Accidents Happen

*Frisk's POV*

The first part of the plan worked perfectly once we had gotten into the vents.

At least, for Leah and I, it had worked perfectly.

G on the other hand, wasn't as lucky, and his fortune seemed to falter.

Leah, with her lean figure and her agility for small places, fit easily into the metal square that stretched out for what looked like forever.

Me, being small as it was, also cradled easily inside, with the slight feeling of being suffocated and squeezed only bugging me a little bit.

Though it always made me heave for breath a bit when I thought of how it was impossible to turn back around, and go back the way I came.

Trying not to think about that, I entered the vent with determination.

G, unfortunately, was too big to fit inside the little square.

His shoulders stopped right at the edges, and he would have to crumble himself into a ball to fit in, which I doubted would get him anywhere if he tried moving like that.

This was our problem, and I felt my stomach sink as I tried to think of what we would do now.

"I'm not fitting," G announced once Leah and I were already inside, Leah ahead since she knew the vents better then the casual grounds.

"You're what?" Leah called back, turning her head to peek behind us, her hair falling into her face making her action useless anyways.

"I said I'm not fitting!" G answered, struggling to force his body inside after three failures, "Except I ain't complaining. I still have a good look at the goodie-goodie's ass."

Growling at his comment, I kicked my leg back and hit him in what felt like the chest, and I was satisfied to hear him grunt and fall back from the vent, his backside hitting the ground only a second after.

With a smile on my face, I crawled in a bit more just in case he was trying to peek in again.

It made my cheeks tint red and my body suddenly feel exposed, like this whole time he was just watching my backside.

When he chuckled, I felt myself roll my eyes.

Especially when he said under his breath, "Worth it."

Sighing, Leah took a moment to think before she asked, "Maybe you can sneak out normally, if you're good at it."

"I am good at it," G confirmed sharply, his shuffling indicating he was standing up and dusting himself off, "And if that's the case then why don't we all just sneak out, instead of using the vents?"

Taking my turn to answer, I said, "Because it will take too long, and the chances of getting caught will be higher. You'll have to meet us by the stairs, unless you have a better idea of getting into the vent?"

Grumbling was my answer, and there was more satisfaction to his annoyance.

No, no I shouldn't be enjoying any of his company.

I shouldn't be like this around him.

"Fine," He said, interrupting my thoughts, "I'll try and get to the stairs on my own, and meet you there."

Hearing his footsteps turn away, I felt slight relaxation in the fact that he could no longer see my behind.

Then I felt the dread pass through me as I realized it would just be Leah and I in the vents.

No G for protection.

And who truly knows if Leah was good or not.

I felt as if any moment she would change, and suddenly try to get me killed.

I felt as if G's order to her would mean nothing eventually, and she would go back on her word to help me.

Asriel wouldn't be that mad at her if she managed to turn me in.

In fact, I'd expect him to be pleased with her, and probably put her back in command.

It he did, there would be no other chance for my escape, and I'd be Asriel's princess.

The thought dropped my face into a glare at Leah who began crawling in front of me, her legs shuffling quietly against the metal.

Doing the same, knowing that I was safer then if she was behind me, I kept my narrowed eyes down at the metal beneath me, trying to keep the good Leah in my head as long as I was working with her.

When the vent behind us closed up, I knew G hadn't left just yet, and I wondered for a moment if he was afraid.

That's when I had to hold back a chuckle at the thought of G being afraid of anything.

Though I was grateful for the security, and I felt better knowing nothing could be crawling after me from behind.

Especially since I couldn't turn around, or go back, trapped moving forward after Leah who moved slowly and carefully. Oh why couldn't she move just a bit faster... Just a little faster!

Feeling trapped and sick, the feeling of my hands that pressed against the bare metal seemed like a dream, something that wasn't real.

The metal was smooth, and it was cold. It was chopped into sealed segments that would bump against my hand once in a while. Though it was never a bother, and it kept my mind distracted from the suffocation.

It also kept me distracted from the thought that continued to tickle my mind.

'What if Leah is leading us the wrong way? Or if she gets lost? Or if we end up getting trapped here forever?'

Shivering, I suddenly felt a wave of cold wash over me, and I regretted leaving my shawl back in the room on the toilet paper rolls.

"Looks like they turned on the cooler," Leah observed, shivering herself as she continued.

