MIRA ANTONOVA WAS SUNLIGHT MADE FLESH LONG BEFORE HER FATHER EXPERIMENTED ON HER. Mira was birdsong in the morning, dewdrops on seas of grass, the warmth a familiar scent, the smile of a loved one. Mira was hope. Then her father, maddened by failure after failure of his experiments sees her - his hope - as his only answer. He subjects his daughter to his experiment - Project H.A.L.O, which stands for Harnessed Auric Light Operation. Mira Antonova is the sole survivor of the project, and this lays out her life for the next 10 years. She is her father's only test subject, and he obsesses over trying to make her the perfect being, able to harness the power of the sun.

EXCEPT, MIRA ANTONOVA DOES NOT COME OUT THE OTHER SIDE BORN INTO A WEAPON. In fact, her powers are more focused on radiant healing, hard-light temporary constructions and bursts of intense light. She is not a born weapon, but her father and his minions push to make her into one. Mira is subjected to torture, combat drills and testing of her power limits. She does not see any sunlight that is not made by her own hand for over 10 years.

THE WINTER SOLDIER WAS A WHISPER AMONGST HER FATHER'S COLLEAGUES. Mira had heard what sounded like a ghost story- a man in a mask with a metal arm who would come for you and your family at night, murdering you silently in your bed. Then one day he came, and the stories were true. Awoken from deep, icy sleep and forced to murder the Antonov lab workers in the Carpathian mountain range that crossed into Poland. The Winter Soldier did not escape unscathed and when he turned his gun on 18 year old Mira Antonova she reached out her hand. Her powers muted, but not completely stopped by her father's shackles, she healed him with her light. The Winter Soldier did not accomplish his mission as he should have that day, letting the girl live and even freeing her from her restraints. He threw his jacket around her shoulders to warm her and then he left. Mira never forgot his kindness, and he never forgot hers.

THE WORLD KEPT TURNING, MIRA KEPT MOVING. It was easy for Mira to hide, she had hidden all her life. She used her powers only when necessary- mostly to help people. Small healing gestures, crafting little jumping frogs made of light or sheep that bounced around a moon for children and occasionally, she used her blinding light to stun people who would do harm upon her or others. Word got around about a golden girl in Eastern Europe who could manipulate light. People spoke of an angel. Eventually, she earned a nickname- aureola - halo. It was fitting really, after all, it was the name of her father's project.

VALENTINA ALLEGRA DE FONTAINE HAD FOUND THE WORK OF DR ANTONOV AND WAS INSPIRED. The power of the sun forged into a human body? Remarkable. It wasn't long before she got other ideas of what they could do with a humans body and before long Project Sentry was in motion. All they had to do was capture Mira Antonova, the sole survivor of the Winter Soldier onslaught. It didn't take long, after all, Mira was trained in hand to hand combat and knew her way around her powers pretty well- but she wasn't clued up on looking out for spies. Using her father's power diminishing shackles, Valentina captured Mira and forced her back into a life she thought she'd escaped, thought she'd survived. Back to being a test subject.
