Chapter 1

(Chapters 1-17 are fairly short. I'll probably rewrite them someday.)

Eclipsed 1: The Quake

Blossom's POV

I was playing ball with my best friend, a Flareon named Ember. We had both just evolved from Eevees, and I was an Espeon.

"C'mon!" Ember shouted before head butting a rubber ball we had found abandoned in the forest a few days ago when we were still unevolved.

I knocked it back with my tail. "Catch!"

It hit her smack in the face. "We don't have thumbs, remember?!"

"Oh. Right."

Ember grinned and bounced it in the air. When it was about to hit the ground again, she hit it with her foreleg and it bounced quickly towards me, just barely soaring above my head. I groaned and started to walk in the forest.

"Just use psychic!" The Flareon called.

"Dunno where it is!" I shouted back and looked around. I walked up to the red ball and noticed something peculiar. It was starting to tremble. I peered closer and all the birds took flight.

"Blossom? What's going on?!" I heard Ember ask, a note of fear in her voice.

"I don't know!" I levitated the ball and prepared to throw it at a larger Pokémon if one appeared. Instead, the ground in between me and my best friend began to split. "Ember!" I shouted.

"Just jump!" She called as it grew wider.

I stared at her in pure horror.

"Don't worry, I'll get you if you fall!"

I took a deep breath and ran toward the opening.

"Blossom! Wait!" Ember cried, but it was too late.

At the last second, one of my feet slipped and only my front ones were able to grab on the edge of the other side, and it was beginning to crumble.

Ember ran to me as fast as she could, but she tripped over a twig. My friend let out a yelp as she fell on her foreleg.

I glanced down and immediately wished I hadn't. It would be a long fall. I gulped and looked at Ember. She had gotten up as soon as she could but couldn't make up for the lost time.

My paws began to slip and I closed my eyes. I concentrated on something nice, an image to take with me. I expected to feel a falling sensation but it never came. I expected the hard ground but it never came. The only thing I felt was my scruff rising.

I opened my eyes and found a young Umbreon hoisting me out of the crack and setting me down. "You okay there?" he asked with kind eyes.

"Y-yes. I'm fine. Thanks." I looked around before Ember tackled me.

"Blossom! Oh my gosh, I thought you were gone!" Ember sighed.

The Umbreon cleared his throat. "I think we should take cover somewhere nearby."

I nodded. "My parent's house isn't far."

We walked to the small cottage where Ember and I had grown up. She had been found as a little pup at our doorstep and my parents had taken her in.

"It's just around this bend." I walked down the path and when I rounded the corner, I stopped with pure terror and gasped.

Ember ran into me and the Umbreon her. "Wha-" She peered around me and stopped mid-sentence.

The Umbreon knew better than to ask.

I watched in horror as my home burned to the ground.