As I continued, feeling the metal turn colder as the air forced it's way through the vents, I began to feel grateful they didn't turn on the heater.

Long minutes passed, and they felt like drowning hours.

Were the vents getting smaller?

They sure were getting colder, and I felt my body shiver with cold while my hands continued to pull me through, the metal cold against my palms.

Leah, who was shivering and shaking as well, hadn't said a word to me, or even looked back to see if I was there.

I couldn't tell if that was a good sign or not.

Finally, as I was thinking about it, she suddenly said, "You're oblivious."

The words caught me by shock, and my movement hesitated for a moment.

Not knowing exactly what she meant by the words, I continued moving and asked softly, "I don't understand..."

"You're oblivious. Nothing more," Leah said, a shrug in her voice as she moved forward through the vents.

Suddenly a bit annoyed, I narrowed my eyes once again, and felt the bad feeling about her come over me again.

"Oblivious to... What?"

"To G."

Before she had any time to elaborate, or answer the questions that swarmed my tongue, there was a sound from outside the metal.

The vents were at ground level, and what we were crawling in was behind the wall that lead to the halls of the Castle, meaning that if we were to be heard by anyone out there, we'd be caught and turned in.

And everything would be over.

Though accidents tend to happen, and my heart stopped along with my movement when I heard a voice say, "... You hear that?"

Leah stopped as well, and her body turned stiff with suspense.

Each of us stared at the metal to our right from where the voices came from, and we held our breath as if any sound would be heard.

What terrified me, is that we didn't know what sound could be heard from the vents, which meant that even a small breath could alert everyone outside.

Of course, the thought was impossible, except at the time I had thought it was the most likely situation, and I was afraid to breathe.

"What do you mean?" Asked another voice, footsteps suddenly stopping.

"Voices... I thought I heard voices..." Said the first voice, a shuffle suddenly heard from outside.

"You're hearing things. The Prince wouldn't appreciate it if you are making jokes like that."

"No I mean it! I heard something!"

"It's just the vents... We turned on the cooler, it's just the cold air flow."

For once I felt glad that the cold was flowing, bouncing around the metal with slight ruckus.

Though inside the vents it felt silent, and we continued to stay stiff while we listened to the voices.

"You're right," The first voice said, followed by some footsteps.

"Of course I am, now lets just stick to our job, and find the Princess."

"And if we're lucky, G."

Soon the voices and footsteps faded off, and we paused for a moment before letting out a slow breath, then continuing to move forward.

Even with the shock and the pounding of my heart from the people outside, my mind still clung to Leah's statement, and the curiosity was itching at me.

Could she mean bad intentions?

That seemed like the more likely option, and the shivers that ran down my spine weren't just from the cold.

"What were you saying?" I whispered, feeling frightened with each word that left my lips.

"Don't know what you mean," Leah answered, still crawling as quietly and carefully as she could, the cold air rushing past her and chilling the metal.

Knowing she was only dodging the question, I followed behind her briskly, narrowing my eyes again and keeping myself alert to what she could do.

She could kick back and hit me, probably so hard I'd pass out.

Then what would she do?

Just leave me in the vents to freeze or burn?

Or until someone finds me?

Trying to understand what she could be thinking was a puzzle I didn't truly feel like solving, even if it was life or death.

Yet I continued to push her on the question.

"I mean when you called me oblivious. You didn't continue," I said, keeping my voice level and calm, as if we were having a normal conversation.

I kept my curiosity and eagerness down as much as I could, though I felt as if it dripped out on a few words.

Without needing to shrug, I knew she would have done it anyway, and she continued, "Nothing to continue."

Now she was bothering me, and I gulped down my growl that was trying to crawl it's way up my throat.

She had said I was oblivious to G, and I thought of his twisted mind and realized she was right.

But the way she had said the words meant that she was hiding something, something I didn't know about.

It made me feel stupid and pathetic not knowing something, so once again, I pushed on the question.

"How am I oblivious to G?"

Instead of answering straight, or even messy, Leah whispered sharply, "Look Frisk, do you really want someone to catch us just because you're asking a question you're oblivious to?"

I stayed silent and my face wore blank emotion.

G came into mind for a moment, and I wondered if he was making it to the stairs.

I wondered if we were making it to the stairs.

