figuring things out, and will fill you all in when I've got all the details."

The next few days Bodhi tried figuring out how to get Logan out without getting caught, she scanned the hospital daily, and would discreetly look at the cameras as she walked by them. At night she drew a map of the hospital and made a list of everything she needed to keep him alive while in her care.

She bought a huge handbag purse, and when nobody was near, she would stuff it with supplies: IV bags, medicines, and the other necessities. Each day she became more nervous the more she took supplies from the hospital, and hoped nobody would catch her in the act. She knew in time, the hospital would discover the missing items, and would start asking questions.

It was now a week before the doctors planned to discuss with the family Logan's best interests, and was still trying to figure out where to bring him. She left work and her mind was racing with ideas on what to do. She knew she couldn't bring him to her home in case the authorities decided to pay her a visit. After getting home, she poured herself a glass of wine, sat down at the table, and turned on her laptop.

For hours she searched online for places to bring him, somewhere quiet and out in the sticks where there were no neighbors that could see her every move. She came across a cabin that was in the middle of nowhere, on a private lake, and with neighbors' miles away. Being that it was after nine at night, she wrote the phone number down and figured she would call them in the morning.

The next day, she called the couple that were renting their cabin out for the summer and fall, and after she got off work, she drove the three hours to check the cabin out. She liked that the property was heavily covered in trees, and the cabin was close to the lake where she could sit outside on the porch, and relax. The cabin was nicely designed, and loved that the living room had enough room to fit a hospital bed with the machines. Shit the machines she thought to herself how am I supposed to get those out of the hospital with nobody questioning?

She continued checking the rooms out, then walked down to the lake, stood on the dock and looked around "We will be leaving the pontoon here for use as well." the woman said with a smile "It has been looked at, fixed, and is ready to go. We will leave all our fishing equipment for you to use if you would wish to go fishing."

She turned to her and her husband and smiled "Thank you, I would like that. I haven't fished in years, but wouldn't mind trying it again."

"Will it just be you, or will you be with anyone else?" he curiously asked.

Without thinking she looked at him and smiled as she spoke, surprising herself with what she came up with. She hadn't thought about that question to ever come up, and was glad she didn't stutter while speaking. "My husband... we plan on rekindling our marriage."

Linda smiled and looked at her husband "We've been there before, haven't we?"

"Yes, and this is a perfect place to do that... you won't have anyone around here bothering you." he says, wrapping his arm around his wife.

"Do you rent this out often?" Bodhi asked, looking out at the water.

"No, this is our first time. With our jobs we haven't been able to enjoy any time away, and decided to either sell or rent the place, and chose on renting it out." Michael spoke.

"But... we're open to offers, if someone would like to buy it." Linda hinted.

Bodhi liked the place, felt it was perfect, and in a perfect location. She looked online before coming to check the place out to see what was in the area, and saw there was a hospital about thirty miles away for the just in case. She looked at them, held her hand out and grinned "Sold... I mean, I'll rent it." she said enthusiastically.

They went back into the cabin, where she handed them the cash, they gave her the keys and shook hands again "Enjoy your stay, I know you and your husband will enjoy the peacefulness here." Michael says, smiling.

"We will, thank you."

A few days later, Bodhi walked into Logan's room, looked at his chart from the previous day and sighed nothing's changed she whispered. She walked over to him and was happy to see that they removed his casts, and began exercising his legs. "You know Logan, you really, really, really need to show improvement... I cannot express that enough. The doctors have plans for you, and I would really like to see you wake up, before I do something that will cost me my job." she said to him quietly.

She looked at him sadly, and her heart started to race as she thought about sneaking him out of the hospital. She knew it wasn't going to be easy, and feared getting caught. But was determined to do it. She walked to his side, and began tracing his lips "Can you feel that?" she asked, looking at his hands to see if there was any movement. "Come on Logan, try to wake up for me... please." she begged.

She leaned down to his face, kissed his cheek, and spoke into his ear "Come on, I know you can open your eyes." she spoke desperately, all she wanted was for him to wake up, and to prove to the doctors that they make mistakes, and are too quick on ending a life.

There's that voice again he said to himself, looking all around him. All he saw were clouds, and felt like he was an eagle as he soared through the bright sunny sky filled with clouds. He felt free, but knew he was somewhere he didn't belong. He kept looking for a way out, but all he kept seeing was a never ending sky.

Hearing her voice made him desperately try to find his way to her, he soared and soared until he heard her voice again, and found himself frustrated that he gave up and drifted into a deep sleep. "Dammit Logan, I saw your finger slightly move... I need you to move more than just a finger... give me some sort of sign that you can hear me."

The doctor walked in and over to Logan "Any changes that you've noticed?"

"Yes, he moved his finger a little while ago." she smiled.

"Really!" he said sounding surprised.

"I've mentioned quite a few times that he's been moving his finger, and nobody seems to listen."

"I see..." he says, grabbing Logan's brain scan pictures, and placing them into the light. He looked, and placed his hand over his mouth, studying the pictures. He pointed to the pictures, and had her look "See that there when the pictures were first taken?... and look here, at the ones taken this morning... not much has changed."

"I see a big change; I don't understand where you're seeing there isn't." she argued.

"Yes, there is change... but not enough to say he is doing better."

"But there is change." she said raising her voice. She covered her mouth, wishing she hadn't said anything. She didn't want to give off anything for when she does get him out of the hospital, and point the finger at her right away. "Sorry, I didn't mean to raise my voice, I just see potential. Like I said, I have witnessed him respond to me."

He turned his head toward her, giving her a serious look "Show me." he said harshly, not believing a word she said to him. She walked over to Logan and closed her eyes, hoping to get him to respond to her. All she wanted was to prove it, and stop them from doing what they wanted to do.