"That's what I thought," With her last sentence, Leah continued without glancing back, and there was a sudden light ahead.

The light was coming from our right, and I noticed the familiar line pattern that looked like bars sideways.

Bars like when I was in prison with G, that selfish bastard.

Saying that in my head made me feel better, and I continued to say it over and over.

'Selfish bastard, selfish bastard, selfish bastard.'

It almost made me giggle, yet it was caught in my throat when suddenly we got to the light, and I realized it was a vent opening.

The light was shining in through the space that seemed revealing, and I felt nervous to cross the lines that patterned the metal before me.

Outside there could be guards, or people just waiting for the slightest movement in the vents, just so they can have a chance to catch us.

Leah had passed over it easily, and I gulped as I watched her crawl ahead of me, her figure beginning to disappear in the darkness.

"Wait-" I whispered, suddenly regretting my sound when I once again realized there was an opening to the vent, and someone could hear me much better now.

Not only that, but when my eyes took a peek outside the vent and into the long hallway, I heard a familiar sound of boots, and the familiar swishing cloak that was draped over the familiar figure that made my heart sting and my eyes widen.

Asriel was walking down the hallway towards me, and I sucked in my breath as if he could see me through the lines, although I knew he couldn't unless he was peering in.

Seeing him so close, seeing him walking towards me made me panic, and I didn't dare move now that I knew he could see me at any second, or hear any of my movements.

I was terrified.

Luckily, Leah had stopped, and she was waiting.

Unlucky part was that she whispered back quite loudly, "What?"

My heart skipped a beat, and I felt it stop suddenly as I held my breath, not willing to make any sound to explain what was happening.

The Prince stopped dead in his tracks, only a few feet away from the opening.

Leah paused, and she didn't say another word which meant that she knew I was seeing something, and she knew that we were in danger.

Perhaps she heard the Prince stop moving, and she realized someone was out there.

Except it may have been too late.

And she had no knowledge of who it really was.

When my eyes moved back to Asriel, I saw his stone hard face, and his striking eyes that were filled with furious rage.

His anger was frightening, and his fists were clenched while his body was tense and edged, furious and vexed.

Though his eyes...

Oh his terrifying eyes that were aching in anger, aching in desperate want.

Want for me.

Want for the Peace Plan.

He ached for it, lusted for it, and it took all my strength to keep from trembling.

Fear of him hearing us filled my blood, and it felt colder then the air that was rushing through the vents.

When his eyes slowly began to move down to the vents, my heart began to pound.

I was afraid he could probably hear it.

That's when suddenly a Crew member appeared behind him and cleared his throat, making Asriel jolt from shock.

The shock and made Asriel whip around and smack the guard, yelling, "How dare you sneak up on me! I should have you killed!"

The guard's hand shot to his cheek, and he held it as he quickly explained, "I-I was just coming to ask what you expect us to do."

The guards words didn't help the situation, and I could hear the fury that strained Asriel's voice, making him sound brutal and terrifying, yet still with the slick Prince voice he had.

"I'll give you three seconds to explain what you had just said before I shoot you right here in the hall," He snarled, his voice painfully serious.

Taking his chance, the member quickly sprung, "We've searched everywhere for the Princess, and we can't find her anywhere! We've found her shawl inside a supply closet, but there is nothing else! It's like she... Disappeared!"

It was longer then three seconds, but Asriel seemed to be interested in what he was saying by the time his count was over.

Leah was now listening, realizing the Prince was to the right of her.

At that moment I had prayed that all the good in Leah was true.

Asriel stared at the Crew member, and I could see his fist clenching then unclenching over and over with his rage.

Then, with a very tense and soft voice, he growled, "I don't care if you tear apart this entire building..."

When he continued, his voice was loud and forceful, more like an animal than a Prince.

"I want you to FIND HER!"

The guard's fear was clear to see, and as he saluted then bowed, he rushed back down the hall to probably spread the news.

Asriel was breathing heavy, and I couldn't tell if it was from stress or anger.

With a sharp turn, and a swishing cloak, he continued down the hallway and passed the vent opening without a second glance.

For a moment I had thought I'd seen G's glare in the shadows before it disappeared, and I wondered if he had seen what was happening.

Then, without hesitation, I followed Leah through the vents, and passed the opening.