She began talking to him while tickling the palm of his hand "Come on Logan, respond to me, don't make me look bad." she begged. "He must have gone back into a deep sleep again, this has been working, as well as if I trace his lips." she said, moving her finger to his bottom lip, and softly slid her finger from the one corner of his mouth, to the other corner. "Don't make me look like a liar, Logan..."

"I've seen enough." he said impatiently. "It's unfortunate, it really is... but this is reality." He shined his light in Logan's eyes, looking at his pupils, and when nothing changed, he ended his check up with him, and crossed his arms while he looked at him, then over to her. "You're sure you saw him move, and not just imagining it?"

She wanted to lash out at the doctor, she couldn't believe he was talking that way, that it had her nerves to the point where she was shaking. "I'm positive."

"His pupils didn't even move with the light... his parents will be here in the morning to discuss his fate. If you see any changes with him, I would like to know immediately."

"Will do."

After the doctor left the room, she stood there stiff as a board for about a minute, then it hit her and ran over to Logan, shaking him "Wake up, wake up, wake up." she repeated over and over. The look of fear crossed her face, the reality of the stunt she was about to pull off was really sinking in, and had to run out of the room to catch a breather.

She walked fast down the hallway, ignoring all who tried stopping her to talk. She finally got to the elevator and hit the button multiple times until it opened, stepped inside, and hit the close button until it closed. She stood against the wall, heavily breathing, and telling herself to calm down.

She finally reached outside, and walked away from the building. She pulled her phone put of her pocket and called Darla, filling her in on what the doctor said and stressed they needed to do this sooner than the original plan of this coming Friday.

Darla told her what she had planned, that gave Bodhi a smile, and a sense of relief. "You're the best... thank you." she tells Darla. She looked up to the sky with a smile, thanking the Lord. Thanking him for stepping in, and helping her. "I know it's not done yet, but I thank you anyway."

Going back into Logan's room, she was shocked to see his parents sitting next to his side, his mom begging him to let her know he heard her.

"Hello."

Jenna turned head, and Bodhi noticed that her eyes were puffy, her face red as could be, and the light shining just right on her cheeks to show she had been crying. "Bodhi..." she sounded relieved to see her, but could tell in the sound of her voice, she was hurting.

"Oh Jenna... I'm so sorry." she says, approaching her. "Have you talked with the doctor yet?" she asked curiously, hoping they haven't.

"He was just in here, from the way it sounded, it wasn't good. And, I have a feeling what is going to be discussed tomorrow."

"If you don't want to sign the papers, then don't. He's your son, and you know what his best interest would be. Just please don't let anyone talk you into doing anything you don't want to do."

Jenna turned around, and let out a heavy sigh. She didn't know what to do, and was torn. She placed his guitar on her lap, and looked at it. Remembering when she and Derrick gave it to him for Christmas. "I've been meaning to ask, this guitar showed up recently. Do you have any idea who brought it here?"

"No, sorry I don't. But I did notice that it showed up after Logan's friends were here, so possibly one of them?" She walked around the other side of Logan, and began moving her finger around the underside of his hands, trying to tickle him, while looking at the guitar. "I've been talking to him, begging for him to open his eyes, telling him that I'd like to hear him sing."

Jenna smiled "He can sing... this guitar we gave him for Christmas when he was eight years old, he taught himself how to play with this guitar." she smiled, and looked over at him "He also taught himself how to sing, and play piano..."

Derrick chuckled "If Jimmy Hendrix were alive, and if there were a competition on playing guitar, my son would outplay him and win... he's that damn good."

Bodhi giggled, and smiled while looking down at Logan. She knew she had to get him out of there immediately and knew tonight was the night, that it was all going to happen.

"Just remember what I said, don't let anyone talk you into signing those papers." She wanted to throw them off, and not let on she had a plan. She looked at her with hopes she will forgive her for what she was about to do, and wished she could tell her what she was about to do.

Later that night, Bodhi, Samantha, Darla, and Chloe got themselves ready. They wore masks they had specially ordered and designed, and glued to their face. They also wore a wig, and dressed themselves as nurses, wearing fake name tags.

After getting ready, they met in Bodhi's living room, showing themselves off. "Wow... nobody will ever know." Samantha said in amazement.

"Don't forget to put your gloves on." Bodhi instructed, while putting hers on. She looked at Darla and smiled "He's going to be there, right?"

"Who?"

"A friend of mine, who in fact is a doctor from Los Angeles... don't worry, he changed his look also." Darla said, excited to do something that will finally get her adrenalin going.

"What's he going to do?"

"Go in there, acting like his doctor, and make it so that we can get him out of there easier. He'll also be a lookout, blocking any nurse, or doctor going our way."

"How is that?" Chloe asked.

"Distracting them, asking questions, or by talking with them about a patient... he somehow was able to change the doctors on that floor, and place them in a different area."

Darla's phone rang, it was her friend letting her know he was in the hospital, and was ready for them. Telling her to hurry, that he wasn't sure how long it will take until someone realizes he's an imposter.

Along the way the to the hospital, the girls studied the map, went over all the details, and went over what to say if they happened to be stopped by someone.

Bodhi quickly went into the hospital and up to the fourth floor, she saw Darla's friend talking with a nurse, snuck past them, and headed into Logan's room. She grabbed his guitar and notebook, placed it on top of him, and covered him with a blanket. She then jumped and turned around quickly when she heard the door open, holding her hand over her heart. "Fuck, you scared the shit out of me."

Chloe entered the room, unplugged his machines and urged her to hurry, and get him out of there. "Hurry up, Landon said we have five minutes."

Hope you enjoyed the chapter!🤞🤞🤞
